I’ve been so excited for this video! I grew up in coastal Maine about 15 miles from Boothbay Harbor so I knew exactly where you were as you were posting photos before you mentioned the location. The natural scenery and the colorful “whimsical” nature of some of the buildings are a landscape painter’s dream.

Sandi, I started painting this spring after I found your KZbin videos when looking for a relaxing distraction from caring for my mother during a long illness. Tonight I dropped off two pieces for my first exhibition, and even though I completely botched the wiring to hang them, it all worked out. You would have laughed to see it! So this Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for you, Sandi, for being an inspiration, teacher, and guide to so many people, and for opening a door of curiosity that led me to a new part of my life that I really enjoy. Very happy holidays to you and Grady-and come back to New England soon! It’s perfect painting weather up here in the spring.

In regards to anchoring your easel. Tie sandbags to the feet of table. It weighs it down and holds it in place.

Maine is so beautiful! i love the red buildings against the water and sky. I think I am definitely a fair weather painter, I don't mind. a bit of cold, but the wind and rain - forget about it! Not sure if you went to the Lake District when you came to England, but I think you would really enjoy painting the landscape and little houses :)

Was in Boothbay Harbor in 2019. There was a group doing watercolor. My friend(who doesn’t paint) still talks about loving seeing that. I also wasn’t painting watercolor as much as I do now. Maybe a trips needed.

Sandbag that easel! 😅 You can fill with water too. I used to do event photography and had reflector stands that would try to sail away. Look up "light stand counterweight" or "stand sandbag" but you could probably get something similar to work from camping gear as well. Loved your trip photos and paintings! Those colors were epic!

Great vid as always sweetpea. Those light easels are tricky. What about those weighted balloon holders for party tables on each leg? Dunno if that would help or not. You can always put balloons on them at the same time! Haha! Those people who don't say anything when they come over, do NOT get a balloon.

Have you heard of Monhegan Island, Sandi? It's an island a little off the coast in that area of Maine, and I haven't been back in almost 20 years now, but it has a reputation as a bit of a haven for artists! I think you can even get some residencies or grants to stay there and paint for a period of time! It can be pretty touristy in the summer though, which is just about the only season to go, since it does get so cold outside of the summer months. I recommend at least doing a day trip there sometime, you could even probably do that while staying in Boothbay Harbor!

Oh my goodness! Boothbay Harbor is gorgeous! But, there is another place that your eyeballs would fall out over, and, it is called Eastport, Me! It is so far up there that you can literally see Canada across the way! Check it out, as, it is a painters dream place, as well as the most charming, forgotten, left as is kind of dream place. If you end up visiting ever, please let me know how you liked it. I would love to hear. Eastport is for any creative soul, whether it be a fine artist, musician, writer, dancer, or just dreamer. It is a place that fills you with silence, inspiration and magic.

Outdoor painting does have it's challenges. Easels flying, paintings in the dirt - even monet and Van Gogh have things embedded in there outdoor paintings. My worse experience was after having a quick lunch break I returned to find a snake on my easel wrapped around the painting. I just waited him out. You do look like a local. I have never figured out how to handle visitors who just come by.

You just turned 50?! I have been trying to figure out your age for quite some time. You look like you're in your low 40s but you have mentioned growing up in the 80s so I couldn't quite place you and suspected you might be older than you appear. Happy 50th! (I am 56). I live in NY and have family in New England. My mother's mom was born in Orono Maine and we used to vacation in Kennebunkport in the summer sometimes. These are beautiful pictures..... I would love to travel to Boothbay Harbor on my next visit there. The scenery was beautiful.... this is one of my favorite videos of yours.....
