The Dreamcast was ahead of its time and I'm happy to have been an early adopter pre-ordering it for launch day and picking it up on 9/9/1999. I had a blast but the games I had the most memorable fun with are accessible elsewhere with Sega reselling their games on Steam as well as ports like JSRF on the Original Xbox.

As a new subscriber, I just have to say it's impressive how much you have improved in your presentation since these older videos. These are still good, don't get me wrong, but your newer videos are on another level. I would add Armada to the list. Great 4 player co-op, top down shooter with Asteroids-like control, a massive universe and RPG elements. I remember trying to play D2 as a kid, I got a copy off of ebay sometime around 2001 or 2002, but the first disc was scratched and it stopped working 30 minutes in. Maybe it's time I experience that game.

Sega Dreamcast lasted from September 9, 1999 to February 14, 2002. The System was Discontinued in January 2001 and were all sold out by March 2001 but games for it kept getting released until February 14, 2002. So that's about 2 years and 5 months lifespan in North America. I downloaded Tokyo Xtreme Racer off the internet and loved it so much that I ended up buying TXR Zero, TXR3, and TXR Drift for the PS2. The car customizations, car roster, and real-life Japanese highways are what make this game great. But the gameplay ultimately becomes broken as later opponents have cars so powerful that the only way to win is to aggressively block them and even force them to crash.

I'm not necessarily sure if this would count as a hidden gem, but it never gets talked about so I consider it one, but I really recommend NFL Blitz 2000. It's one of the best party games on the Dreamcast. I know it's a sports game, but trust me it is one of the most fun times you'll have. There's even a really cool feature in the Dreamcast version of the game where you can select your plays from it and hide it from other players. The other console versions try it too, but not as well as the Dreamcast version. That alone makes the Dreamcast version of NFL Blitz 2000 a must own in my opinion. You will have a good time.

Games I like that are hidden gems.. It's hard to know what counts though as hidden and some of these are not super great also, but the DC library isn't huge if were honest. So been a bit loose with the terms hidden and gem. - Silver -- I love pre-rendered background games. - The Nomad Soul -- It can be hard to know where to go on this but it's good still. - The Ring -- have to import this if your in Europe. It's got a gripping story and it's different from the film. - Deep Fighter -- Has the actor from Little Britain in it. I have no idea why this isn't more popular. - Dragon Riders -- Dreamcast is crap for load times and this is a example of that but it's still a great game if you can put up with it - Dragons Blood -- Very hard but it's really fun. I couldn't get very far on this one though it's too hard. - Record of Lodoss War -- Graphics are very dark on this but it's good still - Chicken Run -- Metal Gear Chicken... - Soldier of Fortune -- Load times from hell again but it's very very good besides. - Speed Devils -- Great tracks and single player campaign. - Carrier -- Try look past the horrible graphics on this one. - Hidden and Dangerous -- The controls take a lot of work to learn. Considering the limited buttons on Dreamcast, they did good. FPS takes a nose dive at times too. But I adore this game. - Spec Ops 2 -- I don't recommend this, but it's a guilty pleasure for me - Sword of the Berserk -- This has a great story but a little difficult - Shenmue 2 -- gonna include this because you didn't get it in the states so I count it as hidden. Shenmue games also have bad load times but it's so good no one would care. - Slave Zero -- It's nothing special but If like me and you love the DC and you have played all the great Dreamcast games with it's limited library then it's worth a go. - Fur Fighters -- PS2 version has flatter different textures and fat black edges as they turned it into a cell shaded game, so some might prefer the DC version.

The N64 version of Shadowman was really quite the accomplishment on Acclaim's and Iguana's part being to fit the ENTIRE PC game onto a cartridge with almost EVERYTHING in tact. Trivia Note: Shadowman for N64 used the same cartridge size the Zelda games, the Mario Party N64 games, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Tooie, Rayman 2: The Great Escape, 007: The World is not Enough, Pokemon Stadium 1, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Starwars Battle of Naboo/Starwars Episode 1 racers, Jet Force Gemini, Pokemon Puzzel League, Turok 2 & 3, and I think there's a few more I might've missed. All n' all, the cartridge size used for ALL the games I mentioned above used a 256 megabit (32 megabyte) cartridge! Which was the largest cartridge capacity at the time for the N64. Learn something new everyday.

I like this totally, also the dream cast label that you used on the titles was a nice touch. The skateboarding game looks like they stole the outfits from power rangers. Also the last fighting game had a Tron deadly disk thing going on there

+johnsobery Yeah, back when developers were trying crazy shit, unlike today. lol

Lets see speed devils , Powerstone 2 , Bangi o , and MDK 2. I loved my dreamcast first console I bought with my own money I have an incredible collection. The 4 mentioned up there , Sonic adventure 1 and 2 which were kinda fun at the time but to me dont stand the test of time. Then Ecco defender of the future some hated it I loved it.Marvel vs Capcom 2 , Sega rally 2 , Mortal Kombat gold , Shenmue , Skies of Arcadia and Crazy Taxi. I gotta say when I mention powerstone most people have no clue what im talking about as it is fun.I see it on list but man I wish capcom would make a part 3 so bad. Its kinda like smash bros , a beat em up and just straight fighting game in one.Please Capcom make another one .

Love the hidden gems. Maybe original Xbox. The toy game is a lot like Toy Story. Wasn't the kids name in Toy Story Andy too? Can't quite remember.

Can you believe they had a completely unbeatable copy protection on the Saturn, and they just straight up didn't use it? Only very recently has the Saturn been cracked without a hardware mod and you still need a piece of hardware (a cart in the back cart slot). Since the Dreamcast didn't have a cart slot, they could have just reused what they had and piracy would have been completely dead. God damn it Sega!
@RGT858 жыл бұрын
+OAIHY RIGHT? Shows how the Dreamcast was a bit rushed.
@EatingCtrlV8 жыл бұрын
RetroGamingTube 85 Yup, rushed and amazing. It's too bad Sega fell from the heights it once reached. Sonic Team, the Phantasy Star Team, Sonic Software Planning (Camelot). These developers are legendary, they didn't just make a couple games, they defined genres and taught other developers how to improve their projects by example. Where would we be without Shining Force? Would we have Final Fantasy Tactics in the same form? I doubt it. The hardware was amazing too. The Saturn is gods gift to a 2D fighter fan, and I'm with you man, I stand by the Dreamcast as being one of the best consoles ever made. Great video man. Keep dreaming.

If you had to rate all successful and failed consoles on a chart. Tiger GameCom being say -15 and Sony PlayStation 2 being 12 (for example), Dreamcast would be on the 0 mark maybe on the 1 mark (heck maybe even a 2)? Dreamcast was classed as a failure but media would class it as probably the most popular failed console. And I love it to this day!! 👌 Coming from a hardcore Dreamcast fan, and I personally believe it shouldn’t have failed, as it did so much right (ignoring the flaws like piracy). Just such a shame the market was not like what it was today where it was more a war of sales, I know it still is but back then it was even more serious.
