I even can put concord, since you insert the last guardian, tearaway unfolded, the order 1886, alienation, matterfall,knack,infamous and Killzone, etc, examples that making exclusives are not guaranteed success. With covid, wars, etc, we have to remenber that they had to support PS4 a lot like they never did in past generations. Another great difference is that doing AAA games now cost much more than in 2013-2017, and even so, they were able to bring a lot of games. I think we are spoiled and often don´t see that is not that easy to bring winners gamers to the front.

Casual gamers play Nintendo games much more than Playstation games, Casual gamers almost never play bigger 70 to 100 hour games or live service games because they don't have time for that, they play 20 to 40 hours long games and multiplayer games like Mario Kart, Smash bros and mario party. Nintendo makes those types of games much more often than most game companies while at the same time releasing 2 or 3 bigger games every year for the hardcore gamers. I think the big issue is the cost of the games. When released they are so expensive and people do not have unlimited resources to buy them. By the time these games are at a reasonable price most people have lost interest or are just waiting for it to come out on PlayStation plus. Helldivers 2 is a perfect example of this, when the game was fresh people could afford this game as it was reasonably priced. Astro bot appears to be a “kids” game, regardless of the reality of that people do not want to be spending that much money on uncertainty

The way I see it is Sony doesn't need to release a game every week or month, but give Sony PS5 gamers games that have been released on previous consoles like the PS3, natively, without no online subscription service, games that are stuck on the PS3 bring them to PS5 on physical media and upscale them for 4K displays, Sony's PlayStation has such a rich backlog of games and franchises that some modern gamers are unaware of, that should fill out the time before waiting for the next PlayStation exclusive and it makes gamers come back to the PS5 again and again without it feeling like there are PS5 exclusive droughts.

Here is the solution since the PS5 Pro is now a PC: market to PC gamers. 1) Make the PS5 Pro cheaper and drop it down to $549 base and PS5 slim digital $299. We don't care about the disc or stand. 2) Make the PS5 able to play all Steam, Epic, and EA games. 3) Make the PS5 backwards compatible to PS1 for the console gamers so they won't feel being sold out. 4) Make all the Playstation exclusive you want and you'll have both console gamers and PC gamers buying it. 5) And last, enjoy being top dog again because you stopped screwing your console gamers and gained new business from PC gamers.

Astro’s playroom was a free download so this is the first time that Astro Bot has sold at a premium price of £60 in the UK. Also keep in mind the game has been out for 2 months and Ghost of Tsushima has been out for four years and has had multiple releases across different platforms and that’s reached 13 million units so it’s reasonable to see why they’ve sold a good amount of that game. Sometimes with DreamcastGuy I just shake my head because of the lack of research before talking about a topic.

You kind of answred your own question. PS5 has become the default box for casual gamers. And casual gamers don’t buy these games. Look at even the heavy hitters. It took Ghost of Tsushima over a year to hit 10 million and that was at the end of the PS4’s lifespan. Ratchet and Clank 2016 only sold around 1.5 million (platformers themselves don’t sell well) and Rift Apart sold less than a million the first month it launched. Even God of War Ragnarok only sold like 2.5 million it’s first week out over 100 million PS4’s and PS5’s. No wonder FF had issues. Add in bloated budgets (there’s no way Spiderman 2 should have cost 315 million when they made 2018 for 85 million), and the failed live service push that’s cost them so much, and their games are getting much safer, and blander, as a result on top of it. People also have a bloated idea of what a game ‘should’ sell to be successful. Most games don’t sell anywhere near 10 million copies. For a platformer like Astrobot this is about where I’d expect it to be. But you are right, the vast majority of Sony players are casual gamers (casual gamers make up most of the market as a whole as well on any platform) and most just don’t buy this stuff. They buy Fifa, COD, 2K, GTA Online, Fortnite, the usual suspects. But the sheer cost of ballooning budgets, and how much longer it takes to make games these days, it’s not a good scene for trying to sell a title on a single platform. Even for Playstation.

I think Astro Bot has its own problem. Every PS5 comes with Astro’s Playroom for free, and Astro Bot can easily be interpreted as “just another version, but $60.00 instead of free”. Maybe a lower price tag would have fared better. Personably it’s worth the price to me, it’s the most fun I’ve had in a platformer in a long time, well probably since Astro’s Playroom. However, you can get the Horizon games for $10.00 less each and they are ENORMOUSLY larger in comparison, feels like your money goes much further there.

Nah Dreamcastguy I don't play games to trophy hunt, but I think there are 2 major issues contributing to the lack of sales for PS exclusives. 1st There's a new generation entering gaming the older generation that grew up in the PS2 & PS3 era are aging out & now have too many real life responsibilities to focus on gaming & the younger generations are very casual & only play a handful of live service & annual release games & they never leave those comfort zones, also the Gen Zs don't have the same attachment to console brands & 1st party catalogs because they didn't grow with these brands & characters like millennial did. 2nd The economy is terrible & gaming is too expensive for your average working class individual that has other more important expenses, being able to sit on your a** for several hours a day playing $70 videogames on a $500+ console is a luxury. So people are gonna take less risk trying new games when they come with a $70 price tag, the 2nd hand market is how myself & many others were able to try new games, now that market is dying & now people are playing it safe sticking to only the games they're familiar with & the younger Gen Zs have no original thoughts in their heads & all their decisions in & outside of gaming are controlled 100% by popular streamers.

I got Astrobot last week & it's easily one of the best games from this generation. We need more physics effects, particle effects, creative wacky type games. I'm really disappointed in the game industry & how they have utterly FAILED at Game Creation. We've lost so many game genres. Bring back 2D, 2.5D, 3D, low poly PS1 style, cell shaded, you name it. Anything to save us from this drought of creativity within video games. One day i hope we will see a massive improvement in the way games can be made. Currently it seems like the process of game development can be so unintuitive. It's unintuitive to the point that it restricts the use from a lot of creative & artistic people. Game development is so heavily math & code based that it does not motivate or interest a lot of talented people. Talented people that could be a massive benefit to the game development process but currently that process is not good at incorporating those people. Hypothetically Even if that person got good at game development, there is still so many aspects of game development that need to be improved. Improving game development methods could benefit so many different things.

For me the issue with buying new games is time. If your paying for Playstation Plus they give you a new game each month. And for most people that's more than enough to keep them busy. Heck in most cases you end up with a massive backlog.

Platformers are a very different type of game than sonys usually normal exclusives, theres loads of people who dont like story games and just play casual stuff like platformers and puzzle games so i can definitely see why this one sold differently.

Most units sold are unsold scalper units still sitting in warehouses. Sony ‘probably’ kept millions of original PS5 units to A) create a demand and almost double the price for the consumer and B) convert/recycle the PS5 chips into the ps5 pro units. I mainly play on Switch and Xbox. I bought Astro a couple days after release and I love it! And yeah, I’m one of the ones that hasn’t bought much first party stuff lately. Because Astro is all they’ve done that I care about! Everything is either same old cinematic experience, live service or a quick Ps5 enhanced job you gotta pay for. People dunk on Starfield but at least it’s different because it’s a Bethesda game but in space. I’m not paying for a slight bump in visuals for a game from last gen that didn’t need updating. I’ll play a 7/10 Starfield over a slightly enhanced LoU2 or Horizon any day. I’m sorry. Do more Astro like stuff and my attitude will change
