Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.

I still wonder why they're not huge in Korea..I mean, I know this is sexist but rock/metal music is generally liked by men..Do Korean men prefer cutesy vibes? Or are dc lacking in promotion or something like this? This is just curiosity, I don't mean to offend anyone.

In general, rock/metal music is not mainstream at all in Korea. The "cutesy" sound is more appealing to the general public (i.e. catchier, easy on the ears). You could make the case that idol bands like DAY6 or N.Flying do well, but again, they tend to be targeted to fans of K-Pop rather than K-Rock (plus they have a "softer" sound). However, indie rock is pretty popular with bands like HYUKOH and Jannabi charting decently. I think DC's overall concept and sound is just too unconventional for Koreans. But that leaves the group in a tricky place between changing up their sound to attract newer fans (which can alienate their core fanbase) or continue being consistent with their sound (which could stunt their growth). The good news is that they seem to be gaining traction after each comeback so they are definitely receiving at least some attention from the Korean public.

yes, what RY1459 say. tho I wonder if theres other factor too, cause unfortunately dc is not popular in my country where kpop and j-rock is one of the mainstream. back then dc got lot of popularity when they went to tour(after mixnine thing) I hoped corona went away soon:/

Rock was actually really popular back in 2009 because of cnblue and ft-island. Unfortunately it fell off the interests of the Korean public a few years after that because poppy songs was more pleasing to hear.

@@ry1459 I think it's also 'cause Korea just haven't heard of them or they just don't want to check them out. 'Cause every time I see a Korean react video to their songs or DC meeting idols or other Koreans on shows, etc. they always say that they like their music. There is a video where a dude worked on an album selling company for international, and he said that he never heard of DC, but he noticed how popular they were. Luckily he finally reacted to them, but yeah. Like in the BUGS app, in their BEcause comment section, I read many Koreans asking who they were, what the members names are or asking if they're a new rookie group. Like S Korea like rock, but I don't think they know that DC is there. Not sure how to explain it. Also sorry for my English
