DREAMCATCHER "ODD EYE" M/V REACTION! // Completing the trilogy-- which was your favorite song??

I said it at the end of my video, but this song didn't hit me too much. I still consider "Scream" to still be my favorite!

I felt the same way coming out of the Scream and Boca eras into this, but now I think I was comparing this to the previous two and it lacks that wild animal attack vibe the others have. Since my first listen I've taken it in on its own terms with the themes and vibe and grown to appreciate it a lot more. Plus Handong's voice is so rich and resonant it stood out to me from the very first play. (and it's fantastic that Handong is back!).

Funny...I had the same thought about Odd Eye. But when I kept listening, it kinda grew on me that it's now my favorite of the trilogy. Maybe because it's more melodic and the lyrics make more sense?

Odd Eye is probably my favorite title track of theirs, or maybe second after What. I love the guitar riff, I love how the pace changes flow and the build up to the last chorus, I love how Siyeon was just absolutely feral during this era, I love that Handong came back *so* powerfully after her absence in Scream and Boca, and I love that Dami got a more melodic section and overall a lot of lines! To me this song really shows an accumulation of all their hard work for the past few years and really masterfully combines the music vibes of Scream and Boca. That all being said, I can definitely see why you're not hyped about it if you're really looking for that harder rock/metal sound. Part of that I think is just because of it's place in the storyline, it's set in the cyberpunk future so they're going for a more electronic sound and convey this sort of hopelessness, whereas Scream was essentially a war anthem with mythical, gothic vibes. I think you'll definitely like the Nightmare series if you're looking for more Scream-type songs, because that was their debut storyline so they stuck closer to their original rock-inspired concept. Especially, Chase Me, Good Night, and as other people have mentioned, Piri. But if you *really* want some hardcore rock, you'll probably want to take a look at their Japanese tracks like Endless Night. They tend to go harder on the Japanese songs since rock is a lot more popular there than in Korea. They also have some b-sides with a more classic sound that reminds me of Evanescence and Paramore, like Break the Wall, Mayday, Tension, and Don't Light My Fire.

Appreciate the Dreamcatcher love as always! In regards to the "Odd Eye" sound, it's not just you. I enjoy the song a lot, but it is definitely softer compared to "Scream" and "Boca", for sure. I do appreciate that they weren't afraid to end the trilogy on a depressing note. In my opinion, I hope they were trying to get the point across that if our problems are ignored, nothing will change. Utopia doesn't exist. That's something we have to accept and understand that we shape our future, not find it. My favorite sonically switches between "Scream" and "Boca" regularly. Hmmm. Visually, "Boca" and "Scream" are really close on that one as well. I think I'm going to say "Boca", but just barely. I love the incorporation of the message of the song into the choreography for "Scream", namely the the dancers circling Gahyeon during her "Devil eyes come" part. Lyrically, I think I'm going to stick with "Scream". I love that they compare the current issues of anonymous harassment to a witch hunt using clues of the events happening to them instead of flat out saying it. Overall, I think the trilogy was well though out, the imagery was jarring at some points to provoke thought. I appreciate that any group would take on a topic like that. Much respect to them. In my personal opinion, I would say check out "BEcause" before doing anything with the "Nightmare" series. "Piri" is the last song in the "Nightmare" series. To be honest, I found the story of the "Nightmare" series to be tough to follow in one viewing so it wouldn't be the end of the world or anything if you do end up watching "Piri". In terms of the Dystopia trilogy I would personally rank them 1. Boca 2. Odd eye 3. Scream The way I view them is as a package deal and when I listen to them together, scream has that swelling tension to it that hooks you like the beginning of a movie, Boca is the meat and potatoes of the movie where all the cool stuff in terms of action and story happen, and then odd eye is that bittersweet end where you realize everything doesn't always work out, in that aspect I find the dreamies story arcs really cool! To me it usually feels like you go through all the motions of a story from beginning to end. So i can see how odd eye can feel lacking, but to me it just makes so much sense, the first 2 are all about fighting against all this hate and badness and trying to save everyone and find the perfect utopia but odd is like thay cry of defeat(?) Or resignation, I especially get that feeling from the 3rd chorus and when Siyeon belts out "Odd Eye!" So I feel like I love it so much because I tend to visualize my music a lot and the dreamies give us good storylines for me to attach to and really enjoy the journey! If you're just looking for that more rock sound you definitely have to check out their Japanese releases -Breaking Out (which is also the alternative ending to their nightmare arc) -Endless Night (which has one of my favorite choreography from them) -Eclipse (which is the opening to an anime!) -Don't light my Fire -No More -My Way Breaking Out might be the lightest of all of them all, and endless night is one of my absolutely favorite dreamcatcher songs, though in general I'm a total sucker for all of all of their Japanese releases (including an extra I didn't mention called I Miss You which I didn't list bc it's not super rock-y), it sucks that their previous Japanese label didn't really promote any of their jp releases that well because all of them deserve way more views and attention in my opinion :/ They have a bunch of other more classic rock song in their Korean releases as well but people already mentioned them so I just really wanted to push my jp dreamcatcher agenda haha Hmm I think that's basically all I wanted to say, except for if you find a song you really like I recommend in your own time if you want (especially since idk how copyright works for them) to check out one of their stages or clips from their concerts! I believe the ceo of dcc once said that he envisioned making a more touring group that performs really cool and impactful stages and fills up venues and honestly I think it really worked out in his favor, watching their stages/concerts has made me enjoy songs I was more indifferent about wayyyy more and suddenly start really loving them, idk they just have a really addictive energy on stage to me and really sell a song! Boca is my favorite of the Dystopia trilogy. I should point out that the Odd Eye relay dance video was my most watched music related video of 2021 on YT. 😂 Piri is actually the end of the Nightmare series and has 5 songs before it. Listen to the songs in any order but the MVs will make slightly more sense if you watch them in order. Nightmare series order: Chase Me, Good Night, Fly High(this is actually a prequel to the first two but tbh it makes more sense to watch it after them), You & I, What, and Piri. It should be said that Dreamcatcher has a wide variety of sounds and the last two title tracks, Odd Eye and BEcause, are much less rock and leaning more into pop. It's often the case that their albums are a blend of R&B, EDM, and the odd ballad when it comes to b-sides. Listening to Mamamoo actually prepared me for Dreamcatcher's discography because they taught me that title tracks are dirty liars. 😂

I sometimes think of getting into new groups as a search to find the song that ‘unlocks’ the rest of the discography and allows me to appreciate stuff I’d tried out but didn’t vibe with. That happened for me with Dreamcatcher and Mamamoo. With DC, it wasn’t until Scream that I could go back and appreciate stuff like Deja Vu (now one of my favorites) or their many great Bsides. With Mamamoo, it wasn’t until Hip (and maybe going back to Mr. Ambiguous) that I could appreciate stuff like Starry Night. With DC, some of it was wanting the heavier rock/metal-similar to you-so after Scream, songs like Endless Night (a Jpn release), Piri, Chase Me, Good Night, No More (Jpn release), and maybe Breaking Out (Jpn release) could be good next steps?

@@WatchwithSandee If you’re in on DC and just want to dive into story, starting with Chase Me and the Nightmare era is a good idea. But if you’re still on the fence and need to get in a few solid songs to verify whether their stuff is for you, jumping around out of sequence to Piri or a non-storyline song like Endless Night (or some Bsides if you want a different vibe), also works! Your reactions are always great and honest, so I’ll enjoy whatever path you choose.

Hmm, I'm diverse in music, I listen to just about any kind of music. One of the reason why I Stan DC, because they do just about any genre. The B-sides will show u what I mean. They don't do only rock sounds. But yeah in this trilogy I have no idea which I like better I love all 3 lol! But favorite title track of all is Deja Vu!

My fav sound wise is probably Boca but honestly I love them all. Also, I agree with the other comment saying you might wanna check out their latest release BEcause and then start from their debut. I mean I dont mind because I'm not someone who cares much about the lore/stories/etc in any group I listen to 😂 but I think it'd be interesting to check how their sound and just them as a group progresses over the years. Plus, the Nightmare Series is way more rock heavy and anime-esque if you'd like to call it that. Anyway thank you for the reaction!

The songs in the Nightmare series are more rocky. Dreamcatcher has released over 70 songs over the past 5 years. These songs have a variety of genres. I hope someday you will do an album reaction.

Scream is my fave song in the trilogy and my fave title song from dreamcatcher overall. it is also top 5 among all dc songs (aka including b-sides) boca is my least fave among the dystopia trilogy. at first i liked boca more than odd eye but then i got to appreciate the heavy and slow chorus that has that more “classic” rock feel in Odd Eye

Piri is a great song, no question, BUT it is the ending of a storyline arc that was started when they debuted. The Debut song Chase Me begins that story arc and there are many songs in between that and Piri. Obviously I personally advise watching them in order of release. Other people will say that it doesn't matter as long as you see all of their stuff. Up to you, it's your channel. :)

I'm one of the rubes that Odd Eye is their favorite DC song lmao. It was my first real exposure to them though so I didn't have a lot of expectations going in beyond they were rock influenced. If you didn't get exposed to that first and came to appreciate the hard rock/metal aspects of their previous songs though I can see why it's maybe a bit anti-climactic. Like others, I think I'd personally recommend watching BEcause before the Nightmare series if only because it's a single track that isn't part of a series. Plus it's their most recent TT, it could be fun to finish up their more recent stuff before going back to the beginning. But obviously up to you! I'll enjoy the content whatever you decide to do.

I see what you mean but to me "Odd Eye" is the rockiest sound out of the 3. Hahaha. 😅 For me it's a slower and heavier "classic" old hard rock sound for me. "Scream" is more a neo-EDM rock and "Boca" is more a contemporary metal. Just my own appreciation, I'm not an expert but I like how I feel about these rock sound because it goes in the opposite temporal order compared to the MV visual ("Scream" = medieval but new sound, "Boca" = contempory visual and sounc, "Odd Eye" = cyber punk future but old rock). I can't decide if I prefer "Scream" or "Odd Eye" but "Boca" is probably my least favorite out of the three while I still really like it. And yes in the Dystopia trilogy, the tree is coming back as well as the mask (this time it's the chair where Yoohyeon is sitting at the beginning). The tree is the tree of language which was dying in "Scream" because of all the bad words people are spreading (there is also a "Storyline" spoiler video by DCC which introduces the story). In "Boca" they tried to fight back the haters and maybe grow back the tree. In "Odd Eye", the tree is artificially maintained alive but in the end it's just an illusion. As probably other Somnias already explained "Piri" is the last of the Nightmare storyline. So you should maybe start with "Chase Me". Thanks for the reaction.

Dreamcatcher has over the years and comebacks switched up how much is rock and how much is pop to try and find the sweet spot that will make their music liked across all places (specifically Korea since they have such a small fan base domestically). Their earlier work is rock heavy and their Japanese tracks as well. Their most recent starting with scream really puts a more 50/50 blend that’s well liked. Keeping their unique Dreamcatcher sound but making it more palatable for non rock fans without losing the rock all together. I would say out of the 3 from the dystopia arc I like to listen to odd eye more since it’s easier to listen to over and over but I like the rapping in Boca more. But all together I like all of them and never skip a DC song.

To quote Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones: "If you think this is going to have a happy ending, you have not been paying attention." ;) Dreamcatcher are going a bit into the future here, extrapolating how the world would turn out if we keep doing what we're doing. People can get lost in the world of the Internet and social media and their online personas can take over their life. Dreamcatcher ask us to use our odd eye to see through the lies (on Facebook and others) and don't be fooled by the "plausible lies overshadowed by sweetness". Very deep, as expected. And the song is a banger!
