“A villain is greedy and tends to not care about what others think, and it’s the same with your outfit,” JiU said during a showcase held on Wednesday at Konkuk University's Millennium Hall in eastern Seoul to celebrate the release of the new album. The lead track “OOTD” is a pop punk track whose name derives from the popular hashtag “outfit of the day.” It centers on being “destructive and extraordinary” by being confident. The point was obviously made through the seven members’ chic outfits, as they collectively sported black leather jackets, matched with black baggy pants and white crop shirts, finished off with silver baseball caps. “The song is about being flashy with one’s OOTD, as a personal choice,” JiU said. “You can see the villain’s confidence as well as the seven members fighting over a crown in the music video.” Confidence is the key message of the “VersuS” series, according to Dreamcatcher. The group has been known to have deep central themes underlying its album series, such as environmental issues portrayed in the “Apocalypse” series and cyberbullying in the “Dystopia” series. “A confident concept is something we've always wanted to do for so long,” SuA said. “We hope fans will be surprised at what we are capable of presenting to the audience.”

There is a story going on and will have two parts if I'm not wrong... so this comeback is the beginning 😊 I'm gonna copy and paste some nice explanations from others inSomias, in case that you are interested "This mv might seem like a normal girl crush concept with a mixture of cool and 'i am the best' vibes, but when you dive deeper onto it, you'll realise that its not what you see, it is the reality behind the entertainment industry. Multiple video and photo editing references throughout the mv, fighting scenes which are an act, shooting scenes, expensive cars and motorbikes..all these are a setup by the industry (idol industry let's say) to create an illusion and cover up the reality. The line 'gonna catch your attention then wait till you know' explains how the social media manages to create a good image of influencers online till the moment where you get to know their real faces. This is also followed by the concept of narcissism, where people are extremely obsessed with themselves. 'look at my necklace', 'so flawless', 'so gorgeous', 'so priceless', etc tells us how a person can be narcissistic to a point where they do not think about others." "Handong's legs are covered in bruises. The members fight, but the fight is fake. Jiu is displayed in a box like a product. Gahyeon walks down a grocery store aisle past boxes of cereal like a model on a runway but it's the most mundane consumerist setting possible. Dami talks about drunk driving (Dami, the member known to drink the least). Dami also says "fuck out of my way", that's not girlcrush cool, she's being an asshole. The members are constantly on their phones, Siyeon is shown getting styled looking completely arrogant and self obsessed. Their images in the video are constantly being manipulated, the things happening in the video are constantly being shown to be artifice, breaking the wall to show cameras and crew. They talk about being gorgeous and flawless but they repeat it over and over like they're trying to convince someone or themselves. It's self destructive and narcissistic, not empowering. It's the opposite of being about cool, its about the coolness is a kind of obsessive trap (we see the mystery online social media entity recruiting people as if into a cult). I'm very much convinced follow up's to this will continue to be about a self destructive pursuit of "the crown" (adulation, fame, power)."

You should paste it under the official mv comments too its an awwsome explanation! But i feel like the crown lore will get even bigger later on..

completely agree, this was my first thought when i rewatched the mv with lyrics. i also think it's genius to put the girls portraying the exact opposite of their personalities. jiu, who famously gets embarassed and shy when people call her gorgeous, is telling you to call her a goddess. dami, the one who doesn't drink, talking about drunk driving. yoohyeon, that has the nickname puppy and is generally adorable and kind, getting in a fight with handong. having handong, who is the quietest, of all members, pick a fight. and even having them tell us "no more questions" when they're known for making songs with commentary and hidden meanings that induce critical thinking. it's all a show, even their more subdued rock sound. all the coding references, the green screens, the crown that's literally fake and even them disappearing once the camera's gone at the end feel like it's playing at the fact that it's all fake and that this isn't who they really are. if the computer was to crash, this version of dreamcatcher would have nothing, not even the crown to pursue.

the wiki explanation of the songs really shatters everybody's interpretations. i for one, really think OOTD meant to expose the lies and fakeness of beauty and fashion standards or lifestyle of internet persona or celebrities or narcissm in general. Dami's rap almost sum it all for the song. like, the crown symbolizes the fame, the attention, the oohhs and ahhs of people praising, being at the 'top'. but in the end, like in the MV, the crown is just a rendering, fake, a lie, a mask. once it all gone, everybody is just the same, but still, people chase the crown even knowing that it gives nothing.. but that is just my interpretation, every one has their own taking.
@saschas.2676

Yeah, I'm not sure where the explanations on the wiki page come from. OOTD is indeed a criticism on the narcissism, social media forcing it and the kpop industry that sells you a fake product.

You have seen the 'This Is _' series so you know what wholesome, down-to-Earth, hardworking clowny dorks these awesome ladies are. You also know about Dreamcatcher's penchant for making social commentaries into songs. There is no way that Han Dong would ever actually get into a physical altercation and push Yoohyeon to the ground. That's all obviously scripted. The 'behind-the-scenes' stuff for that scene really speaks volumes about the subject. Dami's rap should also have set off more of a Red Flag for you than it did. ANY of the members (who LOVE us fans) telling us to 'shut up' and saying 'no questions' is another. And most of all from my perspective, JiU telling people to call her a Goddess... She was EMBARRASSED (and flattered) when she found out she had been voted 'Most Beautiful K-Pop Idol' BOTH times it happened. NO WAY would she EVER tell anybody to call her a Goddess. So, 'OOTD' is actually sarcastic satire about the Internet and about the behavior (good or bad) of 'Influencers'. Re-watch the MV and read the lyrics again with that thought in mind. I bet you come away with a whole new dimension of thought after that. ACTRESSES, every one of these ladies. :)

At first glance you could think OOTD is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct, but the fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe useless instagram influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion. The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up. The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback. It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song. The music is highly interesting as well. There still is rock there, but dialed back. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

I think maybe my comment got filtered because I typed the names, but that computer screen at the end, the name on the screen if you add a 99 to the end and check on a certain platform that used to be a bird you will see Dreamcatcher has had an ARG going for the past month or so where they were using that to build a whole story about searching for the crown. The MV is full of references from it

This video has so much to unpack. Non insomnias think that they singing about being the BEST etc but its about critizicing the industry where they show only what they want. Thats why Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting but when the recording stops they get along so It was fake, Siyeon in the car seems real but its a Green Screen, Handong IS posing for pictures with only her upper body showing but she has bruises on her legs. Also at the end, the crown and background IS all shiney and they dress with the caps and leather jackets but then its all a Green Screen and they have no caps or jackets, they shut down the camera and they dissapear 😮😮😮😮😮😮

OOTD is my 8th favorite title track. I love that is an about a number of things- what people will do for fame and keep the fame as they become obsessed with it and villain: the fancy vehicle, product placement, tic tok/instagram/trend set, fake drama . Toxic narcissism being a villain- goddess, spotless, gorgeous, I am the best ever. How social media and the KPop industry is not as perfect they try to seem hence the photoshop and BTS. It’s purposely arrogant to show the villain that believes they are everything. It has the darkness of nightmare and dystopia in the undertone. I totally know Bwitched! Rising is my favorite b-side. But shatter is also great and it’s Madusa inspired.

Man the more I listen to this album the more I like it. 'We Are Young' is just not my song, not my style at all, but I will probably still not always skip it because I treasure Dami singing like this. Shatter is so damn good. While I would like OOTD longer with a more creative bridge, I think Shatter is perfect. It explores it's musical idea(s) to the fullest and doesn't overstay it's welcome. Definitelly a Fucks/10 song.

OOTD may a different style of Dreamcatcher, but this is [VillainS] mini album, and it's sarcastic message. This title track 'confused me', not pull me in as soon as I listen to it like Justice. but the message, satire, mini album name, come to make this song sense. Even not catch me like Justice, I like OOTD, in a new path of Dreamcatcher. OOTD become villain song, I 'do not' like it, but there must be villain for virtuous to come

I would just like to point out that this is not Dami's first time dropping the F-bomb in the audio. Listen to her lines in 'Black Or White' again, VERY CAREFULLY. In the lyrics for English speakers, Dami's lines say 'I'm gonna mess up...' but what she actually says is 'I'm gonna FFFF up...' It obviously does not happen all the time, she doesn't have to go that edgy every song. It is deliberate when it is done, so it is done for emphasis.
@veebeewai
@veebeewai Жыл бұрын
The first line in her rap? It’s actually “Amugeona seokkeo beorillae” (I want to mix it up with anything) and the entire rap is in Korean except for the “okay, okay”. Yeah, it’s a common misheard lyric that makes English speakers do double takes. Even now as I was listening to it again the s in seokkeo somehow turns into an f. It’s weird. Kinda like that laurel/yanny meme from a few years back. Probably the only intentional curse in their songs was in Locked Inside a Door with Sua’s “jinjja sh(!bal)” though she claimed it was a different word despite it being beeped out in the song.
