This is the official answer from Dreame support about the side brush (After many tests in the research lab, we found that the side brush not only could not clean the carpet, but even caused damage to the carpet, so we disabled the side brush function on the carpet.) I have share your video in my Dreame group on Facebook with 8 k followers 👍 As always nice video! 😍🙏

I agree with your sentiments. This seems to me to be a ridiculous response from Dreame. @jamie.andrews Did you do any experimenting with the global setting which I believe is on the "Carpet Cleaning" page and is the last setting on the page labelled "Ignore"? As I understand it that will force the X40 to treat carpets and rugs as if they are hard floors so it will force it to use the side brush not only on hard floors but also on carpets and rugs. Like @adrispiro9426 that's pretty important to me because seeing what a good job the side brush does of cleaning into corners on hard floors, and under the edges of furniture, I find it crazy that on carpets the X40 in default settings won't clean the corners of my carpeted rooms, under the edge of beds, bedside tables etc. As I understand it (I don't have an X40) the downside of activating the "Carpet Settings/Ignore" option (if that's what it's called) is that if requested the X40 would then happily mop a carpet or rug but I assume that by being careful to get an accurate map in terms of defining rugs (no mop zones) and accurate positioning of the room thresholds between carpeted and non-carpeted rooms then properly defined cleaning jobs should ensure that you never put the X40 into a situation where it would mop a carpet or rug. Also in a house with even a single high-pile (shag) carpet that might tangle the side brush Carpets/Ignore wouldn't be an option because it's a global setting. For me though I think setting Carpets/Ignore to on might work.
@julianfp1952
@julianfp1952 2 ай бұрын
Sounds strange to me given how almost every other robot vacuum out there uses at least one - and in some cases like Ecovacs two - side brushes on carpets seemingly without getting loads of complaints from users about carpet damage. I've seen mention in another review of a setting in the app, on the "Carpet Settings page" called "Ignore" which when set tells the X40 to treat all surfaces as if they are hard floors i.e. use the side brush everywhere. The only issue I see with that is the danger of accidentally mopping a carpet or rug but I assume that provided one is careful to accurately define no-mop areas for any rugs and to make sure that all room boundaries between carpeted and hard-floored rooms are very accurately placed to reflect where the edges of carpets are then everything should be OK. If I get an X40 I'm hoping that setting Carpets/Ignore to on will work for me because most of my rooms are carpeted and missing out on having the side brush get into the corners would really bug me especially seeing what a good job it does on hard floors.

@@jamie.andrewsI would like to see your comparison review on these too. Although I already tested them both myself and chose the s1 pro in the end. The water coming from the s1 pro is dirtier than what comes out of the x40 even after diluting it to be similar to the x40 in volume it water. Also I measured that s1 pro sucks up about 50% of the water it used on floors without obstacles and about 25% of the water it used when running in my kitchen/dining area, I expect the struggles around table and chairs to be the reason for this. The additional maintenance seems neglible since my floors are generally quite clean and I don’t have pets or kids making a mess. Obstacle avoidance is better on the x40, especially at night due to the light, but it’s good enough on the s1 pro. Also I have hue lights anyway so I just turn them on automatically when the s1 pro does it thing. The x40 is more quiet but it runs when I sleep so no issue they’re aswell. The x40 is the superior vaccuum, but that doesn’t really matter on hard floors that get vacuumed every day. Don’t care about 1-3% more efficiency if the x40 when it gets done every day. In the end I just thought really long and hard about what the s1 pro can do and the x40 can’t; suck up the dirty water. In the end imo it’s the superior technology for cleaning the floors. Mopping close to the wall is a non issue imo. That doesn’t get dirty. And for my carpet I have a Dyson that I can use for deep cleaning every couple of months.

As well as completely caking the bottom of my L20 with feces. Dreamtech is unwilling to service it. Completely frustrated. Especially since they keep making new models instead of maintaining or updating their older ones.

Thanks for the long awaited review. The S40 Master will be available this week in Europe. It is the same, but with a smaller dock because of the integrated plumbing. The dock has a removable bad tray. I don't know if it will come to the US. I will buy that one now with confidence. One question, since you can turn pet vaste off, will that improve the object avoidance to be less carful?
@jamie.andrews
@jamie.andrews 2 ай бұрын
No word on my end about that coming to the US. No turning pet detection off has not solved that problem as many of the things that it mistakes are not labeled as pet waste.
@julianfp1952
@julianfp1952 2 ай бұрын
@@jamie.andrews I assume you can turn off object avoidance altogether if that works for someone who always keeps very uncluttered floors. If Dreame can't get it working nicely all the time then maybe, rather than something like turning off pet waste avoidance, some sort of sensitivity setting might be possible so that users could set it to whatever they felt was appropriate for their circumstances. That might not be that difficult for Dreame to implement because most object recognition algorithms determine a confidence level when they "think" they have recognised an object so I'm thinking that a sensitivity level setting might simply be an adjustment to the threshold level at which the firmware determines that the confidence level returned by the object recognition algorithm is high enough for what it sees to be treated as an object to be avoided. If that was ever done then maybe you might want a separate sensitivity setting for pet waste so that a user could tell the system to still be ultra-cautious if it thinks something is pet waste but to give anything else more benefit of the doubt as to whether it is an object or not.

A better buy depends greatly on the market price of one compared to another. It also depends on the needs and wants of the buyer as well. I'm a fan of all of these robots you listed. Right now in the L20 Ultra is over $1000 less than the X40. It has a good bit less features, but for some those features are worth it and for others totally not. If it were me I would buy an L20 Ultra and a Roborock Dyad Pro or Flexi Pro and have an excellant combo plus have enough left over to buy some supplies.

I'm having a docking issue with my X40 when the dock is on medium/high pile carpets. The issue is with the ramp extension where the end of it has an upward curve to it whereas the X30 ramp extension does not have that. It's flat. I'm not sure it was changed since it makes it difficult for the robot to get over that curve on the edge of the ramp as it's backing up. The issue only occurs if the mop pads are not installed. I presume that the ramp extension on the X30 will work on the X40 dock. Are you able to confirm?

Except move the lidar to the top lip, & make the vacuum physically smaller so it can get to hard to reach areas. (I don't need it but what about stairways too??) Base station I'd like features like an inbuilt air purifier/humidifier/dehumidifier, plus upgrades to the things you mentioned. Also I'm waiting for price to drop, as that would cost $3000-$4000 in region where I live.

Hi Jamie, Please don't get me wrong. This robo vacuum is probably the absolute best at the moment. You are correct, there are very few manufacturers to implement additional hepa filtration but nevertheless they exist. That's exactly my point. Why not? It's 2024 and hepas are around for a very long time. We know alot in this day and age about dangers of micro dust particles right? These docking stations provide enough suction power to push the exhaust air through an additional hepa. There is no arguing about that. The additional cost would be marginal and very easy to manufacture. It's no secret. The sole purpose of vacuuming is a clean floor but also clean air and unfortunately designs like we see here, push a lot of micro dust back into the room. The whole concept is somewhat contradictory. The robot has an hepa filter in the cartridge but the docking station has not. I truly wonder why manufacturers would skip a very important filtration component like this. Btw. Keep up the amazing work. Your channel rocks!!👍 you have a new subscriber ;)
