Strato C Movie Player
-Plays movies from Terra, compact Terra, and Strato S
-Compact and quiet for dense rack installations or local placement in a room
-New wall mount option lets you mount the Strato C behind a TV for local placement
-Ideal for additional viewing zones in residential and marine applications
-Custom 1RU rack shelf with faceplates for one or two players sold separately
-Kaleidescape designed the Strato C movie player to provide an immersive home cinema experience, with better audio and video playback quality than most commercial theaters. Strato C is a premium 4K Ultra HD movie player that supports high dynamic range (HDR) and lossless multichannel audio including Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X, and DTS-HD Master Audio. Strato C plays movies from a Terra, a compact Terra, or a Strato S over a network, with bit rates up to 100 Mbps and frame rates up to 60 fps.
Terra Movie Server
-Storage options for approximately 1,200 (72TB) or 800 (48TB) 4K movies
-Downloads a 4K HDR movie in as little as 10 minutes, at up to 800 Mbps
Increased ability to play back and download content at the same time
-Distributes up to 10 simultaneous playback streams in 4K HDR when connected to Strato C players
-Four best-in-class hard drives allow the system to stay up and running in the event of a drive failure
-Custom rack mount shelf sold separately
-Kaleidescape’s Terra movie servers and Strato C movie players represent the pinnacle of system performance and configuration. Separating the server and player dramatically increases the processing power of the Terra server in comparison to our combined Strato S product. The Terra server downloads a 4K movie in as little as 10 minutes, 4x faster than the Strato S, and can simultaneously distribute up to ten 4K HDR movies to Strato C players, allowing customers to enjoy their movie collection not just in their theater room, but throughout the home.
Compact Terra Movie Server
-Storage for approximately 300 (18TB), 200 (12TB), or 100 (6TB) 4K movies
-Downloads a 4K HDR movie in as little as 10 minutes, at up to 800 Mbps
-Ability to play back and download content at the same time
-Distributes up to 5 simultaneous playback streams in 4K HDR when connected to Strato C players
-The compact size allows the server to be rack mounted side-by-side with the Strato C
Kaleidescape’s compact Terra movie server and Strato C movie players offer upgraded performance compared to Strato S, pulling key features from the top-level Terra sever into a smaller and less expensive package.

They should create a rental only version of this device. It could have 1 TB, They could sell this for $999, I would get one today.

If they sold the software to work on any standard PC.. that would be nice.. including the instructions to format your storage to enable encryption of movies etc. But I guess making all the hardware and software proprietary and pricing it like a boss makes it justifiable to the more than average citizen lol

Why would they do that? There’s absolutely no content, well I did buy 4 movies in IE. But after that you are hard pressed to find anything. Disney isn’t IE. A expanded picture does not equal IE!

It’s an amazing system IMO and I’ve always wanted one, but let’s face it. We all know it’s not for us average HT enthusiasts. The s**t is just way too expensive for most of us to afford.

Unfortunately we get this remark a lot. It is a premium offering, but it is pricey. However, it has always been an expensive option. Maybe KScape will come with a more affordable option?!?!?

For me if it’s for every room in the house per the 4000 dollar compact Strato C, why doesn’t it support Dolby Vision seeing that the rest of the house is most likely televisions? For the price of the system alone I would hope it supported all the visual formats available e.g. HDR10, Dolby Vision and whatever IMAX Enhanced claims to be and all the sound formats. Then they could also say we are the only company able to give you uncompressed ATMOS, and DTS-X movies. She says you need a gigabit switch but she isn’t really saying where it needs to be in the chain. Most people won’t have a gigabit fiber connection so doubt she means you need that to support the system though I see it helping with the download but what I think she is saying is that from the server to the the player you need to be hardwired at gigabit Ethernet speeds in order to play movies without issues from the server to the player. Now if you just have one player and server in one room you can connect them together. So you would go from your router/modem either directly to the Kaleidscape or to a switch that is connected to the Kaleidscape. Because you are only going to be able to download at the speed you pay for through your ISP. And that’s a theoretical maximum. IMO the price is relative to your socio-economic status. The problem I see for the majority of people is that you are being asked to pay 9k for a basic setup for the privilege to then pay 20-35 dollars on average a movie. Oh and if you want to access that content on another device in your house you either need to have another 4 thousand dollar Compact Strato C or a video matrix. This item which I definitely support existing at whatever price they need it to be viable isn’t for 99 percent of HT enthusiasts. I’m sure I will eventually get one but right now there are pieces of equipment that would serve me better for the same cost like an anamorphic lens. But I see you Kaleidscape! 👀
@garystinten9339

I imagine the switch goes between the server and the players.. so the switch can direct traffic between players and server.. Having a gigabit switch and up would make transporting data between server and players a lot easier, almost to the point where it would seem seem less between the two devices (server and player) and be able to handle multiple connections (in case more than one user wanted to watch a 2nd/3rd movie simultaneously) The cost is the prohibitive element.. unless you make your own "kaliedascape" system which allows for playing in every room and hitting the high seas for high quality rips from sources undisclosed.. or if you have a friend who has kaliedascape files, or has a way to "capture" the video from kaliedascape and encode it with absolutely no restriction.. or compression and move it to your home server

Nice introduction as I was curious about what Kaleidescape offered. You do get full 4K UHD resolution movies with streaming as well though. What they probably meant with 8 times the resolution is the video bitrate. I feel their products are lacking a little bit storage wise though with only 6 TB server increments. Disks are pretty cheap and these are premium products for high end home theaters, right?

Thanks for the very informative video. I have a high end home theater and I have been putting off buying a Kaleidoscope for over 10 years. I’m now considering buying one but here is my dilemma, and it’s not the initial cost. My concern is the rentals… With our Netflix subscription, on top of streaming, we get the blu ray discs rentals mailed to us. The cost is unlimited discs at $16 a month. I can be conservative and say that with U.S mail time I can get 12 movies on BR a month. With Kaleidoscope it’s $8 for one rental… Which means that’s 10 less movies a month for the same price, and the quality with Kaleidescape is the same of slightly better then a BR. This is $80 more a month for renting the extra 10 movies; multiple by 12 months a year that’s $960 for basically Blu Ray quality material. Here’s my idea for Kaleidescape, offer a monthly subscription for rentals. Obviously it should be at a higher price then Netflix monthly cost because it’s over all a better product. But lets face it 2/3 of the movies I watch I have no desire to watch again, much less buy them. I only buy the ones I love. If I went with Kaleidescape, it would almost be better to rent BR from Netflix, and buy it on K if I loved it, and that I planned on watching it again and wanted to have it in my collection. My next question is I have over 500 BR movies. I know K has a Disc to DIgital program where you upload your BR disc, and then you can buy the K version of that movie. How long does it take to upload the disc? How much does it cost to buy the K version? IE, what’s the regular price and the sales price to convert disc to digital. I also heard that this is only available on certain movies. What % of movies is this available for and can I go to the K store and see a list of the one’s available for this type of purchase. Thanks in advance, James
@garystinten9339
@garystinten9339 Жыл бұрын
Your paying for the quality of the movies.. these are mezzanine movie files from studios directly.. Bluray discs are apparently limited to 66gb and Sony squeezes upto 100gb a Bluray.. however kaliedascape allows you to download the studio file that the studio sends to distributors for their reproduction or compression to master said blurays.. If they offered every format, uncompressed and with all versions of audio and slashed off the price a couple of grand.. this would kill streaming overnight. As for what K has.. you need to check out their store and without a system registered it's hard to know exactly.. Perhaps go into a dealer for a demo or buy the basic 6k startup and try it out.

KALEIDESCAPE has been around, for over 20 years. Their platform has always been pricey, but still popular and successful among super passionate home theater enthusiasts. It's all a matter, of careful planning and budgeting. I would think that's true [for most people], of any big ticket purchase. After all, people who are not rich still buy luxury cars, boats, and/or vacation homes. And KALEIDESCAPE systems are far less expensive, than those things are.
@jr62inhometheater98

@@christopherbrown5023 Yes that’s exactly why I haven’t bought my Kaleidoscape yet. First I had to buy my vacation home and then my luxury car to get there. And don’t forget my luxury yacht. Now I think I can budget enough so that I can finally purchase my Kaleidoscape!!
@christopherbrown5023

@@jr62inhometheater98 I think you missed my point. You said, "it's more of price doesn't matter budget." I made the point that's not true. I gave examples of items far more expensive than KALEIDESCAPE, but have still been purchased by those who are not dramatically wealthy. In other words, KALEIDESCAPE is clearly NOT exclusively for people with sky high budgets. For example, I make under $100K a year. But I do have a premium JVC 4K projector that exceeds the cost, of a KALEIDESCAPE system. How did I afford my projector? I saved up half its cost, and financed the rest. You see? I planned and budgeted, to make that purchase. And I can do it again because I'm a passionate home theater enthusiast who appreciates the best premium quality products.
@jr62inhometheater98
@jr62inhometheater98 2 жыл бұрын
@@christopherbrown5023 Or maybe you missed mine. Saving and buying a JVC Projector is more of something that is really needed for a HT. If it’s a Epson , Sony or JVC it is a key component of your system. The Kaleidoscape is just simply a luxury piece of equipment, it’s just not needed. I am pretty sure if you took a poll on what is keeping a HT enthusiast from having a Kaleidoscape system you would get pretty much the same answer across the board.
@christopherbrown5023
@christopherbrown5023 2 жыл бұрын
@@jr62inhometheater98 High quality source components are needed just as much, as a high quality display in a premium home theater. Kaleidascape and 4K Blu-ray players are both excellent sources. I suppose you make a fair point that Kaleidascape isn't absolutely necessary. At least not yet. But what happens if physical media was hypothetically no longer available? What would we be left with? Streaming services? I would never accept that. I'm grateful Kaleidascape exists and is flourishing. Because under that horrific scenario [of no physical media], Kaleidascape would be the absolute best source for passionate home theater enthusiasts. It may not be critically needed right now, but some day it could. And it already offers a lot of 4K content that's not available, on 4K Blu-ray. That said, long live physical media.

@Dreamedia Home Theater is there going to be an option for just your evey day renter?? Someone who isn't an "enthusiast" and just wants to watch maybe 10 movies or so a week and delete as need be with the OPTION TO BUY or rerent? I have seen some commenters say if there was a 1k renters unit to just rent a movie/album/concert they'd be all over it.. and add an all you can eat pass to just rent for an entire year like say 200 bucks a year.. you'd definitely have an audience waiting to take and welcome this into their homes.. I know I would love to see a system like this, where I can download a movie for the evening, that as you state is "top shelf quality, direct from studio, mezzanine level quality" with potential to upgrade storage at a later date to purchase. One other thing I'd love to see is genre select.. as in all you ever watch is action or horror or drama etc. You can pick those genres and that's it (with the option to switch on other genres in a settings menu) Another would be layout. With a full spread of movie information about a title and inbuilt trailer to play on title screen info page. If say a customer wants another player, system isn't crippled to buying a seperate server, they just connect to original server and goes from there, just like the original system. Lastly.. please enable all format types for both video and audio options for all video types.. if a director has only one format.. state that there is only one format, but if there is stereo version, 5.1 Dolby Digital, Dolby Atmos, etc, allow that. If a video has a certain aspect, but a customer wants full screen instead of widescreen format, allow player to adjust with aspect stretching to avoid what I call "fathead syndrome" where actors heads stretch and so does the background and feels less "realistic and immersive" a good example of a media player is Kodi.. it allows you to adjust the picture without stretching and causing the aspect to stay the same without fathead occuring.. make this happen and their source code is open source..

Not being rude but IMO this is completely not necessary. All you need is Plex, a server, and the ability to rip DVD's, Blu-ray's, and 4K Blu-rays. My Plex server is far superior to any Kaleidescape system.

Hi Bobby- We appreciate you’r comment but would have to politely disagree. Plex is a great ecosystem, but in terms of ease of use and sound quality. It is unmatched to Kaleidescape. Having used both system on multiple systems, youre correct by saying it is not necessary, as none of this stuff is truly necessary;) but it’s fun. The Kaleidescape is the superior system but it is not cheap.
@bobbyjones1055

@@Dreamediaav I would disagree with your comment. Sound quality? You have Doby Atmos (sound quality) with Plex if using an Nvidia Shield TV, Apple TV, or a client that supports it. Kaleidescape is not as customizable as Plex, not even close. Plex can not only playback movies, it can playback High Rez Music (especially DSD), TV Shows, Live TV, Concerts, show Photo Albums, Family Movies, etc. You can basically customize Plex to do whatever you want. Kaleidescape basically plays movies...that's all. I'm sorry, it's just not very versatile and at that price point, it should do far more then just play movies. Kaleidescape is for the customer who has ALOT money and isn't very tech savvy, if we're being honest.

@@bobbyjones1055 the audio tracks on Kaleidescape are more uncompressed (most of the time) than on a disc… In terms of its main use, movies. I would say the majority of folks would pick Kscape given both machines costing the same. Just to get the movie on Plex is more work than most people at that level want to fool with. Both are great systems, we appreciate the feedback and engagement!

They should stop selling box and just create apps for the retail devices out there. Everything in the cloud not your hdd and box. Its easy to do a 65Mbps internet feed. Even I dont understand why they do compression at this point when the everage will be about 70mbps for 4k. A bit like Sony core but available for everybody with a small montly subscription fee and a cost for rental/purchase. Nowdays all the retail devices do a great job and support all video/audio formats.

I believe they are directly connected with movie studios and get a higher resolution file than what can fit onto a 4k disc. My guess the studios are charging a premium price so they pass that price onto the customer. While I think the picture and audio quality would be outstanding the price is not justified. It maybe better than a physical 4k disc but $1000's of dollars better ??? I think not. What a lot of people do is buy 4k movies from the store, rip them, then sell off the movie and get their money back so it basically costs very little to put together a 4k digital collection.
