When this movie came out I was worried it wouldn't hold true to the Broadway production, which was spectacular in its day. The movie was perfectly casted and exceptionally well done. I saw it... the first time... with my brother and his wife. When the entire theatre erupted in applause, before this song ended, I glanced at him and got that "don't even think about it" look, still clapping I jumped up, "You go girl, you go Effie!". I'm changing an underrated song, dropped my first tear and I was balling when I saw Effie's daughter crying.

The ending to this movie is one of the best I've ever seen . I cry everytime that I watch it . I originally watched because of Jamie Foxx , Eddie Murphy and Beyonce Knowles , but before the movie came to an end , Jennifer Hudson had already become my favorite . I also wanted there to be a part 2 , so that we could findout if Jamies character ever developed a relationship with his daughter .

I saw the stage version many times with Jennifer Holliday. I absolutely loved it. I was hoping against hope that they were not going to ruin it with it's film adaptation. Eh, I’d rather if they make another one that they just keep it focused on Effie, Deena, Lorell, and Michelle. I hate sequels focused on the children of the main characters from the previous movie, plus a sequel would never happen. Dreamgirls have songs that are cemented in broadway and blck culture.
