Great talk. The reason I left my NGO/s work to start my educational company because I saw that one of the best ways to support people is giving them the right education that enable them to use their potentials and strengths to change their lives for the better.

This idea has been known for generations. It came from the Chinese proverb, "GIVE A MAN A FISH, FEED HIM FOR A DAY. TEACH A MAN TO FISH, FEED HIM FOR A LIFETIME". Thanks Anik for preaching the message, more people need to be aware about this matter.

Hi Anik, I love your approach! I live in the Ottawa, Canada area and have spent the last 20 years working in the Community Development field. Currently, I'm developing an approach in collaboration with the Fair Trade movement, Youth Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship. For palatable reasons, I call it "FairMarketCapitalism" - an essential shift from the current system where there's no such thing as free trade within the Matrix system of world control. There is a consciousness rising throughout the world realizing that each person born into this world has the inalienable rights (natural rights) to live a life of basic prosperity in a free world built around a love paradigm of care for each other, our communities and the world at large. Thanks you! Ray Folkins

Giving, other than as a temporary means, is never the solution; teaching others how to earn that which you could easily give is and has always will be the only way to expand the bounty of the universe for the good of all ... very eloquent and powerful message Anik ... you are a true leader without title in this world of too many titled but false leaders.

This is phenomenal. There a saying that goes like this: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". This Quote by the Ancient Chinese Philosopher Lao Tzu is what fueled China's strategy to empower its people. We can learn and implement this quote in our daily lives. May God give us the ability and means to do so. A'meen.

This is so powerful. Thanks, Anik! There was recently a participant in the Welfare Food Challenge on my radio show. People on welfare here in Vancouver, Canada live on about $2 day for food (if they're lucky... many people live on less than that). It creates a perpetual cycle of poverty, illness and hopelessness for many people. Rather than investing in our population, the social welfare system here provides barely enough to survive. Only the most resourceful and resilient are able to pull themselves out of extreme poverty... which becomes increasingly harder when a person is starving and chronically worried about money, to the point of major anxiety and sleeplessness. I'm wondering what a more empowerment-based social welfare system might look like here in Canada... and what difference it could make to our city, our country, and to the world.

Bravo, Anik! What a great talk. I have same perspective with yours. Empowerment is the key to solve the poverty of the world. Giving is not enough we need to empower them. Anik, Thanksgiving was the perfect day to watch your fantastic Ted Talk "Dreams of the Bottom Billion - A New Approach To Curing World Poverty" | Anik Singal | TEDxUBIWiltz. You explained how to eliminate poverty by empowering the poor to help themselves. You gave examples of your Dream Schools in India that are self sustaining and empowering the poor to help themselves. That is a remarkable concept. Thank you for your insight and inspiring me to think of all I am grateful for in my life today on Thanksgiving!

This is powerful stuff Anik. While I already knew the part that you had established schools in Mumbai, your talk has opened my eyes further about the extent of need for such empowerment and the impact of this approach worldwide. We have all heard of "Give a man fish everyday vs Teach him fishing", but this is going beyond that through 'educating' them to be sustainable and keep growing. Congrats and best wishes!

Si entienden inglés, esta charla IS A MUST SEE!

Great talk Anik, I remember meeting you when you had just started the first school and seeing how that has evolved into what this is now is mind blowing. Did your pupils draw that pie chart because 41% is way bigger than the small slice. As always it is a pleasure to see anyone helping those who need help, but enabling them to help themselves is way better as it gives people their dignity as well as a full belly.

Anik, Congratulations for being able to give your TED talk! And I love, love, love your idea of applying basic business principles to charitable giving, and realizing that true help comes from "teaching a man to fish", not just handing out cash. As a retired teacher and school principal, and a former business person, I often suggested to my peers that school districts in the USA should be run more like businesses than a government funded charity. The results would be so much better! Thank you for having the heart and the courage to lead the way!

I love this guy, and his webinars, public speaking etc.....He 'gets it' and is like minded with me.....I encourage you all to watch this, comment and share on your own wall etc.........Are you giving (enabling a mindset to stay stuck in a pattern that isn't working for them) or Empowering (making a sustainable difference of long term change for a person or community) That is the question you need to ask yourself when you say you are 'supporting a cause'. Powerful video, this guy is awesome! Love his stuff from Marketing to causes, his energy, and clarity in how we should view all aspects of life is awesome and contagious! Yes, you have said and shown the old saying in a more defined up-to-date way - 'give a man a fish and you feed him once, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.' Now if we could get that money into organizations like yours that would do just that with people's 'investments' the world would be a better place. Just think of all the inventions, medicals advancements, technology, etc. that are not being developed because people can not concentrate on anything other than day to day survival - we need more of this type of empowerment in all countries of the world.
