50 years ago today; Foreman, the young, extremely powerful champion was strong favourite to win against an ageing Ali, who of course went against all the prevailing logic of staying away and moving. Only he had the confidence and ability to go 'rope a dope' and make Foreman punch himself out, before knocking out his opponent in the eight round. Ali was completely unique as a fighter and as a human being.

I remember this fight like it was yesterday. I was 14 years old now I'm 64 when I woke up and my great-grandmother told me Ali had won I couldn't believe it I was so happy. I had watch Foreman dismantle Frazier destroy Norton and most everyone didn't give the greatest a chance. This is the fight that sealed the deal on Ali being the greatest. No matter what Floyd Mayweather thinks he has no victory like this one... against a foe so formidable 7 years younger and was invincible... this man would come back 20 years later and win the title again....only for Ali to take him into deep waters and drown him. Foreman really was something special. He knew that Ali made him give up...and he would not give up against Michael Moorer

I’d say crafty rather than genius. Had the referee put a stop to Ali’s holding on to Foreman’s arms and to his constantly leaning on the ropes it might have been a different outcome.

Ali would still device another trick up his sleeve to win the fight. He was that scientific as a fighter. Big George Foreman admitted that.​@@subrogation747

And Ali became a walking corpses in His late years. While Foreman is still in it. Life can be somewhat strange.

Ali was his own worst enemy. He won fights while absorbing tremendous punishment. Foreman was tired in that fight but not really hurt.
