FINALLY a mix engineer that Understands that LaBrie's vocals are better when they are further into the mix. Too many of their live recordings put his vocals too far forward and I think that's why so many people think he's a horrible live vocalist. But this concert proves he's a fantastic vocalist in that he BLENDS with the band rather than leads it with his vocals. As a FOH engineer myself it can be tempting to put the vocals as far forward as possible, as thats usually what the crowd is singing along to. But Dream Theatre work best when all elements are level in the mix.

My only gripe was him shouting the last verse in Space Dye Vest, because aggressive vocals just don't fit that song in my opinion. My mom and sister who were unfamiliar with the band actually pointed out "I like the singer's voice" during that show. James has had bad gigs, but he was on point on this particular tour.

Yeah this particular concert will forever be their best yet. Cannot be topped. The concept of a prog metal band accompanied by choir and orchestra is not an idea that can always be executed everytime, even if they wanted to. Especially because this concert's setlist was so good and compatible for orchestra and choir. And Mangini.... Oh Mangini... His drum set in this concert is the best and peak. His set has been getting smaller as years of tours keep going. Before he get kicked from the band, his set is just like any regular custom set, not really that "holy shit". For me, now that Mangini is gone, DT ends. Good for people who enjoy Portnoy but it won't ever be the same without Mangini, for me. Glad that this concert in Boston is prove that Mangini once rocked the best in this band.

22:07 Little bit of a factoid there with James' feet. Notice how he's stepping in line with the tempo, steps a bit faster and gets off the beat, then shuffles his feet for the next phrase to get back on again, so he starts singing with a foot touching the ground. One of those little things that makes you remember that he's human and things like that help with a performance.

They are in a class of their own. It's as simple as that. Their virtuosity and professionalism is profound. I love you guys. It's been a love affair ever since that fateful night back in 1992.

I’m going to have to agree with Elixear here, this band is frankly not as good as others that it draws comparisons to. In fact I would say crazy musicians like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion exhibit greater talent and rhythm than this band. Still though, I think this band still has great potential. 👍
@kevinkilduff20643 жыл бұрын
@@Elixear Thanks for the comment E. but, with respect, there are very few bands in the history of progressive rock music which mesh this level of technical artistry with gripping melodies and tight musicianship. Rush, Yes, Kansas and fusion jazz greats Return to Forever would be among those bands in the conversation, certainly. But DT belongs right there, in my opinion.

@vinniciusrosa82844 жыл бұрын

He is on the Mt. Rushmore of the bass guitar for sure but I only wish Myung for once would smile or show some type of emotion. I know he is playing technical stuff that requires concentration but have some feel... Geddy Lee, Billy Sheehan, Tony Levin, those guys make you feel the music. Then you see how they play and its mind blowing.
