Man, I just love James voice so much on Awake. It saddens me to know that this was probably his peak, and even though Scenes From a Memory is my favorite DT album, Awake is, for me, their strongest and the one I find myself going back to over and over.

Happy "420" 55th birthday Michael Stephen Portnoy 04/20/67. His dad was a radio DJ and that gave him access to huge amounts of LP's. He developed a preference for Rush, Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Iron Maiden, and the Beatles. Self taught on drums. Son Max plays drums too.

If DT really did up their game with that album then they presumably couldn't keep it up as their other albums since don't seem to get many people gushing about them and everything I have heard from them since seems to be a bit bland. Images and Words still sounds as brilliant though as it did when released.

30 years next year - time flies! Calling at Michelle each day to see if it has arrived (this is an old- school record shop in the centre of Hamburg STILL GOING). The songs are still great, and the production is so incredibly crisp. And the quota of cheesy songs is MUCH lower than on later albums - I'm thinking of "Anna Lee", and similar - masterpieces.

Ill never understand music labels... i probably heard dt in the 90s and didnt really notice. I was looking for proggy technical music. Here we had one, and their way of promoting them was to take out all the long technical parts making them seem like just another band. Thank god my bro hooked me up with full albums and whoa! There it is! They tell you "we want you to fit in but stand apart from the rest" and literally chopped out what wouldve set them apart on the radio and mtv lol i wouldve been a fan earlier if they just let them do what they do and didnt chop things down
