Interested to hear people's thoughts on the situation at 4:08. Guy 2 is in a better position to catch the wave, starts paddling earlier and gets to his feet first. Guy 1 is closer to the peak on the inside.

Not sure about it. Guy 2 start to paddle way earlier that guy 1 and actually he stand up first but almost at the same time... Guy 1 has clearly the priority so in theory the wave is for him. Let's see what's the opinion of other people.

The closest to the peak (or behind the peak) person should get the wave. If the wave stayed open the guy in front should have kicked out. Here the wave solved the problem by shutting them both down.

The first guy was obviously going to make the wave so the second guy should have just given it to him. At the end it was just a drop and paddle back to the lineup. Another set is on the way. Don't sweat the small stuff. Enjoy your time in paradise.

He's not in a better position, starting paddling earlier means nothing, if you have good skills and technique you can paddle very late and minimally. Get up earlier because he is on a large volume board. We dont let longboarders take waves because they paddle earlier, and stand up first on the shoulder.
