This is how he started, too. He would walk into some little venue with Steve Took back in the days of Tyrannosaurus Rex, before it became T Rex, dressed like a couple of elvish princes .. they would sit cross-legged and play the most otherworldly sort of music .. and then disappear into the night.

Gifts from the gods, always coming with their risks. Marc is celebrating being gifted, but at the same time expressing its dark-side The loneliness and fear, of being unique. 'Is it strange' he keeps asking\/ as if he's trying to make sense of his strange existence. And that's what makes this a wonderful song, the questioning, the doubt, questioning creativity itself, a gift or a curse. Marc doesn't resolve that question, leaves it open - profound for a rock n roll song, bordering on poetry

I wear my Marc Bolan t-shirt a couple days a week and people ask 'is that Janis Joplin?' etc. And I say, no, it's Marc Bolan, and if you don't know him, he's the man without whom David Bowie or Freddie Mercury would never have existed.
