@@steves1460 A Beard of Stars is my favorite album by Marc. Under all his albums, it comes closest to a solo work (though there were contributions by Steve Took and, later on, by Mickey Finn and of course Tony Visconti). It has an absolutely mystic feel.

This is how he started, too. He would walk into some little venue with Steve Took back in the days of Tyrannosaurus Rex, before it became T Rex, dressed like a couple of elvish princes .. they would sit cross-legged and play the most otherworldly sort of music .. and then disappear into the night.

Reminds me of the gig in Nuremberg (Germany) about a year later ( I was 13 at the time and it was my very first concert), when the crowd yelled " Sit down, sit down" and Marc, with this unforgetable smile of his , replied " Stand up, stand up".

Thank my lucky stars that I was born in '63 and grew up when David, Marc, Stevie, Marvin and so many other amazing musicians were always at the top of the charts. Is it my impression or was there more variety?? Marc had a weekly TV show at teatime in the UK, I recall. 💗

Gifts from the gods, always coming with their risks. Marc is celebrating being gifted, but at the same time expressing its dark-side The loneliness and fear, of being unique. 'Is it strange' he keeps asking\/ as if he's trying to make sense of his strange existence. And that's what makes this a wonderful song, the questioning, the doubt, questioning creativity itself, a gift or a curse. Marc doesn't resolve that question, leaves it open - profound for a rock n roll song, bordering on poetry

A few years ago I was walking around Barnes, where I'd never been before, and I saw some sort of shrine with flowers at the side of the road, I scrambled down a little slope and saw it was a memorial to Marc, the place where he died. David Bowie introduced me to his music, RIP Marc and David, and Lou Reed, the soundtrack to my teenage years

He was just so sweet & had a softness about him that could ignite fire when he plays. I think Marc Bolan and Donovan had similar vocals. I loved him when he first began and have listened to his albums-CD's and now thanks to KZbin I listen to him a lot. Such a tragedy when he died. I saw him live in Victoria BC

Maybe his most gorgeous number? It's a tragedy he isn't more well-known in the US. I wear my Marc Bolan t-shirt a couple days a week and people ask 'is that Janis Joplin?' etc. And I say, no, it's Marc Bolan, and if you don't know him, he's the man without whom David Bowie or Freddie Mercury would never have existed.
