you make it look so easy! nice job...really nice for such a complex piece. as i said to you before, i could not get the weave to remain still in some areas of my mudguard...in the end I skinned it :0( looking forward to the rest of the carbon...you might just inspire me to give it another crack.
@forthebold
@forthebold 3 жыл бұрын
The weave was always an issue and a worry for me at this big of a piece but it went down remarkably well. Obviously the 650gsm was a breeze but the 120 on the cosmetic side still worked ok

The Point with the edges is that you don't apply the peel ply nor the breathing cloth also your vacuum bagging needs some improvements.. ;) Basicly there shouldn't be any bridges, which happens when there is tension in any of the "vacuum-layers" so use cleats for the bag and overlapping layers of peel ply and above this overlapping layers of the breathing cloth.

Carbon fiber is easily "fixed" or "beautified." You can use a light sandpaper or wet sand, then reapply a fresh coat of epoxy. That epoxy can also be sanded before you spray on a nice clear coat. You can do that anytime but it is better within the first 48 hours. Blemishes are easy but do not sand it down too much or else it will be unfixable $$$$$.
@forthebold
@forthebold 3 жыл бұрын
That's it, as long as there's prep work it turns out ok
@alex-thangnguyen2746
@alex-thangnguyen2746 3 жыл бұрын
@@forthebold I tend to refrigerate the epoxy to "thicken" it for 1-4 hours. Also, the amount of hardener can be increased or decreased. Thicker, it is tackier and goes on thick. Epoxy does not smell but temperature does slow it down or speed it up. The instructions usually show you how to do it in an hour. It looks good every single time, never any mistakes or worries.

for me this kind of imperfections is what make the bike unique. I don't want a custom bike to look factory made.

Absolutely agree with that statement.

Okay I just had one question, is this just a cover? Or are you going to make gas tank out of carbon fibre?
@DrLFV
@DrLFV 3 жыл бұрын
Not to speak for him, but rather to reiterate what he explains in earlier videos: The gas tank, seat and tail will be all a monocock carbon fiber piece. What's missing from this one is the bottom side of the tank, which will have to conform to the battery and air box. So to answer your question, no this is not a cover, but rather a work in progress.

No disrespect but the carbon fiber didn't come out even acceptable. Probably you should use some pro workshop where you could cure in under 200 degrees of heat.
@forthebold
@forthebold 3 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree. This is better than expected for a big piece like this. I didn’t want to go prepeg and ovens as it would be someone else doing it. I consider the more someone else does your bike the less of your work it is. This is perfectly acceptable now to paint and clear coat.
