Fanatics Brand Fitted Caps: Pretty good, but one large problem...

Fanatics has offered branded Fitted Caps in both NHL and MLB teams the past couple of years - here is a review of a Winnipeg Jets cap that I picked up recently.

I'm not an NHL fan, and I never seen an NFL, MLB, and NBA Fanatics brand cap that I actually like, so I do not own one. I hope I come across I like both design and quality wise.

I just ordered one online and when it came it took me a few hours to realize how tall it was. I thought I was going crazy but good to know other people see it too😂

I bought a black Dallas stars fitted fanatics and freaking love it. Fits and feels better than any of my 5950s. Bought the same hat as a back up. Also bought a victory green w white logo and it fits and feels perfect as well. Super impressed with fanatics fitted. My decision to double up on the black/white logo paid off as I can’t find any more online or in store. Same with the green state of Texas logo (Dallas stars).

That's good to hear someone got a better fit with one... cap construction was solid, it was just too tall for me, maybe I'll give them another shot.

Jets hat! My home team (choking the season away atm). I picked up three Jets 47 brand fitteds after your past video on 47 fitteds. They are indeed tough to hold a curve. Glossed right over the Fanatics ones. Going to check them out now despite the potential fabric issues.

I am am Edmonton Oilers die hard and while i do have a few 5950 Oilers fitteds, Fanatics hats are by far the most common NHL hat manufacturer these days as they slowly have monopolized NHL merchandise. Their breakaway replica jerseys are maligned by the community but their hats and shirts are actually pretty decent. I have a few fitteds and snapbacks from them that that I wear lots. I actually never noticed the more boxy shape and crown height difference before watching this video! Unfortunately though, if you're an NHL and fitted guy like me, its basically just Fanatics and 47 that will have to do and Fanatics doesnt do a bad job. Some team stores make custom 5950 hats but they are usually quite expensive and limited in selection. As a side note, in my experience, the brims of Fanatics hats require more breaking in to get the curve I personally like when compared to 5950 caps, I definitely prefer NE's brim material.

I can tell from your notes that you are definitely a Fitted guy... and totally agree with your observations on the visor material. I've also thought that MLS might head in a similar direction, since they seem to come and go from New Era and Adidas. Thanks for the comments!

Exactly, the crown height is much taller! I wear a New Era size 7, and now these just look giant on my head. So my fanatics hat just sits in my closet just collecting dust. NHL is by far my favorite sport to watch and now I can’t wear a hat representing my team.

Just found your video and I'm almost regretting my recent order already... I'm usually more of a 39Thirty guy just for the crown shape and hockey 59Fiftys never have the low crown option (I have a round head and like feeling my head covered). I just took advantage of a sale and got a fitted Fanatics Blackhawks hat for $12. I have one flex fit hat from them and it hasn't been a great experience. I wore it twice in the summer and the seam along the bill on both sides is permanently stained from sweat. I'm giving them one more shot before I just drop the money on the few remaining 39Thirtys I can find and call it a day with hat collecting/wearing. As a jersey/sweater collector, I'm not optimistic about Fanatics taking over NHL jerseys completely after seeing their NHL replicas in person and just how they handle MLB jerseys over all.

Yes, it's a shame Fanatics can't deliver better designs and construction with their licensed gear... I've seen some of the blowback just this week on the new MLB uniforms that Nike authorized Fanatics to produce. Thanks for the comments!

It’s a viable alternative. Not sure if you noticed but the NE’s manufactured in Haiti are just really an odd fit. Need to check out the Fanatics brand. Great clip & thanks as always.

It's funny that you mention Haiti, because I really liked the fit of a cap I wore last week and had to do a double-take on the tag when I saw the origin was Haiti. So maybe just the crazy variation we've all come to expect from New Era, since I think I've got another Haiti cap that is too tall for my taste. Great video as always... I'm going to try one of their MLB snapbacks. In the summertime, what types of hats would you recommend? I find the polyester doesn't breathe, so I've tried a few "dri-fit" material hats which are a lot cooler temperature wise. Any you like?

Since the BP/Spring Training fitteds have gone to mesh backs the past couple of years, I've used those and have been happy with the ventilation. 47 has made some caps in what I think they called their "Chill" collection, but it's a thin wicking tech fabric that's probably similar to the Dri-Fit. 47 Truckers with the mesh back are well constructed and well ventilated too, thanks.

Eager for FANATICS to make a fitted cap of my team. I’ve bought some non-fitted FANATICS caps and I’m satisfied with them. Their headbands are consistent- very smoothe & comfortable. Hopefully they’ll get the word on this video and make the necessary changes. #UnitedByCaps #CapOfTheDay

I did not check out that collection when it was available, and looking now at some images it seems that the sweatband is standard polyester. The satin lining definitely looks like what was done with the "MLB Timeline" collection, where it did have that Suede sweatband you are referring to. Thanks for the question!

Apart from the new Twins logo, I'm not aware of any major changes... but I do pay attention to Chris Creamer's sportslogos.net for tracking that sort of thing too. Thanks for the question.

I really enjoy the Fanarics SnapBack I haven’t tried their fitted caps yet. I like New Era as well but the brim is hit or miss sometimes it has this weird broken fold in the middle probably from the brim material being mostly like cardboard. I don’t know if New Era rotates what lies beneath the brim I’ve gotten hats with a strengthened brim and others with flimsy one. I also got a dodgers hat recently to replace my old one. I was annoyed because the under visor was light grey instead of black.

I find that visor fold/crease mostly happens with caps made in Bangladesh - visors from there seem thicker and more difficult to shape for sure (my video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWauqaVte9Vgq5o - explains other Bangladesh made problems). How do you shrink the front of the hat, because so many fitted hats now has a tall front where the team emblem is .. I just want it to fit my head better

It's a question I get a lot, but a tough problem to solve. You can steam it and push it back with your palms to "mold" it to your head shape, but since most of us don't have perfectly round heads, the extra fabric has to go somewhere. Sometimes that fabric becomes folds behind the front two panels, which is not as noticeable as some other defects. I think I show that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3uvd6CBl613jpY

Unfortunately no... the buckram under the front two panels will not shrink, and there's also nowhere to displace that much fabric in the crown.

The Fanatics brand hats run too big, the 59fifty's I wear a 7 3/8 however the fanatics I need a 7 1/4. Kinda frustrating if you are ordering something

They do run a size larger than New Era fitted so if you’re a 7 1/2” New Era you’d be a 7 3/8” in Fanatics fitted. And I completely disagree with the crown height looking weird, though it might be just a little taller it is not noticeable at all and the same for the picture you showed it’s honestly not that noticeable of a difference especially for how nice the hats are and the quality and look are so good it’s completely worth buying them and wearing them. Plus having a hockey logo hat is so much cooler anyway than the baseball logos which are way less cool looking than the hockey teams.
