My blood sugar used to be at 160-190, but it went back to normal during the first 6 months too. also got into running after I lost the excess weight and I've done 3 marathons since then. Antibiotics and Acutane didnt do squat and within 3 months, I stopped breaking out. It seemed like a miracle. Now I am clear. I've been on Keto for 3 years now and have no intention of ever eating high carbs again- the very thing which gave me acne to begin with And as a side effect my monthly cramps lessened tremendously. I used to have really bad, crippling cramps where I had to pop an ibuprofen. Now, my cramps are extremely mild.

@@mntngirl4512 I would never consider going Veganism, but I also don't agree with the derision. If you have an argument of why vegan, vegetarians won't work then present it. From the environmental point of view, farm animals managed correctly will improve the soil. What is at present destroying our land is also the savior to repairing the damage we have done. Joel Salatin and Savory are two that come to mind in the work they have done to restore land. I do understand why some folk cannot contemplate killing animals, it is hard to take a life, but farmed well they live a good life and only have one bad day at the end.

Intermittent fasting 18/6 I do 10,000 steps a day and cut my carbs a lot, but I just don't want to go into ketosis. I also eat organic, healthy, high-quality fat and 100% grass-fed beef and butter. I’ve eliminated all processed sugars, processed carbs, hydrogenated oils and replaced it with healthy fats, veggies, protein, nuts and berries. I’ve lost about 27 pounds in over a month and a half. I feel great, my mind is clear my energy levels are up and sleep well. When I was feeding my body junk food I didn’t feel good at all. The system wants us to be addicted to their sugary processed unhealthy foods. I’m not going back to the old way of eating junk food. I no longer have sugar cravings or crave any processed carbs. Just turned 70. GP said my cholesterol and blood sugar levels were elevated. Put me on statins. I then began following Dr Ekberg Keto recommendations for the last two month and I have lost 7 kg ( 87kg to 89kg ) with very little effort. Have increased my high fat foods, ( olive oil on everything, full fat organic milk instead of low fat milk etc.), reduced my wheat based foods, reduced fruits and increased vegetable and cut out all sugary foods like chocolate and sweet biscuits. ( Did not drink soft drink or eat ice cream before ). Never feel hungry. After a large keto breakfast this morning I missed lunch and just had a cup of peppermint tea instead. Not only do I have more energy, I also feel much brighter mentally. So does eating more saturated fats rather than eating less fat help you loose weight and make you healthier? Sure does! PS. Stopped taking the statins last week.

You allude to this in the end and I think it is worth emphasizing. We can still eat carbs and lose weight. I have lost weight by doing 3 things: 1) dramatically cutting sugar and alcohol, 2) skipping breakfast every day and 3) go out for 40 minutes (at least) walk every day. When I eat, I still eat potato, pasta and cake occasionally. I also fixed my sleep apneas. It is not Earth shattering life changes, but, combined, they are getting me back on track to slow (~ 2kg lost per month) but steady weight loss. BP is down as well. Thanks for your work to educate people on metabolic science. This should be taught in school!

Dr. Ekberg you're the best! This is the greatest explanation ever! I'm a 63 year old woman, and in 7 days I'll be 64. I'm 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighed 115 pounds before my diet. I've been type 2 diabetic for the past 18 years, 16 of which I was on Glucophage pills. Only 6 months ago I was taking 2000 mg Glucophage daily. I put myself on a low-fat low-carb diet and lost 17 pounds; I was already very slender, and had no weight to lose; now am very skinny with 98 pounds. I'm consuming many types of nuts, seeds, and lots of steamed vegetables. Every day I drink smoothies that were made with few fruits, lots of greens and vegetables. I eat chicken, eggs, lamb, and most seafood, and I drink lots of water. I'm very happy because I was able to stopped the Glucophage pills that I had been taking for the past 16 years, but I need to put on a little weight. Dr. Ekberg, please sir, can you give me some advice on how to safely put back on my 17 pounds, or at least 10. Thank you sir and God bless.

Point of clarification. The body will not utilize fats simply because they are more abundant in your diet than carbohydrates; unless you have depleted your glycogen stores, which means that you are eating 5% or less of your total calories in the form of carbohydrates. This is a critical point, and the primary reason for practicing a ketogenic diet rather than a "balanced" diet. The objective is to condition the body to utilize stored body fat as a fuel source. This depends upon the mitochondrial machinery being in place, and the body will only build that machinery when it is necessary to do so. This is why there is a fat adaptation period when adopting a ketogenic diet.

@ivermec-tin666
@ivermec-tin666 6 жыл бұрын
@@MrDavidknigge Was there a question? Where did I lose you? The point is this: the body will handle fuel in this order, in descending order of priority; 1) alcohol, 2) glucose, 3) carbohydrates, 4) fats. Fats will be tapped as energy stores only after the first 3 categories have been fully depleted. This is why combining sugar and fat in the same meal is unhealthy. This is why keto is fundamentally different from a "balanced" diet.
@drekberg
@drekberg 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your clarification. You are making some very good points, and I would completely agree with the fact that the body will not burn much fat in the presence of carbohydrate and insulin. However, it always burns a mixture of all fuel. You don't have to completely deplete the stores of carbohydrate before you burn fat it is just that insulin heavily/strongly pushes the balance toward fat storage rather than fat burning. I completely agree that sugar and fat together is a very bad combination. That is why it is such a joke when they do a study, by cutting carbs from 400 grams to 200 grams calling it a "low carb" diet and concluding you don't lose weight on low carb.

However, my only complain about it is that there’s a very limited allowed fruits and veggies to eat. I love fruits I grew up with that has high in sugar like mangoes and pineapple. Once I reach my goal weight, I would like to go on a healthier diet with no food restriction. I would stay on low carb and sugar as possible and have portion control. I hope this would work for me. We both have more energy and our moods have improved. I've tried a lot of things, including anti-anxiety medications, but didn't like the side effects. Finally, we have found a way of life that is healthy for us. It's not hard to stick to it, because we feel full and satisfied, thanks to avocados, olive oil, coconut oil, nuts, cheese, fish etc. I tried making a chocolate cake using stevia, but we didn't even really want to eat anything that tasted sweet. Sugar cravings go away quickly. And a good night's sleep has no price.

Do your research! Thousands if not millions of people are off all of their medications after committing to a ketogenic lifestyle, including myself. If you are considering keto, don't let the opinions of others deter you. If you commit for just 2-3 weeks, the increased energy levels, reduced appetite, weight loss, and mental clarity will give you all the justification you need. Let the results speak for themselves!

I do better on keto, but to your point, I still have two hangups: 1) research from older days that showed that saturated fat in the diet could be measured in the blood and presumably deposited in the veins within hours of consumption. 2) more recent studies by neuro scientists stating that saturated fat impairs the brain's capacity to create new neurons. I would be so appreciative if you addressed these two. Thanks!
