My Mom was diagnosed with early onset dementia at 64. She did have habits that probably contributed. Her stress was always high, long time smoker, she ate a lot of processed food and she never exercised. We started noticing signs long before diagnosed. Usually we noticed socially inappropriate behavior the most. It's been 3 years and she has deteriorated so much and is in memory care now. It's a heartbreaking disease watching someone you love slowly slip away. My husband and I have tried to adjust our lifestyle to hopefully reduce our health risks. We both run competitive trail racing(18-33 miles), lift heavy weights, eat whole foods, practice intermittent fasting and work to manage stress in healthy ways. No smoking or drinking. I love learning more and videos like this are so appreciated! I have 5 young children (all under 12 years). I want to be fit and healthy for them as long as possible.

No pain in my body at all, and much better abled to function properly at my job. Good stuff!

I do what I refer to as my Wild Woodland Walk and Workout. Essentially I utilise the topography of a local country park which is centred around a small loch as an outside gym. For example, benches for press ups, sprints up steep braes and cut timber as lifting weights. It also has the added benefits of being outside and alongside nature, which is a physiological and psychological bonus.

My dad was driving fine at 80, even at night, going places with mom & enjoying life. He ended up going to the ER with a hip fracture & infection to his hip replacement and went thru a long surgery. A week later, he had another big surgery. He was never the same after and developed dementia and passed a 1.5 yr later. I really believe those 2 long operations so close together were what caused his dementia. Yea, I know he was old, but he was doing great before everything happened. I truely think he wouldn't have gotten dementia if it weren't for those 2 surgeries.

Your parents (all of them) had a subtle "hidden" health troubles i.e. inflamations all over but in a state of compansation and can do well in the normal situations under proper circumstances, but once exposed a major stressful condition like severe injury, major surgery or significant medical or psychological problem decompansation occurs and the body fails partially or totally. Therefore everyone should build a reserve as big as possible for these conditions and get used to repeated acute stresses for shorter periods during the whole life like training and fasting.

Most elderly people have problems getting up off the floor. As a child you spend a lot of time on the floor, adults do not. Doing yoga / stretching exercises on the floor can improve balance, mobility, flexibility and the ability to get up and down.. Just getting up and down to the floor in a controlled manner is difficult for many older adults. Play with your children on the floor. Bend over, get down and pull weeds in your garden. Play with a pet on the floor. The more effort you make to work on balance and flexibility will pay dividends as you age.

I can definitely relate to that feeling when fruit just doesn’t taste as sweet anymore. It makes me wonder if cutting back on sugar would actually make things taste better in the long run. Thanks for this eye-opener-I'm definitely going to rethink my sugar intake!

Doctor. Is there any research about correlation between. Autoimmune diseases and dementia progression
@KrisP4084 күн бұрын
I believe so. Some dementia are associated with a build up of bad bacteria like Alzheimer's. And this is also associated with autoimmune disease, as the body reacts to it. Sorting out the imbalance of bacteria may well help.

Thank you so much, Doctor Sten. I also saw your video about the acid reflux but would really love to know more about gastritis and what can be done to improve gut health under that condition or at least make it bearable... I am deeply grateful for all you hard work and investigation and wish everyone would see all this useful information. Thank you

Most of the issues I have are arthritis issues in hands and knees.... thus many of the issues... but not tremors.... and only bumping into things due to not seeing them in the dark.

I had a lot of these symptoms as a child. I was clumsy and unaware of things. My mom has dementia and I heard that caregivers are likely to develop this also. I have always been mentally slow to understand. I have improved with age, but I get depressed over where life seems to be going. My great aunt told my mom that people used to care about others. I also heard of a microbe that we used to consume that improved moods and we be more relaxed. I saw in on the KZbin channel Mary's nest. I want to make the yogurt she said gave us better mood, but I an under a lot of pressure. If I ordered it and was able to make it doesn't mean it would be eaten. I guess you can say I've lost motivation, hope or both! 😔😪

One thing I do is just go out and run sprint intervals for 10 to 15 minutes. You feel so good and brain gets refreshed. Definitely recommend if you can.

People who have arthritis have trouble with fine motor skills. My joints are fused. Try using your fine motor skills with fused joints. That doesn't mean I have dementia.

#1 sign of dementia. You eat American carb, sugar and vegetable heavy meals 3-4 times a day. Your glucose is always elevated. It should be way below 120-130 most of the day. A1C should be 5.5 or lower. Target is 5.0 -avg 100 blood glucose. Your body is inflamed and have aches and pains. This is not normal aging guys. Mine is gone after a month on keto and am now doing carnivore because vegetables make me depressed.

I'm screwed and I'm only in my 30s. Slurred speech sometimes like I have to really put effort not to slur sometimes, depression and anxiety, irritated, poor sleep, withdrawn from people for the most part or at least feel disconnected, forgetting passwords sometimes. The only thing I got going for me is the gym. The only time I'm happy and live in the present is when I'm working out.

@ I think my issues are circumstantial because I live in a very toxic home but I have no choice because I take care of my dad. My parents are depending on me financially. So maybe all these symptoms are from me being stressed and sad all the time.

Hi Dr Sten. I was wondering what you know about vitamin B12, B6 and folate in breaking down homocysteine in the liver? Also, the function of vitamin B12 to combat the ageing process, as 20% of over 60s are deficient.
@drekberg4 күн бұрын
Thank You @LaraClahane. I know quite a bit actually. We've been testing homocysteine on all our blood panels for years. My next supplement will be for that. 😄
@dianabezold59543 күн бұрын
My homocysteine level was high until i started taking methylated B vitamins. Will your supplement be for this? Thanks and i enjoy your videos! @drekberg
@LaraClahane3 күн бұрын
@drekberg I'm just trying to understand if vitamin B12 deficiency is a cause or a symptom of non alcoholic fatty liver disease, LDL cholesterol et al. If the answer for the elderly is not statins, but grass fed meat and oily fish. My mum went downhill as soon as she was put on statins. She was vegetarian, though was encouraged to eat more fish laterly. She was diagnosed with vitamin B12 deficiency, but it was only treated with pills. I subsequently have needed injections, so a genetic component. Just trying to get my head round it all and the right extra supplements and foods to combat chronic fatigue. B12 deficiency was flagged in my teenage years, but like many folk find, I'm sure you know about Sally Pacholok's work, care was inconsistent, and my understanding confused.
@LaraClahane3 күн бұрын
@dianabezold5954 I was over a year into B12 injections before I understood folate, that is a vital pairing to B12, should be taken as l-methylfolate or folonic acid, NOT synthetic folic acid, which in some cases can be counterproductive.
