That was my Dad's motto, when ever he was teaching me how to use a tool. Thank you for bringing back good memories, I lost my Dad in 2009 to Cancer. Plus I have been using what I have learned from your channel, to mod my own computer case. God Bless You!!!!

@SaiE8 4-1/2 hole saw and that should be able to cut through a case (I believe but I could wrong) remember if it is steel you want to use some form of lubricant on the blade.

Thanks so much for this video. I recently got my first Dremel, a 4000-65 set (corded 130W) and last night I used your technique to cut a large hole for a 12cm fan in an aluminium case for an AC-DC power supply. Took a while but I am quite pleased! I have two questions if you have a moment: 1) what is your recommendation for speed setting? I was unsure about that. I started around 10K and ended up around 20K, but I was at first nervous because it was generating a lot of sparks! But I think the higher speed definitely worked better in the end. I could have gone to 30K though, and am not sure what the ideal setting is (or what decides the ideal setting.) Secondly, regarding hole saws: I already have a couple of decent power drills and one comes with a couple of small hole saws and an adapter. So can I just buy a few more hole saws - "bi-metal" I think I need? - and cut easily into aluminium? Any special things I need to know about doing that? I didn't see any as large as the 11cm (4.5") I needed for my first circle, but maybe they do exist if I keep looking (and besides, I don't expect to need to do such a large circle that often again.) Thanks again for all your great advice!

Good information! Perhaps you may use a piece of 150 or 220 grit sand paper to smooth the edge of your cut. My 2 cents.

To make neat circle cuts one could use the "Dremel Circle Cutter & Straight Edge Guide - 678-01". It's only about $15 and can do circles from 1.9cm-30 cm (3/4" -12"). Very neat.

I just bought a cheap jobmate rotary tool. I was testing it out, trying to cut through a panel of an old computer. Sparks started flying, the smell of burnt metal, and I barely even scratched the panel. Did I do something wrong? I actually had to apply force to even scratch the case.

I know this video is old but I have cut steel with my dremel stylus. It is fantastic. I sold my 300 and 400 after getting the stylus. It is fantastic. Holds a powerful charge all the way til the very end. Now if your going to be doing hours of continuous work get a cord. but I set my stylus on the charger in between use and I can cut case steel for hours. and that battery doesnt die from constant charge. it says so in the manual.

The dremel was cheaper!

So a dremel can be used to make the whole window in case of not having a jigsaw? because with the curve technique (which is really useful) the rounded corners can be made. Or is there a reason for not using a dremel for the whole window and get a jigsaw instead (other than being easier)?

I have a dremel (cordless :( ) and a case I want to mod the motherboard mounting plate to put an oval hole for cable management in (and possibly others, for CPU cooling; it's an old Chenming/Antec 601 case). I want to make the hole oval, to fit the oval cable grommet you folks sell; how do I go about that? Note: I'm on a near-zero budget (hence starting to mod this case rather than just buying a new one).

With this video I dived into the deep end and used a dremel for the first time, I got a pritty good circle and the use of the tape was a life saver, still made a mess and broke all 5 cutting discs but it got the job done. Though the cutting blades didn't cut through metal case on my xbox 360.

This may be a dumb question, but: when you show the smaller dremel cutting wheels, do you buy those or are those left over from bigger original cutting wheels? I want to cut a 1/4" square for a USB-B port in my computer case, but the 1-1/4" dremel wheels seem to be way too big for that small a cut. Do smaller 1/4" cutting wheels exist?
@zsk5386
@zsk5386 11 жыл бұрын
This may be another dumb question but why do we even need to use a dremel? Is there any kind of cutting wheel that I can just attach to a drill? They both spin so I don't really understand the difference.

a good drill is built for torque it runs at 700 to 3000 rpm a dremel (or similar) hand grinding motors run up to 30,000 rpm at a lower torque the extra speed gives stability and control taking tens of thousands of "tiny bites" of the material a reinforced cutoff wheel can cut through a hardened lock in moments and produce fine cuts a millimeter wide like lace work you were cutting for a usb type b the square one (actually 5 sided) i would drill a 1/4 hole and file it to shape
@jeasterl
@jeasterl 11 жыл бұрын
there are smaller emery wheels about 3/4 inch they are not reinforced so they will not take any twist and will shatter but they are cheap after you cut the long lines (the disk will have worn to a smaller diameter) carefully cut from the back side and you should get a clean rectangle use a small file to clean the edges

These are handy tools, but I think they're a bit over rated. I modded my Antec 300 (window, cable management slots, fan grille mods) using a 4" cut-off, a drill and hand files. Regardless I bought the Dremel 400 Digital /after/ I'd finished.
