Matt, here's a tip/trick I learned years ago when 1st beginning to do glasscraft. To avoid that chipping you get on the inside of the bottle fill it w/water & use a cork stopper, drill as you did just now. the water pressure on the inside will not only avoid the chipping, it will also mitigate any cracking or breaking of the glass as you bore through on the other side.

I am a small hobbyist. I work with very small cut gems. This would be absolutely perfect for me. I have had my Dremel for over 15 years! Still working and clean. I need so many of these tools to help me in my little Woodshop and Jewelry. Yes I make doll houses out of thin red cedar planks. But I need something that will work for both! I wish Dremel would come out with a 360 degree small pin vise! I have quite a bit of money in my dremel tools. With the cost of some of their bits, sanding discs, and accessories, it also allows me to use Carbide bits, Diamond bits, CNC Diamond bits! I live in a Dremel World and I'm proud of it!

When cutting glass, some put a ring of plumber's putty around where they are cutting the hole, then fill it with water/oil so there is a constant reservoir of coolant/lubricant. Saves on having to keep squirting water and potentially running out.

I'm new to Dremels, but this thing has been great. kzbin.infoUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR The variable speed is awesome and the cordless aspect makes it so easy to work with. I am constantly finding uses for it that make tasks easier. Recently I put in a new deadbolt on one of our doors. I knew I had to enlarge the hold where the deadbolt goes into the door frame. At first I thought I would have to get a big router and figure out how to use it for that, but then I rermembered we have the dremel. I was able to enlarge the hole almost as easy as if I was drawing with a pen. It's also great for grinding our dog's nails done and so many other household tasks.

Something that is nice to have around to keep things in place... Like the glass tray on the Dremel base and the glass bottle in the glass tray... Is a router mat for keeping wood from moving around when routing, or... If you are cheap, like me, they make a rubberized shelf liner that you can pick up at Dollar (and a quarter) tree, 4' x 11" Works great and provides friction when you need it! I keep a roll in the car to put between boards when strapping on the roof rack and makes a nice cheap throw-away tool box liner.

I don’t have a Dremel rotary tool, I have a 170w VonHaus which has served me well so far and relative to my other tools has had some pretty heavy use. However, I always use Dremel bits and accessories, with the exception of my flexi cable, but the best of all my Dremel bits and bats is the drill press. I have the wood and metal drill bits (Dremel) and a press vice, which allows me to write on brass plate for my photograph frames. Eventually I’d like to be able to do a little carving on my frames also. Great video, I like your manner and the way of explaining things, well worth a subscribe.

I bought one of those stands years ago. It worked for the Dremel at the time,..BUT,... not for any Dremel I've bought since, and I own several Dremels. Dremel changes the design and shape of the Dremels frequently, and the accessories are built for only certain models. Once that model is no longer available, your accessory becomes obsolete.
@wendyhoechstetter32365 жыл бұрын
That's a serious bummer! I have several very old (10+ years) Dremels, and I do not want to have to buy another one. I was figuring I'd need a new flex cord, but it sounds like I might even have trouble with that...?

Great video. I have found that Windex works a little better than water as a cutting oil. I even use it on my regular press when drilling metal and on sandpaper or stones when sharpening tools. I sound like a Windex commercial. Sorry.
@MattHeere8 жыл бұрын
You're right about that. I use glass cleaner when I sharpen as well and it does work better. I use water when cutting glass like this only because you need a continuous stream of fluid, and I'm too cheap to blow through that much glass cleaner as well as too lazy to put the cleaner in an appropriate bottle :)

@MattHeere8 жыл бұрын
+leylandbobby Well a Dremel will definitely make the cut, but getting it even will be tough. You'll probably want to pick up the kit they sell to turn a Dremel into a drywall "zip saw". It has a base that threads onto the front of the dremel and controls the depth of cut.

i've had mine for a little over 2 years, and i find all kinds uf uses for it, originally , i got it for drilling into electric guitars, they ar too odd a shape to get under a drill press comfortably, (at least one i could afford), and this thing can be set up so that you can plunge through the base into a guitar, or whatever else you may need a whole in, it also moves 90dg, and spinsaround the tube, so if your pushing it, it could be a half assed laith, a diagonal hole cutter, kinda like the plunge base that harbour frieght sells , but better built, i love this thing, i just checy the tube now and again to see if anyone came up with new hacks for it

Quick question: not too wobbly because holder is made of plastic?
@HeadFlowInc9 жыл бұрын
1/4" adapter to hold tiny bits would work on the drill press.
@1pcfred9 жыл бұрын
+HeadFlowInc Yes but your peripheral surface speed would still be too slow to efficiently use smaller diameter drill bits. The smaller diameter the bit, the faster you need to spin it, for the cutting edge to maintain the same speed. A sixteenth of an inch is about as small as you want to go, when your drill press only goes 3850 RPM. Which is fine for most folks. But if you actually do need to drill smaller holes then you need to use a tool with higher RPM than most drill presses can manage.
@HeadFlowInc9 жыл бұрын
+Paul Frederick Math can be fun, try to determine what method is used by the drill press manufacturer to calculate speeds. In the same way a smaller diameter tire effects it's turning rotations per MPH the smaller the drill bit size should incrementally increase it's RPM. Does this theory sound legit?
@1pcfred9 жыл бұрын
HeadFlowInc I know the peripheral speed formula. It is (PI x DIA. x RPM) / 12 = SFPM (Surface Feet Per Minute)
@HeadFlowInc9 жыл бұрын
+Paul Frederick So (2.14 x .125 x 3850) = 1029..875 rpm. Interesting how counterintuitive that formula appears to be. I'm still not catching how the tiny drill bit would turn slower than the drill assembly?
@1pcfred9 жыл бұрын
HeadFlowInc PI = 3.1415927 The drill turns the same RPM, but the outer surface speed is slower, the smaller the diameter is. Conversely the larger the diameter, the more surface goes by per rotation. This adds up to a higher peripheral surface speed than a smaller diameter drill bit has.

If your tool has lost its hanging clip, you can make another one from a couple of cable ties - use one tie to hold another tie tight around the base of the cord, then set the second tie into a loop and cut the end so it stays that size. Works fine.
