Any normal corded or cordless Dremel (maybe not the really low-power engravers or tiny battery powered one) will have the collar that removes to reveal that thread. This thread has been a standard interface for Dremel accessories (Drill press stand, router base, 90deg adapter, flex shaft, chainsaw sharpener, etc) for decades, going back at least to the 1970s if not earlier. Most Dremel clones use the same thread as well.

Watch the next video. The true potential of this comes in using it in conjunction with Matthias's Big Print program. You may be able to get a little closer (not much though!) by making casts of the original parts (but what a lot of work!) but this system and Big Print can do way more and way easier. Apologies to Matthias who has been resisting my pushing to "push" Big Print.
@JoeGP11 жыл бұрын
so will you be doing some inlay videos ? i'd love to see some, it's amazing what some people can do with it
@matthiaswandel11 жыл бұрын
Acrually, a casting would not have worked for that part. The points are sharper than the tool, so you HAVE to go outside a bit to carve out the points. If you go with the casting method, you can't fit a part like that (unless you hand-rework the cavity with a small chisel afterwards).

Have you ever considered mounting a Dremel on a pantorouter to experiment with smaller joints? Or for that matter what about making a miniature pantorouter? If anything it would be a fun novelty to have in the family of pantorouters.
@marcoschwanenberger31275 жыл бұрын
Haha I can just imagine a pantorouter so small that you can make furniture for doll houses with it! Might actually be a really nice addition to such a hobby, making every piece of furniture in there with proper wooden joints, just tiny!

Cool, another neat project. Here's a challenge. A 1:1 mirror image pantograph. I want to make foam wings (insulation foam) and foam scaled hulls. I can shape one side by hand no problem, but then I'd like to get an opposite-symmetrical wing for the other side. I'd like to be able to run a guide along the original wing and carve the opposite side wing. (xy, but z vertical only--meaning the underside of the wing isn't needed--it's a 3d relief problem, not full 3d) A symmetrical hull is a different problem. With the wing, the second wing can be anywhere. With a hull model (12"-24" long) ideally they are very close together--though gluing two halves wouldn't be a problem.

Poor Canada, so cold, yet so close to the U.S. and the lumber standards we impose on all those Canadian trees. (just kidding) I've all those fractions in my head, decimal equivalents.... I tried to make my shop mostly metric, but there are just too many inches left in the world and they are all here.... Betcha don't know that the official U.S. Government definition of the inch, foot, yard, mile, is based on ... you guessed it: the meter!

Let you imagination fly, noone said it's an advantage. I guess it's to be able to use completely different router bits/grinding tools, maybe to engrave glass for example. There are also dremel router bits, that are much smaller than regular router bits, very uselful for fine inlays aso.

You said the Dremel would work with a 56mm hole and so you set your compass to 26mm. Did you say the wrong number or did you want a 52mm wide hole so it held the Dremel more securely?
@RealGaryBall11 жыл бұрын
Matthias did you think of using the flex shaft attachment for a multi tool? That way it wouldn't tie up your Dremel permanently. (Or would the flex shaft hold up to those stresses? )

I am in agreement and like it when we are precise. Not everybody cares though and in this case, most people will know what kind of tool he is talking about even if he uses a brand name from a reputable company to describe a Craftsman multi-function tool.

Will this new design work for a Dremel 4000? What about the Dremel flex shaft? Also, can this pantograph be configured to use a 4:1 ratio rather than 2:1 or 3:1?
@matthiaswandel3 жыл бұрын
Should fit, might need a different shaped hole for the top layer. Could probably be modified for 4:1, though range of motion becomes an issue then.
