Dr Berg notes: Too much iron over time can cause iron accumulation in your organs and tissues. Some people have a genetic problem that makes it difficult to eliminate iron if it accumulates too much. Potential side effects of too much iron include the following: 1. Cancer 2. Liver disease 3. Heart disease 4. Low testosterone 5. Low libido 6. Diabetes 7. Chronic fatigue syndrome 8. Infertility 9. Neurodegeneration 10. Inflammatory diseases Iron deficiency is one of the most common mineral deficiencies, but iron can also be dangerous if you’re getting too much. Iron toxicity is one of the most underdiagnosed and overlooked conditions. When you take iron supplements, you don't absorb very much. The excess iron accumulates in the digestive tract, causing constipation, nausea, diarrhea, bloating, and irritation of the colon. The type of iron in iron supplements feeds pathogens. Red meat is a better source of iron. Heme iron from red meat and fish is absorbed much more easily. It goes straight into the bloodstream. Red meat also has other nutrients like B vitamins, zinc, and selenium. High-quality protein also helps to balance iron. Many processed foods contain added iron in the forms of ferrous fumarate, ferrous sulfate, and ferrous gluconate. The most common sources of iron are supplements, fortification, and cooking with cast iron cookware. Liver damage will also cause you to accumulate iron. A lack of copper is a common cause of dysfunctional iron because copper helps control iron in the body. Many enzymes dependent on copper relate directly to the control of iron. The first enzyme involved with copper converts iron into a less accumulative and less toxic form. Copper also allows you to transport iron through the body. Copper is involved in a powerful antioxidant that reduces oxidation caused by iron! Glyphosate, antibiotics, high fructose corn syrup, and wheat products can cause copper deficiency. Iron deficiency anemia may really be iron dysfunctional anemia, which is often related to a copper deficiency. Oysters, shellfish, and organ meats are the best food sources of copper. Thank you Dr Berg! 😺👍

better research every medical advice given on the internet before you go on to do what they suggest because it may not be right for you. Visit websites like the Mayo Clinic and many other medical information sites which are well known for their research. Most of all see a doctor and do some serious blood workup. Since taking a quality liquid iron supplement I'm no longer anemic or feel tired all the time, and I get no more miserable headaches I used to get from taking tablet form of iron, that form of iron should be banned!

Thank you Eric Berg for your very good advice. I would have a suggestion for those like me who have had a gastric bypass surgery. In my case, I can’t absorb iron from food anymore, even from black pudding (meat and blood pork). I take a 25 mg chewable fumarate iron tablet (4x a week on an empty stomac) and that works for me. The other iron forms can’t improve my ferritin levels at all. However, I was still getting a lot of problems from my iron supplementation: always sick, always bacterial infections!! (urinary tract infections/ SIBO, etc) that I could badly heal with antibiotics. I got an infection almost every months. I made a few changes: 1. Taking my iron supplément 4 times a week, instead of everyday 2. Adding a cranberry complex 2 capsules a day (with d-mannose, ginger and vitamin C) 3. Adding the following probiotics to my diet as the classic bifidobacteria and lactobacilobacteria strains did nothing for me! So, I take: -L REUTERI 5 billion CFU a day -S Boulardii+ B Coagulans+B Subtilis+B Clausii 25 billion CFU a day Bonus tips: I highly recommend fois gras (goose liver) to get easlily available forms of copper and vitamin A. Vitamin A, copper and iron work indeed closely together. To get even more vitamin A, I take daily a good brand of cod liver oil with 5000 IU of vitamin A per serving.

Yes, I agree you can be iron intolerant just like many people are intolerant to milk, however, many people cannot be without an iron supplement because they continue to have anemia. I am iron intolerant, I DO NOT EAT MEAT, there are other ways via food to get your iron, but you cannot be sure via food that you get it daily or that you are getting enough. I don't feel you should recommend eating meat since many people cannot afford to eat top quality meats, too expensive. I recommend to anyone who has anemia or other issues due to lack of iron in there system, to absolutely consider a liquid supplement of iron, and what I would recommend is the German made Floradix by Salus, gluten free, not cheap but worth every drop. Ever since taking this excellent quality liquid supplement my blood test results no longer show that I am anemic or even borderline anemic.

Like he says, eat red meat and iron rich foods to boost it up. Natural forms of iron are the best. Never buy a stand alone iron supplement they are all harsh on the body (notice how all iron supplements come in bottles with childlock? Because one tablet can kill an infant, says enough), make sure it is natural and comes along with copper, vit c and sometimes also B12 (as metylcobalmine, never the cyano version).

The form of iron is the cuprit. Iron salts like fumarate or sulfate and gluconate are poorly absorbed. The iron form you want is Ferrochel, ferrous bisglycinate chelate and it's a di-peptide iron product, not an iron salt. This is a gentile iron, gentle on the stomach and safe to use. Ferrochel is a smart iron and the once the cell is loaded the balance is released from the body by passive digestion. The RDI is 11 mg for children 1-3, 18 mg for adults and children and 27 mg for pregnant & lactating women. Dr. Berg needs to learn about Ferrochel, which is also used around the world in food fortification and supported by UNICEF and WHO. Children that are anemic need a liquid iron supplement to enhance ferritin levels. Ferrochel is found in liquid iron supplements.

Having a hysterectomy can cause more problems due to no estrogen being produced once the uterus is taken out. Doctors often do not mention that and discuss or suggest HRT and how it can take over a year to recover from the operation. Lower estrogen levels in the body for women can increase heart problems and clotting issues, so be very cautious about having a hysterectomy. If you are offered other outpatient treatment where they do not take your uterus out, then that might be better for you, if thry offer that with the size of your fibroid. Vitamin D can play a huge part in fibroids growing too. I was vitamin D deficient for a long time and didn't realise until I started getting heart problems. I have a fibroid but am near menopausal age now, so prefer to leave it alone and see whether it shrinks naturally.
