If I want to get top mark at Badminton, I have to start focussing on my dressage. And who better to help me than the infamous Ferdi Eilberg!!
The Eilberg family is well known in the equestrian world, with several members achieving great success in dressage. Ferdi Eilberg, the patriarch of the family, is a highly respected dressage trainer and has produced several top-level horses and riders over the years.
Ferdi has trained many riders, including his son Michael Eilberg who represented Great Britain in the 2012 Olympic Games, as well as Carl Hester who has won numerous international titles and competed in several Olympic Games.
In addition to their successful training business, the Eilberg family also breeds top-quality dressage horses. Their breeding program has produced several successful horses, including the mare Half Moon Delphi, who was ridden by Michael Eilberg to win team gold at the 2011 European Dressage Championships.
When I arrived at the Eilberg's yard, I was greeted by Ferdi himself, who took me for a tour of the facilities. The yard was seriously impressive, with spacious stables and an indoor and outdoor arena I could only dream of!
During the lesson, Ferdi's expertise and attention to detail were evident. He was able to quickly identify areas where Dee and I needed improvement and provided clear instructions on how to make the necessary adjustments. So let's see what one of the top dressage riders in the world has to say about my riding...

I really love his way of teaching, he tells you what’s wrong and what needs to happen and let’s you fix it and find the right answer yourself without micromanaging your riding and he works on what’s wrong step by step rather than all at once. There’s certainly a lot of trainers who just pile everything wrong onto you at once and you have to fix it at once while they are yelling at you 😂. I love his dressage philosophy as well

Love these training videos with experts. I liked his advice to give discipline in a way that instills clarity and calm. You could see Dee testing you and pushing back- trying to get her own way but you insisted and eventually she gave in and did what you wanted. Something to think about as you train on your own. Reminds me of parents who only want to be friends with their kids so no discipline or boundaries- this is actually stressful for children as just like he said, proper kind discipline is a good thing- horses need and want leadership! Keep up the good work.

I love how he said that nearly good is nothing else but bad. It is so easy to become complacent and just take "good enough," when in reality "good enough" is not enough and we always need to strive for more. Lovely job Meg ❤

Brought her quarters down visibly doing those exercises! Your tests are normally lovely, competent but that bit of polish could make all the difference in the scores. And that extra level of understanding your horse will follow through to help with the jumping too, so win, win all round :)

It is so interesting to see DD, who knows you so extremely well, react to the small changes. She definitely realizes that you have changed the parameters of what you’re doing, and she gives you exactly what you ask for. If you ask wrong, she gives it wrong. This reminds me greatly of my former horse. He would gladly do something wrong all day, but once I figured out that I was the one asking for it wrong, and I changed, he happily changed to doing it right. It was all me, not him at all.

I bet you and Dee had good sleeps that night! Such intense, hard work. It really paid off though in terms of improvement and you both did really well. You are looking very competitive. Your channel is so full of high quality, correct education and I really appreciate it. Thanks so much for sharing! Also, loved your walking/talking intro; your channel just keeps getting more and more slick and professional! (If that was Pete behind the camera, well done Pete!) (Also, you've got to love a German compliment; "It is looking very possible!" Haha, my Dad's half German, so I know that that's actually high praise!)

Excellent video as usual. I really like the way he talks about Dee Dee being who and what she it but not forcing her into something she's not. Changing the subject for a minute though, I was wondering if you have ever watched Elisa Wallace Eventing videos, she is in the states but I really like the way she trains and works with her horses, she also trains the mustangs. Just thought you might like to give her a look see. Can't wait for Badminton. ❤❤

It really goes to show how difficult judging dressage is, I've literally been riding for 20 years and I could barely see the difference between "good" canter and "bad" canter, its so subtle from the ground and you have to be able to feel it. But once it clicks and it's correct, it looks SO good!

Whatever you do, maths, riding, music or whatever is always buildt on your basics/foundation. The better your foundation, the better whatever you build on top of it. You will struggle to build a straight house on a croooked foundation. The flatter and more polished your foundation is, the easier it is to build on. Allways start by polishing and mastering the basics, because everything else depends on it!
