2009, 2011 and 2013 all could be argued he had MVP seasons. But to be snubbed in 2011, and especially 2009 speaks to how the MVP award is a popularity contest. 2009 he was a machine. Call it sheer will. The year he was so zoned in he accepted nothing less than perfectionism. The same year he became nationally recognized for his accuracy and his IQ. 2009 to 2013 he was so zoned in also he just had defenses pegged. We can always use what if’s or excuses, but I think we can all agree had the Saints put a solid defense across from Brees we could all argue the NFL “legend” conversation could be very very different. Sean Payton and Drew Brees was the best offensive combination in NFL history in my opinion. They weren’t perfect, but they’re ability to strike fast, really fast, was something to behold. Year after year.

Brees wasn't flashy, but true football fans realize his FUNDAMENTALS (accuracy, reading defenses, top shelf leadership) made him overcome the lack of amazing running ability or super strong arm. I have been a die hard Saints fan since 1969 - and even though I loved Archie Manning as a kid, he never had any blocking & it was decades with some pretty bad QBs and TWO Billy Joes (I'm not kidding) but when we got Brees I was happy but had no idea he would become the Hall of Fame player he was & bring so many winning seasons to the Big Easy let alone that incredible Super Bowl win in 2009! Thanks for so many great memories, Drew! GEAUX SAINTS!

IMO, the greatest passer I ever watched personally. For him to have 4 5,000 yard passing seasons is insane. IMO, he is the greatest player in Saints history.

A warrior through and through. I’m glad he got his ring and brought a championship to the city of New Orleans when they needed it most. There are somethings that are above rivalry.

I first started watching football in 2009. Growing up and still living in louisiana I became a saints fan. I got to watch him win the super bowl as a kid and at that moment, he became my hero. I can never see the saints without him. Thank you Drew, THANK you for the memories.

Also from New Orleans. I was in 2nd grade when we got Drew and he is the sole reason I became a true Saints fan. I still don’t think people understand how much he means to our city. He changed the culture here. All I can ask for now, is that he comes back to the Dome when we have full capacity to give him a proper send off. He deserves it, our fans deserve it, and the city deserves it. It’s way more than football when it comes to the Saints/Drew Brees in New Orleans. He will forever be a legend that I will for sure tell my kids, grandkids, and probably just about anyone about. I knew it was coming to an end but I was not emotionally prepared for this

One thing about Drew was that he usually broke meaningful records with TDs at home, so there was no problem for awkward stopping of games for celebrations.
