I met drew brees in 2017 at a beach in southern California. He was driving this super sporty tesla (if memory serves me right). He was totally chill and when my buddy asked if he could shake his hand drew laughed and talked to us for like 5min. He threw the football a few times to each of us then said to not tell anyone else we saw him here cause most people dont recognize him. Drew brees was cool as fuck

I met him a handfull of times in New Orleans while working at a Jimmy John's that he owns while I was in college. He was always awesome and would give everyone working in the store a big tip. I also remember that he took a bunch of teammates to our location straight off the plane from an away game. It was right before we closed and we ran out of lettuce. We told them that and Zach Strief loudly yelled "FUCK LETTUCE". Working at that Jimmy John's gave me some of the best moments of my life and Drew Brees had to do with most of them.

2017-2020 was our best chance to get drew another ring unfortunately we seemed to screw up at the wrong time or have a no call. I honestly believe we could have got one maybe two. They only team I felt was actually better than us and couldn't beat in that time frame were the Chiefs but even then I felt we could have beat the chiefs with some luck and under the right circumstances. It hurt seeing Drew have to go out like that. Mans came back from an injury that should have had him retire then especially at his just to give us a fighting chance. Imo Drew is the G.O.A.T, the underdog who helped one of the worst franchises become a contender and a Super Bowl champion. I hate it when people bring this up because it shows y'all don't know much of what's going on. Only thing we did wrong was get caught first. Get over it. Y'all soft. It's a collision sport and this is what defensive players get paid millions to do. They just didn't like that we had a system that they didn't know about so they exposed us. All the other teams didn't get outed because if people knew everyone was doing it it would be bad for business and people would try to get rid of the league especially because people are so soft nowadays and were starting to turn soft back then. We had to get outed in order to stop a butterfly effect that would have destroyed the league. Smh

Drew Brees is to Tom Brady what Larry Fitzgerald is to Jerry Rice. Yeah we all know who the GOATs are, but in their shadow were two guys who honestly did it the same way. Absolute perfection of the craft, two of the most unbelievable big game performers at their position, and did it over a long career. Stats, durability, you name it. They did everything as GOAT-like as possible, and one ring between the two of them. It almost renders the existence of the Saints and Cardinals as unjustifiable.

@davidroberts7282

At least Drew Brees' has a SB ring. All Larry Fitzgerald has is one NFC title ring (which I doubt HR wears too much), premature, occasional severe arthritis in his hands, feet, fingers, most parts of his body sometimes when he goes on his traveling excursions worldwide (he's even been to Antarctica, too back in 2012 for a SI diary trip). I'd like to believe Fitzgerald wishes he had a SB ring on his finger just like Drew does. Larry's memories of his lone, SB trip in 2008 are bittersweet, to put it politely and agonizing, more bluntly. To score a possible go-ahead TD catch and then be helpless to watch your defense blow it in the last minutes when Big Ben threw a laser, last-second TD to Santonio Holmes on his tippy-toes in the back end zone has to be a recurring nightmare nearly 15 years later.

They were also at the grand opening in the 70s, when the Allman Brothers Band came and played for the Grand Opening. A few years later, I got them a huge framed picture of a still shot from that game. Saints were returning a ball for a touchdown on the play they got the pic of. @@yepdontcarebudthat’s the issue though. No one has done as much as Brees with as little help as he’s had, while destroying his shoulder, being undersized and having maybe average at best arm talent in NFL QB standards. With the stats Brees put up in the situations he was in, he should be firmly in the second best QB of all time argument, but due to his shitty MVP luck (either getting robbed, guys having all time great seasons in years he otherwise would’ve won it, or just having shitty teams holding him back) and bad postseason luck, we get people arguing about him being top 10 all time, much less squarely in the top 5 and arguably top 3 like he should be.

Brees was my team’s QB from the time I was 8 years old to the year after I graduated college. He’ll always be my favorite player and it will always suck that the cards almost never seemed to fall in his favor. And on top of that, he didn’t even get a proper send off in his last home game at the Dome since no fans were allowed during COVID :/ I also hope this video helps other NFL fanbases understand the pure amount of agony us Saints fans have gone through and why we’re so salty all the time lmao

Thank you for this video. I enjoyed it THOROUGHLY. I'm not even a Saints fan -- not a hater, just indifferent -- and I respect the HELL out of this man. The drive and moxie that must have been necessary to prove doubters wrong; working within his physical limitations (short height) and finding ways to circumvent that; coming back from the horrific injury and finding ways to adjust to his new, surgically-repaired arm and the challenges that must have caused; carrying his team time after time after time; showing up in critical moments and rising to the occasion; and so on. If anyone "deserved" more than just 1 SB win, it was Brees.

@@thor3279the dude is 6 foot tall on a good day. The average NFL QB Height wise is a little over 6’3”. He’s short for a QB in the league. 2-3 inches is the difference between seeing your guys helmet over the line and not seeing him at all. It could also be the difference between a ball just making it over a lineman’s hand or just getting tipped/batted down. There’s a reason the prototypical QB is 6’3”-6’5” and 220-235 pounds. Brees is short by 3 inches on the low end of that metric and was anywhere between 10-20 pounds underweight of the low end of the weight metric.

The biggest thing that I always have to stress to people about Drew Brees was just how much he did with how little he had. The year they won that Super Bowl, Drew's no. 1 receiver was a 7th round draft pick out of HOFSTRA who had 0 All-Pro selections (though he had some solidly underrated years, so no shade to Marques Colston), and his no. 1 running back was an undrafted free agent out of Illinois. I say that with no shade to anyone on those teams, but you have to remember just how impressive his career was.

Saints fan since the 70’s. The Drew Brees era was magical. Yet, as you have so accurately and properly portrayed in this video, the Football Gods had not been kind to him since the Super Bowl win in 2010. He only had decent defenses from 2018 till retirement. He was definitely out of gas in that last game against TB 12. The 2020 season was also Micheal Thomases last before becoming permanently injured in the first game against the Bucs that year, a game the Saints dominated and won, the ex-LSU linebacker, Devin White stepped on MT’s ankle on a play in the end zone. Oh and Devin White also ended Jameis Winston’s career as a starter on another cheap shot; yet I digress. Brees’s bad luck with the Saints is a Saints thing. The team has seemed cursed since it’s founding.

Damn until watching this video I never realized how rocky Drews career started off. I was probably too engulfed with my Steelers QB problems of the early 2000's Lol. I was about 16 when we drafted Ben and my life revolved around football already for about 8-10 years, so it's hard looking back and not remembering certain things. By the time Big Ben burst onto the scene and Rivers taking over in San Diego, Dree moving onto New Orleans, I guess Rivers and Drew both having success it just was never as big of a story as it could've been. I honestly don't really even remember the Drew Bree in Diego era. I remember his start with New Orleans though. And he must've been highly respected at that point, bc if he wasn't I would've remembered that. New Orleans was always a team I'd put my money on with Brees at QB.

Non saints fans really cannot understand or fathom how much the defense, and the saints organization's inability to build a defense, tarnished this man's legacy. I say it to everyone I have a debate with about this. You put Drew on the teams and the situations Tom Brady was gifted with for most of his career he would have a relatively equal amount of success. Because he had an equal amount of work ethic and desire to win and arguably more talent because he is undisputedly the most accurate quarterback to ever play. The Saints waited till the very tail end of Drew's career to finally put competent defenses on the field for him when his arm was already shot and he had to become a game manager style player. 2011 in particular it is unforgivable how much his defense let him and that historic offense down.

What also fascinated me is how often the Saints fell into unfortunate circumstances in the Playoff seeding. 2010: Saints go 11-5 but have to go on the road to a 7-9 team because the division winner gets a home Playoff Game. 2011: Saints to 13-3 but end up the 3 seed and still have to play a road divisional game with no bye, because the 49ers won a tiebreaker and the Packers went 15-1. 2013: Saints go 11-5 and end up as the lowest seed thus having to play Seattle in the second round because a 12-4 49ers team was a Wild Card. 2019: Saints go 13-3 and AGAIN get the 3 seed instead of a bye because of an out of this world play by George Kittle. 2020: Get the 2 seed immediately after the second bye is removed and the bracket reseeds thanks to Seattle losing to an injured Rams team so they have to play Tom Brady in the Divisional Round. Same with his missed opportunities for MVP 2009: Peyton Manning puts up a historic season and the Colts go 14-0 before resting their guys. 2010: Tom Brady wins the first unanimous MVP with a 36-4 TD-INT ratio for the 14-2 Patriots. 2011: Aaron Rodgers has arguably the best season of any QB ever going 15-1 with a 122 passer rating (highest all time). 2013: Peyton Manning posts the greatest offensive season in NFL history with 55 TDs and 5477 yards, both records. 2018: Mahomes throws for 50 TDs and 5000 yards, another historic season If Brees’s prime coincided with literally any other era he would’ve had at least one MVP.

Reason why Drew Brees played that last game of the season where he tore his shoulder, was actually because Schottenheimer and the GM disagreed with each other, GM wanted Rivers, Marty was a believer in Brees and wanted to prove it. Which ultimately what led to both of them being gone from the team. (I know Marty was fired after 06’, but it was a 14-2 record season)

The worst thing about those losses to SF in '12 and the Rams in '19 were that those teams went on to choke to easier teams right after. SF had no business losing to a Giants team we destroyed in the regular season, and that Giants team just edged past a Gronk-less weak Patriots team. The Rams looked putrid against a weak Pats team in what was a brutally bad SB. People talk about the Minnesota Miracle and the non-call push-off from Kyle Rudolph, but no one was stopping the Eagles RPO in '18, or the Chiefs offense in 2020.

It’s tortuous in that, with all the work Brees put in to become an all time great, and the work he put in to come back from a shoulder injury that should’ve put him out of the league, he should be firmly in conversations of who is the second greatest QB of all time, not whether he’s even an arguable top 10 one. What QB has suffered the playoff losses like he has? 2004 where his kicker missed a 40 yard FG in OT and they lost on the subsequent drive. 2010 beastquake, 2011 catch lll, 2013 his kicker missing two FGs and Colston ending the game with an illegal forward pass while in FG range. 2017 miracle, 2018 No Call (and one of the worst no calls ever), 2019 OT TD catch (it was a push-off, argue with a wall, but they didn’t play well so I can’t be too mad) then going out in 2020 when he was battered and broken, with no fans to send him off. A QB of his caliber should’ve had 2-4 SBs and 2-3 MVPs. He’s got 1 SB and accolades that are currently only surpassed by Brady due to him playing longer and being in far better situations for much more time.
