The Name for Germany in other languages comes from that Time. For example the Finnish Saksa refers to the Saxe People or the Electorate/Kingdom of Saxony. The spanish Alemania refers to the Alemanni People who lived in the Southwest 1500 Years ago. Polish Niemcy seems to just mean something like foreigner or "the ones who speak a different language" (lit. mute). Deutschland itself means "Land of the People".
