I'm fly fishing a creek in Colorado that is loaded with trout. In 4 hours, I caught nearly 40 browns and a handful of cutthroat! Looking forward to spending more time on this stream.

Drew you record in 4k so leave in the few seconds before the take where you cast so we can track the fly with you and enjoy the full experience. I know I could watch a cast+drift+take all day!! What a lekker stream man!

I believe I did in the long extended video and for sure did in a few on this shorter vid...the brown chasing the hopper down was fun to watch. I also put much more on Facebook right now...often a minute or longer leading up to the take. In the end...some viewers want to see the drift and all the context behind a take...others get bored if there's not enough action. I try my best to make these fun to watch for everyone. Appreciate the insight!

If you’re catching nothing but invasive brown trout, you should be concerned because something is terribly wrong. Where are all the native cutthroat’s? That stream use to be full of them.

welcome to the american west... most native species have been overrun by browns bows and brook trout, but there are restoration waters around. The state fish and game website has info on where to find different species.

That is one of the coolest fishing videos I've seen!! To see your hopper on the surface and then see the trout rise up to bite it was amazing. I've never experienced that before (I'm not a fly fisherman), but have crudely done a little with spinning rod and bobber.... is it called HopperDropper? I'd order a few just to have some. What part of Colorado (my home) was this?

Hopper dropper is the name of a rig set-up. Basically a large floating bug/fly with a small nymph style lure on a short leader tied to the larger one.

Do you have a video showing how you find these spots? Living in Colorado, I’d love to know how to find spots like this so I can stop fishing the same spots as everyone else. People skip over you and jump in the river 50 yards in front of you..:. People are dicks

That's the best part of hopper fishing. Trout become really aggressive and will move right across the stream for a big bug.

Drew, love your channel and your videos show just how much experience you have with finding great streams, fish and adventures. As a somewhat beginner fly fisherman, I’m having a lot of trouble with reading the water especially when it comes to depth. For a lot of your streams you fish, water level seems to be only a few feet deep at some points, what’s your usual judgement on length between your flys on dry dropper rigs? Have a good one!😊

What would you use for the fall season out mid west?
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 11 ай бұрын
Small nymphs and dries. Wd40's, rs2's ,olives, midges and some attractor patterns. I pretty much fish a double nymph rig the rest of the season...attractor such as guide choice HE, frenchie with a small more natural fly dropped as my second fly.

You must be the best trout fisherman in history. No doubt you can catch trout but… I responded to one of your videos and accused you of being selfish about the places you fish. In this video it’s clear that you are not alone as it seems you would have us believe. I already accused you of being selfish about where you fish but you were surprised that I would say that. You basically said you did the work so others, including myself, should do the same. Maybe so but I’m sure you have benefited from the work someone else has done but you say do the work you did. Most descent people like to share everything they know. You responded to my post and said you never didn’t expose or tell where you were fishing. I just watched one of your videos and not once did you say where you were other than saying you were in Colorado. That narrows it down.

Since I already answered your first question about sharing, let me offer you this advice. Your approach is all wrong. You'll open more doors by being friendly. Starting a conversation by calling me selfish is effectively burning the bridge. And I see it as confirmation on why I shouldn't share them. As far as being remote...that's subjective...some places are more remote than others and I've mentioned wanting road side, easier access streams to rest especially when your hiking/fishing everyday for weeks. You need those rest days. It's funny you mentioned that bc a youtuber once called me out for that but the video he used in his example was titled..."you won't belive how big the fish are here...people drive past it everyday and don't know" SMH...does that really sound like I'm always claiming I'm super remote. Have a great day man!

There’s plenty of apps that show exact locations of fish being caught and if you spend enough time researching it’s pretty easy to come across a blog somewhere with gems or even just mark spot on google maps and hike your ass out there to find out. As a rock climber and fisherman this is the way. The best spots are found through grit and luck
