Time for a new net. I have long been worried about the fish hurting themselves on those zip ties.

When i was a kid my brother and fished in Montana all the time, our parents had a business in west Yellowstone and a summer home in Bozeman. He fished more than i did... Being the little sister, i got distracted by pretty rocks. We hung out in bob jacklins fly shop back then. 76, 77 &78. We learned so much those summers, from fishing and fly tying to careing for the cattle we bought, and ate. We both have always felt bad that we couldn't give our kids anything like we got. We each got 2 boys in the kid draw. The ducks are waiting for you to clean your fish. They want dinner

Got my first two trout on fly gear this weak. These videos of yours are like inspiration videos. Funniest part of the catch for me, on both fish, was my reel hand had no idea what to do when the fish hit. I was laughing at myself. Life is good.

Fishing nets are like girlfriends, they get old, 😅 get a new net.😅 sorry about your broken rod,that looks like something that would happen to me. That's why I always take a backup rod, even on day trips. Beautiful country and fish. Enjoyed watching. 👍 😂

Another fantastic stream Drew! Man, nothing ruins a day quicker than than a broken rod. Always good to have a backup rod or two in the trunk. I've been on a first name basis with the good folks a Echo Rods now for some time. I'm fortunate to get two seasons in on a rod without a break. Too much bush whacking I guess.

Sorry about the rod. Nice technical casting in real life conditions with the snags. Idaho may be the "new" Montana for fishing however. Not nearly as many people. For instance, when the Bighorn opened in the 80's there were days where all caught trout were 18-20". Been fishing MT all my life and Idaho is looking good now.
@LooknFishy Жыл бұрын
That's insane!
@dxradioman6351 Жыл бұрын
@@LooknFishy Insane, but true. I kept a Hyde drift boat in Ft. Smith just for floating the Bighorn. Also, and I don't know how it is today, but the Bow river out of Calgary produced some giant fish. Again, sounds like a story, but one day my wife and I caught fish all above 20" with the best 24" on "Bow Buggers". I had tendonitis so bad I couldn't stretch out my hand from casting those streamers all day for a week...but it was fun! Circa mid 80s also.

Great vid as usual Drew and beautiful stream! I love your “crazy-aggressive” cast early in the vid. Like you said “ you’ve got to get the fly to the fish”. If it were an Olympic sport you would have got high marks for degree of difficulty! Love your SF 3 wt! You mentioned a while back you were looking at a possible 2 wt. Any update on that?

Hey Drew, loving your videos! Been trying the ones that will pertain to what I’ll be doing in a few years. We’re heading out west with a built out van and I need to ask you a question. I remember in one of your videos of an app. you mentioned that came of great importance to you while being out in those western states . It told you not only most of the streams , but access and other pertinent info. I tried going back and watching your videos that I thought you mentioned the app in to no avail. So, I’m hoping you can just reply to my comment when you get the time, I’m sure you don’t have much time given , these awesome videos that have my blood flowing for a cutthroat on a fly. I’m from upstate New York. And have beautiful trout but would love to hook and release some of those gorgeous cutties. Are these native Cutts or wild Cutts. Their fins are not that if any stockers. Thanks and hope to chat again. Tightlines !

Hey Drew Flourocarbon or mono for your leader/tippet?
@chuckstranahan5600 Жыл бұрын
Mono all the way, except for special circumstances. Use discretion, and consider: Fluoro has the half-life of atomic waste. Breakoffs with fluoro last forever whereas mono will eventually rot. Even a short chunk of fluoro left in a stream can, say, entrap the foot of a water ouzel pecking away at nymphs underwater. That bird dies, and next year it's another, and another, and another. I gave fluoro a good try and found that it breaks differently than a good grade of copolymer mono, but isn't stronger. I don't use it at all in smaller diameres because of the breakoff/permanent pollution factor. In heavier sizes for streamer use it has some merit, but tends to chafe against rocks and lose fish - whereas Maxima doesn't. I've abandoned fluoro for environmental reasons and now stick to the new Trout Hunter or Rio copolymer tippet and leaders for most dry and nymph trout fishing, and 8# or heavier Maxima for streamers and big nymphs. That combination, suited to the putpose at hand, is better to fish and better for peace of mind than fluoro.
