The 2018 DVD release of the complete series of Fraggle Rock has all 12 discs stacked on a single cheap, flimsy spindle. I took matters into my own hands and ordered two 6-disc Blu-ray cases (DVD cases would have been just a little too tall to fit in the cardboard sleeve) so each disc has its own spindle, and even printed off covers to label the cases. It’s so much more practical than the original packaging.

As a fellow Blu-ray collector, what i usually do to line up the labels (it's not just a you problem, promise) is to open the box up, stand it up like a book, which should cause the thin outer-plastic layer to flex outwards enough to grasp the cover sheet between your thumb and forefinger (grab it by the spine) and line that up, then slowly close it while checking if either side is misaligned, making tiny adjustments as you go. It does get easier as you get the hang of it, and I'm thankful for that, cause almost every new movie or show i get on BR has a slightly misaligned cover lmao drives me crazy

Fun fact!!! In 2018, there was a box set for Breaking Bad released in the UK (and some other places I believe) and it's one of the best box sets ever! There are 3 seperate individual cases, housing seasons 1 + 2, 3 + 4 and 5a and 5b respectfully, with a bonus disc on top! Instead of being housed in those terrible spindles or clunky disc holders, the 2018 set has easy to use disc holders for each individual disc! I've been rewatching Breaking Bad through this set for my third watchthrough of the show, and I've had no issues whatsoever!

The true villain of this video is the maker of these spindle cases. They’re called “Epik Pak” cases and they’ve been infecting physical media releases in the last few years. What’s most frustrating personally is that they’re DVD shaped, meaning they stand up over normal Blu-ray cases, and depending on your shelf configuration, may not even fit. On the other hand, Gravity Falls’s complete series was published by Shout Factory, a company that puts love and care into the artwork and packaging of its releases.

Honestly if I were in your shoes I'd just purchase some generic empty Blu Ray cases (which you can get for quite cheap) and print out the individual season boxart (which you can find online pretty easily) and make my own cases for each season. I have the Breaking Bad set and the cardboard sleeves have a glossy coat, plus Blu-Rays are extremely resistant to scratching already, so I'm pretty sure you don't need to worry about damaging them. Though being paranoid about that kind of stuff I put them in plastic sleeves, which also makes them really easy to take out and put back

In my experience, stacked discs aren't actually touching each other unless you press down on them. Much better than cardboard pocket sleeves. Also, I've never seen anybody use both hands to remove discs from spindles. Thumb pressed into spindle and pull up the edge of disc with first two fingers of the same hand. I have hundreds of DVDs and Blu-rays with all kinds of different cases and have yet to have that not work each one easily. I even have small hands and have never had a problem doing it that way.

You’re not accounting for the fact that pirating websites can get taken down at any point and downloading them has a very real risk of giving your computer viruses, and if you have an anti virus software it often physically won’t let you download suspicious media in the first place. Physical media is actually **yours** forever, you are the only person who actually owns it. You can get a disc binder for like 3 dollars to limit the amount of shelf space you use, and so long as you don’t treat them like shit they probably won’t get scratched and even if they do, you can get a disc cleaner for 8 dollars or cheaper. I feel like spending 10 extra dollars to maintain discs is worth it over potentially ruining my computer or phone downloading speed racer on a suspicious pirating website with titties in the corners.

I understand why people go physical, but I've honestly just lost the space for it, so I just buy what I can from Vudu (now Fandango at Home), and it's been the only place where I've bought a movie that they later made unavailable to purchase but if you already paid for it, you can keep it. So when one random day, I saw Better Call Saul on sale for only $30, I paid for it so fast because I knew physical price would have been a horrible purchase when I'm also trying to buy Breaking Bad and El Camino. I got both shows at a better price than buying one blu ray or even DVD copy. Only issue was that I had to buy El Camino physically, but it takes up so little shelf space that it doesn't matter. Physical copies are something I just have to miss out on because I can accept the loss of something if I've never had it before. If I've had it before, I can't let it go like my copy of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Those DVDs spoiled me as a kid, so I can't get rid of them.

I currently live in Australia and I have bought the Australian copy of better call Saul on Blu-ray and the box set is just a collection of the prior released seasons covers and all just stored in a single cardboard box and best of all each disk has its own spindle to say the least Australia knows what its doing with there box set releases much more than america. p.s great video really enjoyed it as it had mentioned issues that i still face in my own personal collection. Keep it up.

When I saw the case, I immediately got flashbacks to a Doctor Who Set I bought last year, which used the same disc stacking case as this for 3 out of 4 parts of it. Why couldn't they just divide the show up across multiple cases?

This video is incredibly well made. Excellent work. However, I do feel like there was missed opportunity to acknowledge what they seemed to be going for with the box art by skipping over the Season 4 key art during that showcase section.
