I played this game on my C64 1985 finding the game by mistake.Sat watching a pixelated sphere rotating and wondering what to do.Soon picked it up and loved it from the start.Fast forward 2019 and while i was in hospital following a heart attack,i ended up in the world of KZbin..Obsidian Ant and yourself Drew Wagar caught my attention to this old memory of my teens,and got me playing it again all these years later.Drew i must say that had i had a teaher with your presence and attitude to explaining things when at school maybe just maybe i`d of paid more attention.Thankyou for the time and the effort you put into Elite Lore,although my girlfriend probably would not agree....49 years old and flying a space ship hahaha...o7 commander ..Thank you from Commander Sneakydean01...

Well, I have been following ed since it came out, been wanting to play it so badly for all these years, that played the prequels (nes elite, gl frontier elite II, and frontier first encounters d3d) and fan games like oolite and pioneer on my crappy 2004 laptop (aand tried to play them on dos emulators on my phone), read all the major fanfiction out there (including the whole HPA saga and your Oolite stories too), looked at all you lore tour videos, and ObsidianAnt and other youtubers ed videos out there and dreamed about some day being able to hear the "frameship drive charging" voice in my own ship. 5 years later, and within a month, bought a new pc and suddenly, ED is free, and I can at last play it. Yesterday, I finally heard that countdown and jump sound from my own little sidewinder (a tear almost got loose). I have been following you, reading your stories and viewing your videos, all of which have been kind of satisfying my itch for ED. And now I can finally, after so many years of wanting it soo badly, get on my own adventure. Thanks!! (Srry for my crappy english haha)

@@Nabekukka brave commanders needed. I whish Frontier did something similar for ED, like high tier missions that would have a high impact of the galaxy only available to elite ranked commanders. Like a recognition for being an Elite. And the dark wheel using them for their own purposes
@cmdrzdenek-joerg56284 жыл бұрын
I know that feeling, mate. I was following Elite for quite a long time, knew a lot about its mechanics, how stuff was done, but my old PC would have not run it. And then, a few years later, I finally bought a better one and immediately proceeded to get a HOTAS and a copy of Elite. I have been a pilot ever since 3303, spending more than 3600 hours with Elite since. I also became a Fuel Rat a year and a half ago, attended multiple expeditions with the great community, co-wrote a quick guide for beginners I usually share with new pilots after a rescue mission (www.brnocoats.cz/ow2guide ), and I cannot wait for what the next big upgrade brings. Also upgraded the "battle station" en route to a high end gaming PC and those multiple displays are a great help, especially at rescue missions :) Right on, CMDR! o7 and see you in the black

1160 / 5000 Your story brings tears to my eyes. I had this feeling when I, with the VR glasses on, sat in an X Wing in Star Wars Squadrons for the first time and heard the iconic sound of the wings as they unfolded. Ever since I saw Luke fly through the ditch for the first time, I wanted to have that feeling too. As much as it was clear to me that it could never happen in real life, I was so happy when they announced Squadrons with full VR support. For us SciFi freaks this age in which we live is a blessing. We can experience the dream of a space-faring civilization from the sofa. Up close, but without the dangers that all of this would bring in reality. Elite came to me through the back door as an 'I want to take a short look moment'. But this moment led through the tutorial, past the start systems, into my sqaudron. Every launch, every landing, every limpet full of ore, every damn jump is so much fun, because it conveys the deadly vastness of space so darn believable. Soon on foot, see you in the galaxy.

Great introduction! What keeps me playing the game, apart from the community, is the setting - which I think is an excellent work of science fiction in its own right, and I think that being familiar with the classics of the genre - including Stanislaw Lem, Ursula Le Guin and Philip Dick - makes me somewhat qualified to make such a judgement. The quality of the setting can be measured by how believable it is, and I find ED universe to be a believable vision of what human society could be if we spread among the stars. Then there are the aliens - not the "samurai aliens", the "barbarian aliens" or some other human-archetype aliens we find in many space-opera settings. The aliens of Elite Dangerous are THE Aliens - and while still being the antagonists they don't easily fit into a human archetype. They do pose a threat and behave aggressively towards humans, but even their aggression doesn't follow any pattern that we would easily decode, which once again highlights how different ED universe is from the usual stuff. And that being said, and with all respect due to Star Wars, which were somewhat essential as part of my formation as a sci-fi fan, I think that ED universe has the potential to replace the "fairytale in space" (which is what Star Wars essentially is) as the hallmark sci-fi setting. It needs a push - by either a book or a movie - to break into the mainstream. Heck, we could even think of a movie saga, if anyone would be willing to put the money.

I really kick myself knowing this game has been out for years and I only got it a month ago! It might be the perfect game. At least for me. I am a science geek, so the fact they put so much effort into the galaxy is much appreciated. I was blown away the first time I looked at the galaxy map! Very few games have ever made me feel small and insignificant... in a good way! This game did that. All the sights I've dreamt of seeing are now available. Neutron stars, Black holes, white dwarfs, nebula....all there! It's incredible. The lore is absolutely awesome as well. It gives life to a game. It also grounds you in a universe that is so big that it can be overwhelming at times. The sheer size can be daunting and the lore can help give you a beacon so you don't get lost. Don't know what to do? Maybe look for Raxxla! Do some bounty hunting to build you Federation rank and get that Corvette. Done all that? Go fight some Thargoids! Thank you for the work you've done on this story. You are part of something amazing with this story and franchise. I tip my hat to you and everyone involved in this gem of a game!

*MY* advice to new players? Get enough cash to swap in and out of ships, and go unlock all of the engineers. Once you've done that, you'll have participated in every 'career' in the game. At that point you'll know what you like and what you don't, AND you'll be well on your way to customizing ships to perform even better for the careers you decide to participate in.
@paranoidrodent4 жыл бұрын
That said, that's advice I'd give for players after their first couple of weeks of wide-eyed ogling the visuals and learning the basics, when they are ready to progress from their fully tweaked out Cobra (often the first ship a player properly spends time upgrading and a workhorse few skip on their first playthrough).
@rgsmith19664 жыл бұрын
@@paranoidrodent I'll agree... figuring out the very basics while gathering enough cash to start the 'engineer grind' is exactly how new players should start.
