Nepotism is true and exists. there's usually nothing much you can do about it unless the person practicing it has a lower level of influence and authority in the company. If the individual feels that it has caused a bottleneck to his/her career progression, the best way is to grow out of her role externally. Just be professional about it. Deliver what you are supposed to do, and contribute while you are still in the company. If there is a need to lower yourself to succeed in the company, it really does depend on your bottom line. i.e. how low are you willing to go. lol..personally, I would not. E.g. I have seen a C-level executive who had to speak in the tone like a "servant" when speaking with someone (of authority), and had to do her call and bidding..even if it's something ethically wrong.

I work in England and I am a small hotel that has changed since I joined work 10 years ago. Now they have only put friends and family members of the managers, I suffer injustices often and there is a lot of nepotism. Today my manager/boss told me that this is the case here, if I'm not happy I can leave. I was a supervisor and for these people they took away my role because by correcting them I stressed them out. I can't defend myself much, I'm a foreigner here, an Italian. I'm just telling you that I had a nervous breakdown and I'm sick.

The alternative to Nepotism is Meritocracy, not individualism.

I feel like principle #2 centers around empathy, or understanding why someone made a decision. thinking objectively about the situation, rather than emotionally. I don't know if I'm capable of seeing the positives in decisions made by others. Ill just have to understand that not all decisions are made rationally, and thats why society has problems. lol

So being bullied and targeted by a family of 7-8 (secretive about their links) for my position is just a difference in values I need to accept - got it

It's not. Move on. Let them reform the way they believe and let it fail without you.

I answer to the owner of the company. When I put forward ideas like, "hey, we need more hires" or something like that, it falls on deaf ears, no matter how intense. When I go float that idea by the son of the owner, he agrees. We start hiring the week after that conversation. It's frustrating, being put in the back. It was never like that before he arrived. Because I know what I say has the most value. But it becomes difficult having to put forward action, when it seems more subversive. It's not healthy at all. And I suggest anyone in the same position to just move on.

To add to that.. If you are a leader and find your leadership undermined by one who will listen to everything you say, don't lead from the rear. Lead from the front. Find another job.

Its been goin on for awhile and nothing gets done so the other night i put my hand on my bosses sons shoulder and slammed his ass back down to the table and physically threatened him. I have several on my side and the past few nites have been really bad production. whats funny is im looking for another job and can afford to be without one for awhile so its game on. Screw it im done with this reign of terror.

Everyone complains about nepotism until it works in their favor

It doesn't make it less real and nasty! And if it happens to someone who stands to be in favor but who has morals...that person would have empathy and would not put his coworkers in a disadvantage! Companies should prevent nepotism to begin with. There are forms to fill out in large cooperation that each employee must disclose if he/she has any spouse or relatives or someone related working within the department or in any position that would potentially benefit him/her.

Nepotism is a controversial topic. I think Favoritism is more harmful at the workplace in many forms.

NEPOTISM is FAVORITISM whether it be family member's, relative's, friend's, and or favoried individual's including a certain race of people regardless of whether or not they have relevant experience or not...

Can’t do much about it. It’s a part of life. It happens everywhere. It is what it is; it’s the reality.
