Low-key Japanese thing at 10:14. Up until the Backwards-Cap platelet runs off to do her job, 1146 referred to her affectionally as with the "-chan" suffix. The "-chan" suffix is sort of similar to the "y" suffix in "Bobby" and "Teddy" in that it is there mostly to show familiarity and affection. As Backwards-Cap runs off however, he swaps the "-chan" with a "-san" indicating "respect". Most commonly, the "-san" suffix is translated to Mr/Mrs/Ms and can be used to refer to both equals and superiors. The change is meant to show that he thinks of her as his equal thereby (hopefully) giving her the confidence she needs.

I wonder if the 'cute germ' is a reference to molecular mimicry mechanisms of certain parasites. As for the role of immune cells in sites of injury - besides generally being activated and chemotactically drawn there by factors associated with tissue injury, immune cells also have a role in inducing tissue regeneration and repair.

Parasites are generally larger than viruses so i'm pretty sure cells at work would show a parasite as larger but good thought.
@danielguy35813 жыл бұрын
@@rivercrystal2511 Why the comparison to typical virus size, specifically? Parasites exist in various sizes, including single celled bacterial and protozoan ones. The latter are considerably smaller than the host cell in case of intracellular parasites, which should also involve molecular mimicry. The weird tail might be referencing something like Listeria's actin comet. All this is to say Cells at Work is cooler than I had thought and I'm going to begin watching full episodes, not only these reviews.

I believe the backwards cap is a reference to most anime's 'special' characters. Mostly main characters who have a distinguishable trait to 'stick out' and draw notice to them as the main character, or as an important character. Like with our red blood cell and the 'airhead' 'cowlick' hair strand.
@celiaveiga2244 жыл бұрын
Yeah but with the blood cell it was speculated that she is a mutated cell. The cowlick has a similar form to sickle cell anemia, where blood cells have a distinctive shape instead of the circular one. Many people thought that if she was a mutated cell that would explain why she got lost so often. I came to this video to see if the platelet was a mutated cell too, or some explanation of why she was weaker than the other ones, but guess this time it was just for the plot

She was very healthy and spry, but slipped and bonked her head one day. Even though it shouldn't have been a serious brain bleed in another person, in her it ended up being fatal because it didn't clot. A couple of days later she went into the hospital initially with symptoms of a stroke, but it ended up being a fatal hemorrhage.
