As much as cutting down trees is painful, it does provide good forest management practices. It allows sunlight to penetrate the forest floor and allows for better growth for younger trees that would have been suffocated by older/bigger trees. Nice work - it looks wonderful.

"...there is nothing like a good piece of hickory..." High plains Drifter. It is the first thing that comes to my mind when someone says hickory. I make my own tool handles out of hickory. It has a toughness to it but just that right give to cushion each blow for my old shoulders.

Greetings from the BIG SKY of Montana. Dog and a half long and half a dog high = good dog. I'd bet people really looked forward to the hickory nut harvest around there. The thing you're trying to do makes good sense to me.

John, Just a point you may like to consider, if you use the the same material on the main house. I heard you say that staples have no surface area, but I'm about to suggest that before going around those corners, how about stapling a reinforcing strip of Tyvek, just to save any possible tearing later in construction where it will be almost impossible to access. Regards Robin.

I have to add here that I am looking forward to moving from South Alabama up to maybe North Carolina or East Tennessee. That's pretty much mountains & basically the same as where y'all live. My Dad who was 80yrs old (loved watching your channel) passed away last November. My mother & I are planning to move within the next 2 years, if not sooner. The rural life is the best! It's especially great when you don't live so far from some major hub. Then you can live comfortably & get'r dun!

Once you get the siding on, what is holding the house wrap on is kind of a moot point. But when it's all said and done it needs to be built to your satisfaction. Either way good job!

It seems like forever since I watched your progression on the home front builds. You build them right bro ! Those structures will be there 150 yrs from now. I got a suggestion - train one of your daughters to be the camera person to speed up recording. Wife and I really enjoy your family, your channel and the interesting content - love your dogs too ! - Jeb & Reb from Texas

Tyvek doesn't tear easily. Because it is a underlayment, the exposure is temporary and whatever you put over it will hold it in place permanently, so staples will usually work just fine to hold it in place until it is covered. I would only use the more expensive nails it the Tyvek was going to be left exposed for a while.

If that road was in Montana, the only way to travel it would be cross country skis in the winter. I'll bet that's several thousand dollars of lumber you took from that kiln.

The dryness of that wood settles any argument for doing it another way to me. I don't think it is good to see that stuff coming out of the front.

But you ended up taping the window incorrectly. Yes to the tape on the sill before the window is installed. Then on the outside after the install tape the sides and the top only. Do not tape the bottom of the window on the outside becuse you cover the weepholes that allow moisture to escape.

I sure did. Should have watched their video twice. If you noticed, I didn't silicone the bottom, but then I tape over it! 🤦

John, after watching you on the quad, I want to know the stories of what you have done, and could have killed yourself if not for divine intervention. You are knowledgeable, but a bit on the wild side, so I am sure there must be some stories. We were all once city slickers, so we know you have had some close close calls. Let's hear about them?
