How do u know when a papaya is ready to eat? I noticed the papaya u used is green on the outside, but it looked ready to eat when u sliced it. Should I purchase and eat it when its green or should I wait for it to turn yellow?
@Nweisha
@Nweisha 8 жыл бұрын
I hope you don't mind me responding to your question. I love papaya and we had like over 5 different species of papaya growing in our back yard. Green papaya can be eaten and prepared like pickle. Green papaya can be eaten in chicken stew. It's almost like chayote. As the fruit ripens it turns bright yellow/orange. The flesh mostly starts off hard and like white, but when it ripens the flesh becomes soft and turns bright orange. So it really depends how you want to eat it. The papaya shown in this video can still be eaten but will still be slightly hard. It could still be eaten chopped up and put in a salad. Unripe papaya (green skin) will have white seeds. Since we had so many papaya at home, it was crazy when they all turn ripe. We had it as pudding, popsicle, ice cream, muffin, doughnut, cake, face cream, face cleanser, skin whitener, OMG!!! It had so many uses. I mostly ate it as pickle.
@Nweisha
@Nweisha 8 жыл бұрын
They ripen real fast; if left out at room temperature and not refrigerated. The small ones ( like that sold in Hawaii ) are sweeter when ripe. You will know when it's ready because it will change from dark green to yellow/orange. They bruise easily and if there is a slight cut/break on the skin they even ripen faster. Keep it dry and away from moisture. When I let mine ripen on the kitchen counter, I let it sit on something soft like a towel. They bruise really easily.
