I've been wondering how to splice for a while now - cheers for the instructional video Luke! Its surprising it will hold so well with just 2 passes thru without any looping back! Will be looking at one of these tools I reckon 👍

Hey great video Luke! Very informative 👍. Hey quick question, I've done away with any hook or thimble at the end of my winch rope. You said it will weaken the rope without that thimble....but isn't that what happens when you attach a soft shackle? There's no metal thimble in the soft shackle.....? Anyway I bought the Splice kit 👍

Jamie Baumgarten hi jamie, yeah you need to use the synthetic rope spool, on the end of your winch rope, to attach to the F55, or hook... as shown, it’s only a small diameter, and is enough to spread the load and not weaken it.. i think the key in the soft shackle is it being soft : ) and also it’s still a good radius.. from testing, it isn’t a issue when using soft shackles.. : ) will do some vids later at the testing place, is interesting.. : ) L

Why would you have more than one soft shackle? That seems like overkill. You would have 4-5 D shackles, but not soft shackles
@DriftaCamping4WD5 жыл бұрын
Clorox Bleach well if you have 4 or 5 D shackles, and you replace D shackles with soft shackles, wouldn’t you want 4 - 5 of them ?? : ) don’t need D’s anymore, they heavy , far overrated for the job they need to do, and they can be dangerous if used incorrectly.. also more difficult to use.. L
@CloroxBleach-cq7tj5 жыл бұрын
@@DriftaCamping4WD Honestly, I'd rather have the weakest point in a recovery, not be the shackle, as you can get highly rated D shackles. Also, D shackles are way cheaper to purchase than softies. It seems like a bit of a waste of money to spend on soft shackles, which are less durable, and will wear and tear quicker than D shackles.

Clorox Bleach they rated to 40 - 50000 pounds.. they are not a weak point.. : ) they won’t break.. i tested one the other day to 20 T didn’t budge. Lighter, safer, quicker, easier.. weight is a big thing these days, and D’s are just a dead load.. you can tie your own if don’t want to buy them.. : ) L

@@DriftaCamping4WD that extra 2 kgs may just be the deal-breaker.

Neet little tool and not overly expensive but you can do the same with some fencing wire or smooth stick and some electrical tape in a pinch if you are financially challenged.(or just tight)
