Legend of Legaia - any% no slots speedrun PB/WR in

A surprise world record speedrun of Legend of Legaia, and a roughly 31 second improvement over my previous record of 9:17:32 set several months back. After a lot of time loss in Drake Kingdom (cough Viguro cough), I had written off any possibility of a successful PB, but as it was a marathon run (run live during Really Really Long-A-Thon 6), I had to continue with this playthrough to the end.
And after the penultimate boss went immaculately, I was shocked to realize that, no wait, a surprise PB was actually attainable, and then it actually happened. The rare and vaunted WR run set during a major speedrun marathon! I am not sure if that's happened for me before.
In any event, enjoy this speedrun, enjoy Legaia getting utterly broken, and apologies for no timer on screen as it was using a marathon layout for restream. I was keeping time on off-screen splits and can verify that the final time is correct.

Perhaps in the not-too-distant future. The biggest challenge is that my body is no longer 25 and these longer runs are taking more of a toll than they did even three years ago. It sucks, getting older!

The sad thing is that she doesn't even appear in most categories. I think she still makes a brief appearance in NG+ 100% but that's it.

Do AP accrual accessories like zalans crown increase the AP you get from being damaged as well as when you use spirit?

They do. However, on the whole, they are pretty underpowered accessories, and the Mettle Ring sells for a neat 6,000 G. As a result, the only fight where they get used is on Noa against Zeto.

@@roberthampton2629 All physical attacks. That's why Noa will absolutely murder Mushuras, Iotas, and Golem-type enemies with her Tempest Break / Super Tempest. They are all Earth-element, and take extra damage from her physical attacks. It's not too much, only +6.25%, but every bit helps.

Just jumping around to remember parts of the game and was surprised when you said the song for the Songi fight near the end was in 7, you are correct it's in 7/4! Do you play any instruments?

I wasn't sure if it was 7/4 or 7/8 but I could tell it was on a 7 count. I don't play any instruments, but I have some natural aptitude for rhythm and pitch. I like to think that I have *some* natural singing talent, but it's largely subjective if anyone enjoys my voice.

Hey, sorry, still didn't had time to watch the full run, but it seens Delilas Family is a optional fight? I remember the first one with Gala destroying me when I used to play a few years ago.

There's a glitch that we use that allows us to skip the Deliliases, Koru, and the whole Cara & Grantes sequence after reviving the Buma Genesis trees. As a result, those fights get skipped, which is pretty important because they are slow as sin.

Hey I have another suggestion/question: is it possible to increase stats beyond is showed but naturally? For instance: You get early 999 atk with power water and after that keep leveling up until 99 so your attack increases beyond what the status shows.

You could certainly farm power waters from Ironman enemies on Mt Dhini (3% drop, 33% with Bronze Book equipped) and test. I have a file with Vahn 999 ATK but I am not sure if his damage would increase further beyond the 999 shown. Of course, you can use Power/Wonder Elixirs in battle enough times to go to dealing 9999 damage per hit, so, in battle at least, the game does store up to 9999 attack. But I don't know if you can get there without elixir spam, just from farming power waters.

Could you go over your setup to run the game? I've used emulators in the past but always ran into bugs. Tips for a stable setup?

I can't help with that because I play on a PS2 (official hardware) with capture card setup.

what is a Terra bug/glitch? I'm now looking all over the internet and I cant find anything related. I only found water gate skip and to nw ravine. Also, few years ago when I was replaying this game, when you first get Noa, on the world map there are secret cutscenes that will only play if you visit those places while mist is still there when you still cannot go to that place (Zeto's Dungeon for example). Each of these routes had a chest to collect which would later be unobtainable since you will get access to the path and won't trigger a cutscene. But I heard it was possible to bypass when Terra says she is too weak to go further and you should go back, and cross the mist path. Can you confirm this? Thanks :)

You can bypass this, but you have to transfer Incense from a different file by saving & reloading. This is permitted in NG+ categories, but not in this category. However, you can see an analogous use of Incense at 4:23:35 of this run where I use Incense to bypass the barrier and get access to Dohati's Castle without doing any of the Ratayu portion of the game.

In theory, yes. But fishing for 1/16's isn't what I wanted to do. With Earth Jewels equipped, he's not nearly as much of a threat as he is casually.

do you know the trivia that if the enemy (AGI) hit is more than 1/4 of characters max HP, they will fall, also if the HP is below 1/4. CMIIW

I know not what the initialism at the end of your post refers to, but I am aware that inflicting sufficient damage to an enemy, or dealing enough damage to an enemy in a single combo, will knock that character down. It actually is something I mention in the NG+ run, where Tetsu's physicals during the tutorial fight can do 45+ damage and knock Vahn down, costing a bit of time. Not much, mind you, but given the nature of the NG+ run, every fraction of a second can add up.

You are allowee to kill regular monsters with arts but bosses is only with ra seru spells

@@haggenfar That would be a nightmare and I will gladly leave that as an exercise to the viewer. MP restoratives are very expensive and money is quite tight; magic damage scales poorly compared with Arts, and what MP we do have mostly has to be used on healing. Not to mention scumming for Seru absorption. For many reasons, I have no intention to try such a challenge, though I would gladly watch if someone else wanted to give it a go.
