Honestly if Darren made a KZbin channel I would watch the shit out of it lol. Such a knowledgeable guy, I would love to learn more from him.

Lot of great tips from an old pro in this series. Invaluable knowledge. Even just simple stuff like the ARP grease and how to bed the studs. There is so much conflicting info online. I went through it last year rebuilding my little S52 M3 motor. Got to hang out for a bit with the machine shop that did my head and it was such a fun experience.

Great video. Just wondering why you couldn't use the ARP studs for the mains when you went back to standard bearings? I'm in the process of rebuilding a RB25DET NEO for my AWD Stagea. I'm very green at building, your videos help alot.
@brendangrant53653 жыл бұрын
I think I answered my own question by watching the video again. Because the ARP studs might of pulled it down too much.
@DriftSquid3 жыл бұрын
Yeah mate you should get it tunnel bored if changing to ARP mains also. I wouldnt do it unless you are doing that for sure to be honest.
@brendangrant53653 жыл бұрын
@@DriftSquid I kind of screwed up several times ordered the standard H ACL race bearings, but received the HX with extra 0.025 clearance. Fitted them without checking the part number. Then decided to check the clearance with plastic gauge. I got about 0.076 clearance. This was with ARP mains torqued to 60fp (ARP spec). So i'm thinking of ordering 0.025 oversized bearings. To knock the clearance down to around 0.026. My local engineer who decked it, bored it, tested most parts and fixed the head said to buy a Japanese brand rings, I bought NPR. I'm using standard pistons. One ring was too big. So I lost one ring, and broke another trying to get another off. Now I got to wait for genuine Nissan rings to turn up ;) Keep it up mate and thanks for replying!
@nzuncovered18452 жыл бұрын
@@brendangrant5365 Do you mean 0.0076? Because 0.076 is a huge clearance, that is 76 thou. It should be like 0.002 to 0.0026 or a bit over 2 thou clearance depending on your crank journal size?
@brendangrant53652 жыл бұрын
@@nzuncovered1845 Does 0.076mm sound better? In the end I used standard sized bearings and the bearing clearance was acceptable, even though 0.076 is less than the max value. The R33 GTR manual says standard main bearing clearance is 0.02 ~ 0.04mm. With a max value of 0.09mm.

Darren doesn’t use torque plate when he bores the cylinders?
@DriftSquid3 жыл бұрын
Darren didnt do the bore and hone on this. I gotta be honest I have no idea what the footage was actually showing haha. But I do know he had a PrP billet piece there that he will Use to hone RB's on his new machine.

Maybe oil pressure to mains and big end is more important than under the piston... maybe a Q for Darren..? A forged piston can handle alot more than a stock piston so maybe over heating isn't a issue... Shed skid?
