You need to tell everone that you have a rutter that you turn with your feet to steer the boat right and left I know from experiance if you didnt you would be changing the paddle from the right to the left side tayak. The reason you cant is because you cant get to the center of the kayak , its to far away. But you are correct in saying other than that its a build for the money thanks.

At the very start of the video I state I have my rudder down and at 1:47 I talk about how the drill paddle will still overcome the rudder at full deflection. From that it should be obvious that I am using a rudder and I didn't think I would need to explicitly state that. Yes I was in a kayak equipped with a rudder and I had to have it full over to try to counteract the offcenter force of the drill paddle.

These drill paddles are sold out everywhere, unfortunately. People are selling them on eBay for 3x the price. I've decided to just make my own.

About how many rpm does the drill need to turn to propel your boat at 4mph?

@janzencady44704 жыл бұрын
I would keep it turning clockwise but that’s not going to effect what direction the kayak goes. To go backwards you would put the drill in front of your kayak

JOE K I was just testing it but I had it running for about 40 minutes and only used half of the charge in a 4ah battery. They tend to fall off faster in the second half of the charge but I feel confident you can get over an hour of pretty constantly running it.

Cant you just get a small motor?
@Mistwolf16 жыл бұрын
I sure could. But then I would have to make or buy a mount for it then a battery to power it and run all the wiring. I usually paddle and this was just a "lets get it and see how it does" type of thing for me. For short trips its great and it doesn't have to be permanently mounted.

@Mistwolf16 жыл бұрын
Lol yeah I used a cheap one in case I dropped it in the water. It only makes like 3500 rpm on high and doesn't have all that much torque. With a good drill that can double the rpm I imagine you could get some more speed. I have found that one 4ah battery is good for about 2-2.5 miles of pushing my yak fully loaded.

Unless you have a rudder or skeg I really don't have any ideas. I was having to use hard rudder to oppose it making me turn. The best would be to have your thrust on the centerline or as close as you can get.
