1) Aren't you giving the foot-switch your luxury restorative spa-treatment as well? 2) Your videos remind me of the appendix discs of LotR where that guy from Weta talks about all the props and stuff (I mean this in the best way possible!). I think your accent may have something to do with it... 3) Who knew watching someone on the other side of the World restore old machines could be so interesting? Your skill, both at restoration and making videos, is impressive. I hope you keep posting, Geoffrey. 4) Greetings from Norway!
@GeoffreyCroker7 жыл бұрын
1) Nah, it's gone. I will keep the actual foot button for something, just because it's a nice cast button, but otherwise that part of the mechanism is scrap. 2) LOTR. Never seen it.... kidding. 3) I'm really enjoying posting videos and intend to keep things going. Thanks. 4) Love Norway. Great memories of hiking and sleeping in a tent in Andalsnes.

hey geoffrey, you dont need a smaller paintgun, what you need is a pressure regulating valve (cheap on ebay/amazon). looks like where i tried to spraypaint without it at full 8 bar pressure. try to set it to 2.5 bar there, that seems to do the trick just fine... by the way, the valve pays for itself, because you dont need as much paint, because more of it actually lands where you want it and not somewhere in the surroundings
@GeoffreyCroker7 жыл бұрын
Ta. There is a regulator at the compressor end. I was probably spraying the the enamel at about 2 bar at the gun, maybe even a bit less. An in line regulator at the gun is nice though, so you can see exactly what you're getting :)

What uses will you put the finished drill press to Geoff? For instance, I have a large metal sign to put up in a public park (it's a work thing). I need to drill holes in the metal sign before I can attach it to sort of a wire mesh fence structure. I'm probably not going to do it until mid September, but I wouldn't mind some tips. It will be seen regularly by the public and I need to make sure that it can't be taken down by anyone, so obviously I want to make a professional job out of it

Serious question: are you going to apply wax after the paint cures? I thought about that for the lathe I just restored/repainted. Would it help?
@GeoffreyCroker7 жыл бұрын
Depends on the paint. If the paint is still soft when I want to handle the parts, then yes I put some normal car polish on. Makes it slippery so grease and stuff can be wiped off easier. It definitely makes the machine a lot easier to wipe down. In this case I dont think I will. The paint is nice and hard already.
@bryanbrunk11867 жыл бұрын
Just a thought but have you considered a filler primer?
@bryanbrunk11867 жыл бұрын
And seconds later you say filler primer.
@gwolfe12313 жыл бұрын
Would have recommended using a "hammer-tone finish" paint on this project. Hides casting imperfections and just looks better, in my opinion. Great work.

What RAL colour code is that paint?
@planespeaking2 жыл бұрын
I have the exact same drill but without the slow gear. Does anyone know what colour grey this is? Mouse grey? It's not myford grey. Thanks.
@GeoffreyCroker2 жыл бұрын
Take a small part of the machine to a paint supplier and get them to mix paint to match. That's what I do with every machine.
@wavin6126 жыл бұрын
Where do you get your paint Geoffrey?
@GeoffreyCroker6 жыл бұрын
As in specifically...? That's not going to be much help unless you liv in the same town as me. Any industrial/automotive paint supplier will sell ppg and valspar paints.
@wavin6126 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm looking about online for primer and enamel and I can find some options. Need to find an industrial suppler here in Ireland. My drill was grey/blue/egg shell shade that I think it will be had to match. Here's a question, do you need the etch primer? Does body filler not stick to cast as well without it?
@GeoffreyCroker6 жыл бұрын
Take the cleanest part off the drill and take it with you to the paint supplier. They can scan it and mix exactly the right colour for you. No problem, it's very normal. My local city is only the fifth largest in NZ and there are at least three places that do this. Filler will stick to cast iron just fine.
