I ETSed only about 5 months before AC must have enlisted. I signed up in March of 2001. I did not anticipate deploying to war only two years later when I signed that dotted line. Anyone who enlisted after September 11th knew what they were getting themselves into, I would think, but most of my fellow basic trainees were probably just as mentally unprepared for the future as I was. I know I would have taken the training a bit more seriously if I had.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm 57, old and creaky and hella out of shape. But seeing this reminded me that at one point, I was a badass. I completed my basic at Ft. Dix in '84 when females were still kept separated from males in basic. I'm reminded again that I was proud to serve as a soldier and I am in awe of the 40 yr old private and that level of motivation and dedication.

Ft Dix 86 We had a 40 y/o male in basic. However, he was prior service. Don't know much other then he had been in the army around 20 years prior. And was out of shape. What I remember him for was he got in a fight with one of the drill sargents. Dont even know what it was over. But remember him hitting the DS a couple times. While I was standing in line to go to chow hall. DS hit him back as well. I never really though about it until now. Nothing happened to him. He may have been smoked after I went in chow hall. I did basic and AIT with him.

16:32 Is a amazing piece of this video. If I am correct I think its a missed cut from editing and your clicking to your next page of "script" or talk points and info. I just absolutely love how perfect the camera goes out of focus, you fix the hat, hit next page and get right back into it. I love to see snipits of life like this as I find it always reassuring I'm not the only one who does it and also I think it gives a good look behind how much goes into this. Being a videographer and also theater nerd the beauty of your acting, story telling and genuinality of it just makes for one of the best creators out there. Thank for all your hard work and phenomenal breakdowns. Its truly is a inspiration let alone your other achievements!
