Most of my critiques of the movie were quite minor nitpicks that I was easily able to look over while watching the movie, and they remain small nitpicks in retrospect as well. I'm way more pumped about what the movie did well than bummed about what it didn't and that is LEAGUES of improvement over any other garbage the alien franchise has put out in the past couple decades.

For once we got an Alien movie that isn't boring or pretentious. The franchise's lore has already been butchered by Colonial Marines and the two prequels. Yes, the characterization is bland, though Andy's actor gave a good performance imo. I just went in expecting good kills, there are far superior stories in the comics and novels if I wanted that. Some people like Terminator Salvation, although I didn't think it was a good movie, I can see why.

@@thorin4406 “Cinema-sins level nitpickery” The plot is generic and predictable. The characters are cliche and carried by a weak cast, I didn’t even remember the main girl’s name until her final monologue. The only thing we know about Rain is she “dreams” about seeing the sun, and about 10 minutes later she sees her planet’s sun, has an “awe” moment and it is literally never mentioned again. The opening scene was completely unnecessary, just used to setup a potential future film. How anyone could take the “Get away from her, you bitch” scene without rolling their eyes is laughable. The most egregious of many member-berries. The stupid Human-Xeno thing grows from infant to 8ft tall in LITERALLY 2 minutes. The numerous jump scares were INSULTING and ruined the sense of dread, literal dead silence with the music suddenly SCREAMING to achieve cheap shock horror. Anyone with ANY sensitivity to loud noises would find this film unwatchable. But hey, it “isn’t perfection” so I guess these guys are just “haters”.

So let me get the premise straight, a super top priority Weyland/Yutani alien research station is passing over a Weyland/Yutani mining world and the only ones that know about it is a bunch of meddling/thieving teenagers who happen to own a ship? No one else? And it's about to crash into a whatever destroying it in how much time? You'd think the corporate mining facility would have much better sensors to pick up objects in space, let alone one of their own facilities. Especially after all the effort they went to trying to get this thing in the original Alien. Also where did a bunch of broke teens get the ship? How'd they afford a ship? How is this chick allowed to keep a synthetic anyway? Andy is Weyland/Yutani proprietary tech, how the hell is she allowed to have that? On a W/Y mining world? They would definitely want that back. To decommission, or have destroyed at the very least if it is obsolete. There is no way in hell they would allow some skid row teen go around using it to access their systems. Also you can just add another 5-6 years on a contract? Just like that? This is assumed to apply to everyone since they are short workers. There would be riots in the streets if that happened. There would be vandalism, there would be George Floyd levels of protest. So dumb. Also how is all this Nostromo debris still all in one place? Ripley nuked the ship, and it's debris has been spreading out for 20 years. This is not how space works. Does anyone remember the size of that explosion? It was huge! All the debris should be flying in all directions radiating out from the epicenter of the explosion drifting at a constant rate over 20 years. This debris should be millions of miles away from here by now. And no two pieces of debris should be anywhere near another piece after 20 years of constant movement. And to find the actual alien Ripley shot out the god damn air lock? In all that mess spread out, the odds of finding that are literally astronomically low. Like picking every correct lottery number 365 days straight by chance. Actually it's worse than that, it's like picking every lottery number 365 days of each year for like 10 years. It ain't happening. Also how does not-Ash know there was only one survivor of the Nostromo? How does he know it was blown out of the air lock? How do they know any of this? It's not possible to know this. Ripley at the end of Alien sent no messages from that escape ship, she made a report but it had to be a personal log, it wasn't sent to anyone. If it had, then there would be no reason for Ripley to have been drifting in space for 50 odd years. She would have woke herself up in 6 weeks when she reached the frontier and broadcasted more reports for help to get picked up sooner. So if this were the case, then the sequel Aliens couldn't have taken place. Also in Aliens, the WY corporation were acting like everything related to the disappearance of the Nostromo was new information, again this movie contradicts that. There is a multitude of awful, and a plethora of stupid in this defecation projected onto screen. From the tasteless reanimation of a deceased respected actor's corpse to the chatGPT generated script that is an amalgamation of every Alien movie that proceeded it, to the direct theft of whole lines of dialogue stolen from previous movies and reused here. It's pure awful, save your money, and your time. Playing in traffic would be more fun.

@@Utoobzz Well if you haven’t seen them yet, quite a bit of banter and dialogue between the crew was cut and some scenes even had multiple variations. The whole tone shifts tremendously when you see the scenes as they were intended. Many of which were far better than the final version. Like the part with Ripley and Parker busting each others chops and joking around was cut down. It showed that Ripley wasn’t so serious as the final version does and that she had strong verbal Judo, giving as good as she got. In other versions Ripley and the crew smile, banter and joke around more with each other which was really weird that they cut those scenes down. I think it would have contrasted against the bleakness of space and would make the inevitable that much more dark when it happens. Honestly it was more like Brody, Quint and Hooper on the Orca in Jaws had they went that route. Even Ash had a bit more life to him with dry humor with blink and you’ll miss it quips to the others. It would’ve added so much more levity to what we ended up with. The theatrical cut had them all as emotionless wooden planks compared to what was originally intended. The directors cut adds some of that back in thankfully but there was still other scenes that could’ve fleshed it out even more.

Lance asks a question that has been bugging me for decades about why these studios aren’t adapting the ready made back catalog of their IP’s. Especially comics! There doesn’t need to be a storyboard session because what is a comic book than a ready made storyboard with dialogue and everything. Robert Meyer Burnett lamented on one of his Star Trek tirades that the novel that tells how Kirk and Spock met at Starfleet Academy, Collision Course, was much better than Jar Jar’s Star Trek ‘09. They could have adapted that. My guesses are that they either run into the arch-enemy of all IP’s, rights issues, and have to pay out some kind of compensation to the original writer, (It’s not unprecedented. For Enterprise, T’Pol was supposed have been a younger version of the Vulcan high priestess T’Pau. But they’d have to pay the creator of the character a fee to use her), or, despite decades of sophisticated storytelling coming out of comics that have rivaled traditional literature, Hollywood scribes still looks down on writers like Claremont, Frank Miller, Ed Brubaker, and countless others as writers of funny books. It would explain why very few of them have been tagged to write or co-write a screenplay or teleplay.

This movie was made for people too young to have seen the original in theaters when it was released. It was quite an experience. I'm 64 and I watched Alien at the movie theater and I left scared to death and sweating. But now the Alien IP has just turned into bad reruns for younger audiences who have only watched the originals on Streaming or DVD/Blue Ray on their couch with 5 or 6 other people talking trash during the movie. They missed out on them when they were new, original and shown only in the theaters. This latest version is just cheap Saturday night scream queen fare.

I wish I hadn't watched this review before I went to see the movie. The movie was fine. yall are too jaded from Hollywood. Lance is smoking crack - there was no "racism" or "disability" theme with the Robot; they explain exactly why he's malfunctioning and why the other crew member hates robots. You had to have fallen asleep to miss it. The oldest person on the crew couldn't have been more than 25 - they behaved EXACTLY how young adults would behave when in over their head. The most unrealistic part of the movie was wondering why they were allowed to pilot a mining vessel into space. Where are the adults? No one the root for?! The actor playing the android did a good job. Rayne was okay; sure Rayne is no Ripley/Sarah Conner but she wasn't an idiot or Mary Sue either. I agree - she didn't start acting till the latter half of the movie. All in all its a solid 6.5-7 /10 ; the visuals were amazing and the horror delivered. I'm no Alien aficionado - i dont care about timelines i just want to be entertained with a horror/monster flick and the Movie had it. My girl came with and she hates scifi and she loved it.

Just gonna point out in the best two Alien movies, the reason the Alien(s) got a jump on everyone is because characters did stupid stuff. 1st movie, everyone is yelling and pissed at Ripley for trying to keep Quarantine. 2nd movie, Gorman has his squad move in where they can't fire, instead of pulling everyone out and equipping them with flamethrowers before going back in.
@fix0the0spade4 ай бұрын
That's true, but in both cases it's well justified. In Alien Ash is playing the crew off against each other and undermining their unity. In Aliens Gorman's on his first 'real' deployment and none of the Marines are taking the threat seriously enough, Gorman's panicking when he disarms his squad and it brings his inexperience to the fore. They also have Burke putting pressure on Gorman not to damage Wey-U's investment. Once things go sideways both crews start behaving more competently, they make mistakes but they're doing their best within their abilities and knowledge. I find it really jarring when people in horror movies just keep doing stupid things.

I'm not especially looking forward to this, but not letting Ridley Scott anywhere near the creative process is a good start. He did a fine job of bringing the screenwriters' vision to life in the original _Alien,_ but despite what so many people seem to believe, he was NOT the screenwriter (those were Dan O'Bannon and Ron Shusett), did NOT come up with the story, characters, or title creature, and the few ideas he pushed for were rejected for being too silly. It annoyed me to no end when people kept referring to Ridley Scott as the series "creator" when discussing _Prometheus,_ even though his only contribution was getting the real creators' vision onto film.
@yowasup10014 ай бұрын
I've seen it & there is no doubt Ridley & disney meddled with this movie, at least Cameron wrote the script for Aliens & had some input on the score unlike Ridley taking credit for things he never did.

@@yowasup1001 The first 30 minutes, from what I gather of the explanation about "obsolete" androids, sounded exactly to me like what Disney's die agenda requires. Role was probably written just to get the rest of the movie made. Not knocking the actor, he's just doing a job with what he's given.

Aside from the meaningless characters, the biggest problem of Alien Romulus for me is that this film is like a high budget fan-made movie. It milks the elements from previous movies so hard, any alien fan can see just one moment of it and he will immediately know how the plot will be unfolded in the next 15 mins. And the plot depends so much on android tells the audiences what’s happening is so fucking lazy. But I would say it’s not a bad movie. It’s just not good either. They have a planet filled with people that they see as disposable for the greater good of the Xenomorph/black goo. No one got orders to go there and reboot it to make it so it wouldn't collide in 2 days? Nevermind that Mu/Th/Er can just take control of random ships and fly it automatically.
