the most angering part is that mindy kaling talks shit about our society while simultaneously being one of the most privileged people to have ever come up in it. Both her parents have extremely high paying jobs, and she grew up in a two-parent household. she went to an ivy league university and immediately got hired in hollywood upon graduation. She has literally nothing to be so bitter about.

@@bwhere45 Ali was insecure, in between the showboating aimed at demoralizing his opponents and borrowing from professional wrestling and cutting promos to drive up hype. He was a young man trying to find his way while being steered all over the place by people like Elijah Mohammed. The mouthiness may have been a smart way to generate revenue, but there's a good bit of that geared towards Ali trying to prove himself and make an identity away from "who he was." Compare that to Frazier and Foreman (young for the insecurity, old for the wise man he became). Anybody who goes around calling an old friend "gorilla" (among many other things) to push self-promotion has a bit going on.

The most likely explanation is that HBO simply bought two seasons of Velma right off the bat - not uncommon, especially for someone with name recognition like Mindy Kaling. They’ve already paid for it and there are no refunds, so they might as well just make season 2 because even if there’s only a 1% chance it will get good ratings, that’s better than the 0% chance if they just cancelled something they’ve already paid for

For a show that was supposedly so "popular", HBO and Kaling have sure been quiet about it, lol. Neither Kaling or HBO Max has tweeted about the renewal announcement. During s1, HBO Max only mentioned it if a new ep was dropping; meanwhile their page was full of The Last of Us. And Kaling initially celebrated the show... then deleted those tweets, lol. Also, s2 was always planned...so why did the official announcement take so long? @@lqlaliut897 It can be an example of the sunk cost fallacy but not always. Sometimes it's more expensive to not complete the originally agreed number of episodes and air them because of penalty clauses that activate if the studio ends the contract early. If they've already been filmed then it shouldn't be that expensive to air for the network that commissioned it and even in the absence of penalty clauses, the executives behind it might fear the damage to their careers and egos from the negative press if the show is killed early.

Personally, I think it's Parrot Analytics and not the hate watchers that's to blame. That said, I don't buy in the narrative that the hate watching gave it enough views to get a second season. A second season was already confirmed very early on. Likely it was already in mid-production and they already pumped so much money into the marketing of it that they determined this one show was apparently too far in to drop for whatever amount of sunk cost fallacy they had in it. Pair that with Parrot Analytics giving a generalized idea of "demand" to use as a metric of potential growth avenue and there's enough ammunition for whoever is leading the Velma project to give enough bullshit to the studio to keep Velma alive, even if it's viewing numbers are going down. Plus, wasn't the statement that it was the Most Watched Animated Show? As in, Animated, not amongst all shows? And wasn't it basically the only animated show still left alive and running at that time, making that statement a complete nothingburger. Like saying that Gollum is the best Lord of the Ring videogame released in 2023. That sure is true. Because it is the only Lord of the Ring Videogame released in 2023.

Back when Captain Marvel came out, they were more concerned about their stock prices and general confidence in the MCU suddenly dropping. Well, it's way too late to get in front of that problem now, even if they still had the kind of extra money lying around to buy a significant number of their own tickets with. The only reason they're making the sequel at all is to maintain the pretense that the first one made a billion dollars all on its own and "Why _wouldn't_ you make a sequel to a billion-dollar movie?" But they know it's not. They know it cost them so much more to prop that movie up into "the billion-dollar club" that it probably didn't quite break even in reality. I'm sure it made the majority of its money, legitimately (because of its placement between the 2 Avengers movies). I can't see them shelling out half a billion dollars for the sake of some fleeting good press and stockholder confidence. But they added at least 100 million, and probably at most like 300 million, to the tally. What an odd situation to be in. They're already losing massive amounts of money, but they have to throw more of it down the hole just to try and hide the shady shit they were doing a few years back when they were flush. I love it.

Season 2 was announced a few episodes in to the first, making it more likely that they purchased 2 seasons right out the gate based on Kaling's name, rather than the show earning it. This isn't an excuse to hate watch it, though, as doing so could very well earn it a 3rd.

I think they already completed season 2 Since it was a Scooby Doo show likely expected it to go on for many seasons so they ordered 35 episodes or something like that and probably finished season 2 by episode 1’s airing so no matter how bad they still had enough episodes ready for a second season they may as well dump

For all of you asking why, it's a show that did exactly what the creators wanted it to do. Get people talking about it, watch it and people did. Whether or not it was hate-watched, it was watched. Poorly recieved and hated as it was from both critics and audiences, a lot of people still tuned it. It's that simple

Judging by the response and rapid drop off in viewership for the Clone high reboot, which is littered with the same garbage that Velma was, i think HBO or Max or what ever its called now, will learn a very expensive lesson.

I think MCU will transition into character actors. Nathan Fillion is the tone of actor who should be in the MCU. Actor’s who have a range that reaches well into both comedy and drama, but who can seamlessly portray both ends in one character. Because marvel properties generally swing between serious, life or death level drama, and cartoon antics. I’m also one of the people who loves the idea of Danial Radcliffe as wolverine.

That actually happened to another show starring a woman named Mindy: *the Facts of Life.* Season one almost prevented the subsequent eight. After they cut the cast in half, added some new characters to create a more interesting dramatic conflict, and actually put women on the writing staff, it became one of the few sitcoms it on NBC anybody actually watched in the early 1980s, and it was the oldest them-currently running network sitcom by the time it went off the air. I still remember where I was when I heard the news.
