I don't pretend to be an elite athlete, but I am retired from triathlon. I know from that experience that there is a reason they separate athletes first by sex, then by age. That truly levels the playing field. I am 71 & always supported TITLE IX so women who WERE elite would have a fair chance at scholarships and careers. Now the feminists have totally destroyed it. Great to see her speaking out! I've seen people do the stupid defense of, "You didn't care about women's sports before". In the case of women's college swimming, it actually is a big deal, because a lot of these ladies hope to make it to the Olympics. In fact, in the race Thomas "won", the second and third place medalists were both silver medalists in Tokyo (Emma Weyant and Erica Sullivan). And the stupidest thing is that a trans man (Henig) was also on the women's side- so if it's about identity, how does it make sense for both a trans man and trans woman to both swim for the women?

There is a cumulative effect on women's sports that is not being discussed enough. It is terrible for even one male swimmer to rob a female of her rightful place to compete. Thomas, by himself, eliminated 3 women from being able to compete in the finals of the 500, 200, and 100 freestyle events. That doesn't come close to describing the travesty of what will happen if this "XY competing in an XX event in any sport" isn't nipped in the bud. In this NCAA meet, Thomas was able to steal a national championship, then tank in the finals of two other races to be able to claim "See, it is not unfair to let me compete against women; I don't win everything" (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). If it is allowed to continue, pretty soon it won't be just one XY swimmer. It will be three in each race. They will get all the medals. The trend will continue to grow from there. At some point there won't be an XX in the finals of any event in women's sports. We all know what would have happened if Megan Rapinoe had ever tried out for a national team comprised of 16-year-old boys. She wouldn't have even been on the field. Yet now that her career is over, she claims it is fine that XY should be able to compete against XX.

Yes! I watched it live streaming and immediately knew that he pulled off the gas the last 75 so he wouldn't win after crushing the 500 the day before. If you go back and look at his splits it confirms that he purposefully blew the last 100- almost a half second slower per 25 compared to prelims but just on the back half. It was almost like he realized he was going to win again and purposefully slowed down. You could almost see the second that happened. Thank God for women like Riley! I am a former elite swimmer with a 13 yo daughter who swims and I'm afraid there are not enough women like Riley to speak up about this to protect these young girls.
