The best part of finding Shug's youtube channel is all of the great content the worst thing is for many hours I guarantee that nothing productive will get done around the house. Shug! This was amazing! I’m running the ddhammock frontline with the original webbing. Ive kind of gotten used to doing the shoelace knot to hang my hammock. I just installed 8 driplines all about 12” long cowhitched to both straps coming out of the hammock and going on a trip this weekend where there may be some heavy rain! The cordage used is just some white cord like one would find in a hardware store. I am seriously thinking about just picking up the whoopie kit from DD. Seems like that would solve any issues with water coming down the webbing. Thank you again sir and I hope you and yours are all doing well! NQU

That makes sense, but could also just add a drip line on the UQ shock cord before it reaches the quilt? Or will the water somehow get by the drip line because its made of shock chord? Thanks!

Shug, I posted this question on another one of your videos, but maybe the question is more relevant to this video: Can the Marlin spike hitch + toggle be used as a water break? I've read that if you hang the whoopie sling from underneath the toggle, instead of over the top of the toggle as is tradition, then the toggle and hitch will rotate itself such that the toggle can serve as a water break. Have you ever tried this? Does it actually work, or do you need a secondary water break with MSH + toggle?
@shugemery

It would need to be under the tarp. Take free end of whoopee and tie it under tarp to act as a drip line. Sure I show that in this video.

Hello from Sweden. Ty for all the videos and tips... It really helped me a lot. Now after 1,5yrs i finally got my own one :) Does this also work on the standard hammock suspensions like mine from (traveler dd hammock) or i need to upgrade? Just a quick observation, but with your hammock suspension touching on the tarp edge, doesn't the rain run down the hammock suspension straps and then down the underside of the tarp? Would a drip loop fixed where the hammock suspension touches the tarp work?

When I get in the suspension drops down most of the time. Never gotten wet that way as of yet.

@@shugemery 'As of yet' - that sounds optimistic! Only joking Shug. I watched another of your videos afterwards & noticed that the suspension lines clear the tarp ridgeline when you get in. @@shugemery Yes, I tried them the other day & found out that you have to have similar tension on each side (pullout tab) of your tarp or it pulls the whole thing out to one side more than the other which defeats the whole idea of keeping the hammock suspensions between the v's

doesn't actually need to be under the tarp, just close enough ... an inch or two outside the tarp does the job if space is tight... more so on the Ridgeline where there's only a very slight sag and if you're using the two knot backup method, having the first knot outside the tarp slows the water running down the line, so even if it manages to jump your knot or 'biner the flow won't be strong enough to jump the second knot

I knew about driplines on my hammock, BUT! last trip I took my tarp ridge line was slowly wicking water into the middle of my tarp then dripping onto my down bag... about a drop every 5 mins, doesnt seem like an issue but a 10 hour night thats alot of water! I ended up sacrificing my buff and shoved it on the ridgeline to absorb the water for the night. this happen to anyone else?

Same as you would in a tent. Evaluate the situation and do what you need to do to be safest. That could mean hunkering down or bailing. Always check trees around you and look for widow-makers. Check the area for a place to sit out in a dire situation. You are at the mercy of Mother Nature and you wits.

Great Advice.... With my still being a ground squirrel I find myself reminding others to check not only for those widow-makers hanging over head but for the possibility of a whole tree coming down when the bigger storms hit. Falling in the direction the wind is blowing most often. Funny sometimes how safe we feel with that thin layer a material between us and Mother Nature.

It is a tarp I made years ago.

I use my whoopie slings the other way around so the tail stays a constant distance from the end of the hammock under my tarp and doubles as a water break

I have one hammock set like that but am so used to pulling them the other way. Both work!

+shugemery I'm all about multi-use lol you still camp Linville Gorge? I'm in Gastonia and go up there. I'll probably wait until it comes down a little before my next.

Oh ... well I guess that's why I feel more safe when you are painting my tablet display. I'm channeling zona siete! ... So what do you do when a tree too big to hug wanders into Seven and you don't want to stomp the brush pile just to hang out? Is there an art to slinging the cinchstrap without getting all twisted up?
@shugemery
@shugemery 2 жыл бұрын
@@dianabenobo More a game than an art. Lean in tight and sling the strap and hope to catch the end. Or .....lay it over a branch and walk it around. It can be done! Be persistent, focused and hopeful.
