Anyone who loves filmmaking or visuals is going to love this movie. It is incredible how Ajay, who plays the father, although being illiterate, (less educated), watches movies every single night and from that knowledge manages to get away with murder. I had never thought visual memory would have been THIS POWERFUL, until I saw this. It is incredible. Jaby would also get to see Tabu's acting when he sees this one.

But what is the truth is truth- Drishyam(malayalam) that stands the 2nd best IMDB rated movie in India has been remade shot by shot,scene by scene to Hindi. Because malayalam cinema has lack of exposure,doesnt means you can take away the credit. The orginal movie and its performances stand apart. (Now many will say its taken from suspect x.......but the treament and storytelling is entirely indian and orginal). Art deserves credit and appreciation for its due creators. . Now if wars could really happen over art and cinema, we would have been getting good quality cinema and those who wage such such wars will have my respect, but alas politicians arent evolved to use cinema..they can only ab'use' it by calling bans and censor cuts... -from an ardent cinema lover

I know it's a malayalam remake but it's kind of shitty how the Hindi watching audience separates Bollywood from the rest of the regional film industries of India. Maybe Bollywood has a higher budget and reach, but the regional industries of India, especially Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi recently have produced fabulous stuff on par with some really great stuff in the west. And always Malayalam as an industry is insulted and degraded & ignorant folks believe every South Indian movie is about cars flying, hero beating up thousand people and such. And with all due respect, Malayalam Drishyam, the original, was the best and Mohanlal pulled off one of his finest performances.

For example people saying how the malayalam version was the original but in reality its based on a japanese novel. But it is still an original movie. Script is just a part of the movie. If the script is copied, it doesn't make the movie copied. Movie has a lot of other elements. That's what differentiates the original from the rest. The visuals of village, the costumes and the acting of everyone felt so realistic. @Wiser zero I am not a malayali. I watched just 3 malayalam movies Bangalore days, Premam and drushyam, and I was so mesmerised by them.

I dont want to stretch this lets not make it urs and mine . But its all about acting skills story and direction in whatever language you make it . Everyone has an opinion and some people like me think that the Malayalam version is a better depiction of the story and for your information the japanese movie comes from the novel The Devotion of Suspect X . But just to tell you both the stories drishyam and suspect x are based on a murder coverup thats why it looks similar my belief .anyone can write down a script which might be inspired by another story . Yet Malayalam is not my language yet i was impressed by the impact of the acting by mohanlal. If you disagree not a problem your choice . but i was not deciding anything just my notion . so chillax and enjoy the review . why so serious.

All the Malayalis shouting on top of their voices that it's a rip off of a Malayali movie, we get it. Not every single person has to put that in the comments. But you do realize only the people in Kerala speak Malayali but most Indians bar some people can at least understand Hindi? So as the movie was a big hit they remade it in Hindi with full rights, big deal it always happens. So instead of hating on North Indians and Hindi speakers plz think about the fact that due to this movie so many millions around India now know that there's a Malayali version of this which came first. P.S. I'm not North Indian or Hindi speaker, I'm a Bengali (Wanted to say that before the anti Hindi/ North Indian hate comments started pouring in).

Drishyam had been remade into 6 more languages. Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Sinhalese and Chinese. The Chinese remake is called 'Sheep without a Shepherd' and it's the first Indian movie to be remade in Chinese language. The Sinhalese remake is called Dharmayuddhaya.
