Ok, got a new tensioner installed, new belt as well. All OEM parts. Belt still slips.... Any suggestions?

did you do the idler pulleys and install a new belt? maybe the belt is streched?

Curious on symptoms of belt slip? I have on 08 Malibu hybrid with a similar belt tensioner. After about 10-15 minutes, there's a squeal from the engine compartment and the service hybrid light comes on. Is that squeal the belt slipping?

Are you supposed to loosen any of the bolts to help it rotate? Or what Ive been fighting this stupid thing all afternoon. Ive compressed the spring as much as I can but I can't see that it is doing anything. I can loosen the other normal spring tensioner but its not enough. I need about 1 more inch. Thanks!!!

no loosing of any bolts on the tensitoner assembly is necessary.

Carlos Daniel wish I had those skills. Well, ended up hiring a “professional” to do it. He took the whole tensioner off. Not sure how he did. Then told me I needed a new one ($270). So bought the new one then he took three days to look for the “special tool”. When he saw the new tensioner, he said that he didn’t needed the tool because the spring comes pre-compressed. The whole thing is a shit design. The fact that the tool costs more than the tensioner is ridiculous. Now, the wiper motor broke. A plastic bushing. PLASTIC!!!

@@mariorodriguez653 i understand you Mario.... shitty design indeed.... i just started today to do this... i ended up removing the right engine mount (was broken) i compressed the spring but now the spring is in a compressed state.... i removed the spring from the tensioner assembly... and know iam struggling to put the belt in place.... did you see the broken / damaged tensioner? do you still have it? photos maybe? how you knew it was bad? if you have my email is [e-mail] thanks Mario

Carlos Daniel, I don’t think the tensioner was bad. I think the mechanic that was doin the job had me bought a new tensioner, sense these come pre-compressed when they are brand new and there won’t be any need for a tool to compress the spring.

I'm about to find out... I took the bolt right out of the spring on top. . Belt is on, gotta squish that now. Unorthodox, but let's see...
