Southgatehouse in Newport, ky one of the best shows I've ever seen.
@freetickeys9 жыл бұрын
The old Southgate House? The new one, despite being an old church, has terrible acoustics. Ownership has made it better but, not good enough. Seen Patterson, solo, there. Had to stand in the middle, 3/4 of the way back to get a sweet spot that would take the rumble out of the Stripped Down Rumblers show. The old place had some of the best shows I ever seen and the acoustics were pretty good, comparatively. The new one, aesthetically, compares more favorably to the old Jockey Club than the old SH.

freetickeys The old. It's a total shame they changed it.

If u HV never had The pleasure of seeing DBT Drive By Truckers find a great dive bar or little joint in ur neck of the woods and they will come play show u what a great band and great live band they are!! One show and ur hooked!! I quit counting after 50 shows and they don't use set lists !! They go off the crowd!! This is a band that has played so many show's , hardly take breaks HV had Jason isbell, shonna tucker , Jon neff ,at one time or another but this line up of Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley , Brad Morgan 3 of the original members of 18 yrs wt Jay Gonzalez multi instrumentalist and Matt Patton on bass !! Now is the time To see them BC the band is at its best!! If that's possible!! Just Great !!!!! Get all 12 albums

While a talented musician, Jay Gonzalez is no Jason Isbell. Watch old videos of Jason shredding and emoting his songs while playing with the Truckers. He helped keep the razor's edge sharp. Without him, Jon Neff provided some chops but, he's gone, too. Last heard of him with Shonna Tucker's band. The DBT's have turned into the Hood/ Cooley show. Everyone in the band and the fans know that. No longer do 3 or 4 people sing lead. They take turns, now. Still a great band but, just not our classic DBT's. They still draw 300- 400 here. However, Jason, last time through played the Taft Theater to almost 10x as many fans. Just saying....

I've seen Jason playing with dbt when he was 23 yrs old and I've seen every line up of this band and though Jason was great with the band, it's just a different time and Jason's is great, I saw him solo, with john prine , and his first appearance as JI& the 400 unit and he is great no doubt, but a lot of people don't know Jason was asked to leave the band, but one can understand he was young and DBT was everywhere and they all drank a lot and if it was not for Jason playing with pattersons dad first david , he would have never been at the house party where he got to sit in bc someone did not show up!! But besides all that I love both but I can remember a time when I would praise Jason and no one knew who I was talking about so it's great to see him and Dave Cobb making all this great music and DBT live shows are different than they we're when neff was on pedal steel and shonna on bass,, they have changed in every era but I've seen them over 50 plus times and has been great everytime but I can say the same about Jason!! Jay is very talented and no he is not Jason but there not supposed to be!!

They were billed as Booker T. and the DBT's. They also kicked ass with Bettye Lavette in reviving her career. I asked Patterson if they were planning on doing some more of that kind of stuff. He said he wanted to do a project with Tom T. Hall. (The DBT's covered his "Mama Bake A Pie" on "The Fine Print".)

That is a Mandola , part of the mandolin family. They're tuned like a mandolin, just lower in pitch , and usually slightly larger than a mandolin.

A lot of us thought the scene died when Jason left (or was forced out by Cooley). However, it's just not been the case. They are a mellower, more soulful bunch but, no less a great band. Long live the DBT's!
@joemomma8599 жыл бұрын
politicalprincess1 Really? Their best songs are Cooley numbers.
@freetickeys9 жыл бұрын
+Joe Momma Although some DBT fans may agree, I do not. Most of my DBT playlists are heavy on PH songs. We know what Jason has accomplished. PH and his dad created great interest in his solo career with the Rumblers. Cooley, solo, wouldn't make much more than gas money here. Maybe we could get his gramps, Spade, to do a hologram appearance with him and get him to talk about how he killed his wife in front of his kids, his time in prison and how he got to do one more show before he passed. I'd buy a ticket to that!
@flyingator92929 жыл бұрын
+freetickeys Hood decided to create a band just to lure Cooley back into the business, thus the Truckers were born. Now what does that tell ya?
