A testament to how Nick runs his shop shown when he makes a carburetor adjustment in the street, and walks all the way back into the shop to put the screwdriver where it belongs so that it is there next time it is needed. Hey Nick, can you teach my wife how to do that?

My good friend bought a 70 Roadrunner brand new. 383 4 speed. I put headers on it and changed the carb to a dbl pumper. We put 7” slicks on it and opened the headers at the dragstrip. I drove it to a class win that day and he got the trophy. It went 13.87 at 101-102 and was miss firing above about 4500-5000. Points ignition probably the problem or maybe spark plugs. We drove it to the track. I’m sure he still has that trophy from over 50 years ago!

Nice job Nick. This car has got some bottom end. I am restoring my 70 GTX and this makes me want to get it finished even quicker. I love the color and the air grabber. We-O It's torquing now He He. Yeah increase in Compression and camshaft is so important. The grind has to match the port size and velocity of the intake and heads.. They usually increase the lift on both intake and exhaust and that makes torque but also don't go too big on the intake duration but more lift and duration on the exhaust. Anyway, that seemed to work for me. But you increased the compression and raised the valves so more flow.

I owned a 1970 383 Road Runner automatic hardtop with the air grabber, black hood stripe, bucket seats and center console. It also had the stock exhaust. It never sounded like this car. It had a deeper more rumbly less raspy exhaust note. That car would really rip! Never timed it in the 0 to 60 or quarter mile, but it would easily blow past 110 mph in a heartbeat and was still climbing strong above 135 mph. It was not a slow car at all! There were only a couple cars I could not catch, but each one of those had a whole lot more engine than I did. And all 4 of my drum breaks were painted that factory red which looked great behind those magnum 500 chrome mag steel wheels with the brushed stainless trim rings. I did not know the red paint on the brake drums was put on at the factory until decades later. I cherish the memories I have of that car.
