Being in Florida and racing in the summer there are times where we race in extreme conditions. 100% humidity 100F and I have seen 160 surface temps on the asphalt. Hydration is not just important for us it is critical. Here are a couple of my suggestions for extreme heat. Use a thermos/stanley cup for your water and have a way to attach it to your kart stand. Limit your gatorade type drinks to less than half of your water intake, I use more of a 1/5 ratio. I consume 12-20 bottles in a race day. When done with your session reduce your sweating as soon as possible. Get AC or sit in a car if you have to or you will continue to lose water rapidly after the race. Do not go straight to working on your kart.

A great discussion on fatigue. Another thing I've found is relaxing against the seat and pushing against the steering wheel while cornering to keep you there. During competition, it is easy to tense up, start gripping the wheel too hard, and actually pull yourself out of full contact with the seat. By relaxing and pushing, you actually stay better connected with the kart, making it more consistent and predictable which also reduces fatigue.

Absolutely, pushing the wheel is much better than pulling thru the corners. And also loosening grip on the straights when you can

@@kierantr5 ill have to try the lose grip on straights because i keep getting pain through my hands as the weekend goes on

I get tired sim racing after 30min or so (mentally) so this would obviously be a huge thing in the real world. Great video.

Yeah for sure

I'm an Endurance kart driver, our races are between 6 and 24 hours long. Each stint is normally 55 minutes non stop, and I'll do over half each race normally, with the balance between the others (normally 2 other drivers). Once you get used to it, it's actually easy to do.

Wow thats a lot of driving. Rental karts?

i went to the psgka for a double header in 90 degrees Fahrenheit so this definitely helps

@@kierantr5 yeah, really technical, really bumpy, and with that heat it was really difficult

I used to tell myself to "Prost it". Meaning being very deliberate and calm with inputs.

Great video! One bad habit I have is that I death grip the wheel. I grip onto it with 100% force, and I don't realize until my knuckles start hurting, so I gotta work on that 😅

Its definetly pretty common, good luck!

Interesting. I don't really get tired much, but I do struggle a lot with overdriving when the pressure is on.

Have done 3 enduros and last time I drove my Briggs did a bit over a hour ! The 1st was a early spring race and it snowed . My fingers and tender bits did not like me 😂! Working a Enduro is pretty boring compared to a regular race weekend Racing on Sunday and Monday Then working 2 events ! As long as nothing goes wrong get a great spot to watch kart races all day 😊 Poor me !! For real job gets lots of practice for hands eyes and feet working as one ! Drive forklifts and shunt trucks alot slower but it's 8-10 hours a day of focus for 35 years !
